Erratic megalodon and skeleton ship behavior

  • So to start this off I’ve personally noticed skeleton ships behaving very abnormally as of late.

After they surface, they immediately turn out away from the player ship they spawned on.

If you sail near to a rock or island the skeleton ships will just turn and turn and turn in a circle. It’s very strange behavior.

Now on to the meat of the matter.

Megalodons that don’t ever attack and reports of them despawning.

The following is a Reddit post where the OP and at least two other users reported hearing the special music indicating the shrouded ghost, seeing it and it despawning before they could kill it.

    https://www.reddit.com/r/Seaofthieves/comments/1ax47f5/shrouded_ghost_despawned/

This is massively damaging to the reputation of the game because of how hard the shrouded ghost was/is to find.

I’ve also seen a post or two on the official forum about this exact same issue.

I care about Sea of Thieves a lot even though most of the time I post it’s constructive criticism.

There are many players with thousands of hours playing SoT and 0 shrouded ghost kills. As I said above, this particular case with the shrouded despawning on players is of massive importance.

    Please address this issue asap.

  • yeah this recent patch made them completely passive, wide circle and no attacks. (no reason to think this would be intentional)

The despawns are because the megs spawned on someone else or because they took too long while fighting it/ outside of the territory of the spawn.

I've literally never had a meg despawn for no reason, even at their buggiest and everything I do is built around organic meg hunting as a solo.

It would be nice if they stopped making other people's megs totally uninterested in other ships but it's likely not a bug, more catering to all of the anti-emergent pve feedback, which tends to be the loudest feedback.

Skellies have been pretty buggy since all the different content got added and all the server lag that happens, gets them to be all sorts of silly, that goes back quite a while at this point.

The missed out ghosts that I've seen with video evidence were either people waiting too long (probably trying to bring people onto the crew or creating content) and people missing out on someone else's meg.

If someone doesn't specifically play to kill megs then shrouded spawns are always open to chaotic and inconsistent scenarios. Despawning scenarios (addressed above), pvp scenarios, fleets, sinking, etc. That's how I get the kills on so many while still doing a lot of other stuff. Everything I do in gameplay is built around keeping track of the time and the environment so that I can minimize issues if I do get shrouded. Something can always go wrong or be unlucky, but I'm prepared, which is all any of us can really do.

I’ve never paid too close attention to skelly ships and megs behavior, and I started in season 9, but I’ve felt like skelly ships are driving crazy for at least a couple of months now. They’re constantly pulling off 90 degree angle turns and just turning oddly in general. It doesn’t really bother me, but it is tedious to be constantly turning to match the donut executing skelly ship.

I haven’t really noticed a change in meg behavior but I also usually ignore them. I’ll only stop to fight them if I’m planning on staying in the area. What I WILL say about megs, though, is that I got the shrouded ghost about a week ago after 1300 hours 😎

None of my crew got the shrouded figurehead and we had to submit tickets to resolve that. Rare acknowledged the issue and said it’s being worked. The shrouded ghost died pretty fast and aside from a random visual glitch (that we all saw) it seemed like meg business as usual.

I have had megs despawn, or leash rather, many times though, but usually I don’t care and move on. I’ve always thought they were just “leashing” (gamer word) once I got near something it’s not programmed to be near, or whatever.

  • The skelly behavior is a strategy shift. They spawn the same, but try to put more distance between themselves amd players to make it harder to hit them. Becoming more difficult without changing the difficulty imo lol. That being said

    you can't park there...
