Wireless headset that works?

  • If anyone has a wireless headset (with mic) working for them when playing Sea of Thieves on Steamdeck, will you please post your brand/version so that I can purchase it. I have a very nice Bose headset, but everyone in game either asks me what’s wrong with my mic, or tells me it sounds like I’m in a wind tunnel. This game is near impossible without comms.

I tried a friends headset who plays Sea of Thieves via Xbox, and while his headset works fine over Xbox, it has the same problem as mine going thru Steamdeck. I haven’t found anyone saying they have this same problem over Steamdeck using a wireless headset. I have found users saying there setups work… so please tell me which headset mitigates the noise/what to buy!

  • @batkol7109 One thing to check, is what the steamdeck is using as a 'default microphone' .

Sea of Thieves has no configuration on which mic to use, and under windows uses the default microphone of the system.

If the Steam Deck has an internal mic, that could be why your headset sounds so bad, and why your friends headset sounds no different.

Don't use any headset, just a microphone, and find out if people can hear you, if they can, you have been using the Steam Deck's internal microphone the whole time.

From a reddit post, when I investigated if the Steam Deck has an internal mic:

"The built-in microphone will be unavailable when using the 3.5mm audio plug. Be sure to use headphones with a built-in mic if you want to use voice while listening on 3.5mm audio.
The built-in microphone will still be available while using a Bluetooth audio device."

When you say wireless mic, I assume you mean bluetooth, so yeah, there's a good chance it's using the internal mic.

  • From reddit:

As OP stated: desktop mode > sound icon in bottom left corner > change input to internal mic. Switch back to gaming mode and it should work fine.

do this but in reverse to select your bluetooth mic as the input.

  • Not to get too techie, but put a sponge on your mic if you're getting wind tunnel. Or turn down your fan...
