Most of the time i spend on google. Grindy, boring, insanely long and confusing, does anyone LIKE these? Very cinematic, very cool but gameplay? MAN. Would be way better if they told you what to do JUST A TINY BIT, again im using google for most of these tales or else i wouldn't beat them. I'm on the internet googling what to do more than im playing the tale.
Does anyone actually LIKE tall tales?
Back in the day, YES
Because it expanded the Story of the Sea of Thieves world. If you wanted to know a npc story, you had to do the TT
Grindy? Sure but what part of it is Grindy?
Boring? Depends on the person. Myself love the Rose storyline (sad and broke me a little)
Insanely Long: again depends. Some people found ways to speed past few segments. Besides...Its a "Tale" not a campfire story. It gonna be long.
Confusing, not sure how since everything is spelled out for you.So yes, Some do and some dont. They are good when done right. Besides the two TT that are more crossover stories. The original tall tales are golden. (hehe)
tall tales are great with a crew that is pleasant to be around.
Tall tales are fun or not fun depending on the approach.
another person or a crew of fun people to be around? super fun
solo for people that are pleasant as a solo? pretty darn fun
Like anything else in this game, bad attitudes, impatience, rushing, unpleasantness, unreasonable expectations, and it's not fun.
Do a tall tale with someone that oohs and aahs about the content rather than talks about broken game and a bunch of criticism and it's an entirely different experience. I used to do tall tales with people from open crew quite a bit just to be around inexperienced people that enjoy the game lol. I prefer my own adventures but I love when people love stuff.
@ferroushornet01 tall tales 1 - 9 have everything to do with Sea of Thieves. You learn about the pirate lord and his crew, the crew of the morning star, Captain Briggsy, the ferryman, the gold hoarder, George and Rose, Sudds, the ancients, the shroud and how the shroud breaker works and how Grace used it to discover the roar, stitcher Jim and then you have The Seabound Soul and Heart of Fire that focuses on Pendragon and Flameheart…
There’s tons of lore in the Tall Tales.
@ferroushornet01 you have the Shores of Gold Tall Tales (books can be found at different outposts, but the first one is at all outposts next to the mysterious stranger)
Then you have the 2 Flameheart ones. After that you have the Pirates of the Caribbean and Monkey Island tales which aren’t really to do with the main Sea of Thieves story, but are still part of it in some way.
@ferroushornet01 Tall Tales expand the lore in SOT and some have cameos from franchises that are near and dear to the pirate fanbase.
Tall Tales are among the very best things in Sea of Thieves. Especially the first nine, as others are saying.

Sounds like this post was triggered by frustration with the puzzles. Often times they may seem cryptic at first, but here's the trick: whenever it looks more difficult than it should be, you're probably not thinking about it the right way. Every solution is clearly telegraphed. If whatever you're trying feels contrived, it's because it probably is. The moment you start thinking about it in ways that feel natural, you figure out the solution sooner than later.
I found the majority of Tales to be really well designed. And I appreciate the way in which puzzles rotate the next time you try them. I've played through all story arcs several times with different friends and every time it was a new, fun experience.
For me, the first 9 tall tales were amazing to do the first time or two. Having to do them 5 times to get all the commendations? Too much of a grind. The Ashen Tall Tales, again I liked them a lot. The Pirates Life TTs were disappointing because of how buggy they were the first week, but they were good once the bugs were ironed out.
These new tall tales? Completely ridiculous cash grab. Plus, the amount of time they probably spent on them angered me quite a bit as I was playing them. Time that could have been spent on the main game, making it stable, fixing hit reg, etc.
Yes.
Obviously they aren't going to be fun if you are just googling the answers, then its just a list of go here go there. Its like complaining that a puzzle is super easy and boring because you googled all the answers. You say they don't tell you want to do. Yeah, that's the point. If it just gave you all the answers you wouldn't have to figure anything out yourself. That's the fun part.
@ferroushornet01 I love the Tall Tales yea the OG 9 TT ate a bit grindy if you want the 100% but as for great stories their awesome you only need to run them once
@burnbacon They are the only thing I would do in the game if there were enough of them.
I think you are missing the point of them if all you want to do is look things up to get them out of the way.
@tala-diere If i wanted to play a puzzle game i would go out and buy one. I would buy call of the sea but i don't wanna.

I appreciate their existence, and admittedly my approach to tall tales is simply to get the gold curse. I’ve completed 5 of the 9 and it’s been tedious. Had I approached tall tales for reasons other than a grind I might see them differently. I will say that after YouTubing through them 5 completions each, I do have a good understanding of each story in the end, even though I wasn’t really trying to pay attention.
One day I’ll have the gold curse and might do a tall tale for reasons other than grind, and my opinion might change. I played the first Monkey Island in the 90’s as a kid, and while I could never return to those games because of their outdated ways, I’d be curious to see SoT’s twist on them.
In my opinion, tall tales are very fun when you do them with other people. I did the first 11 with family members, and it was amazing. We never used the guides unless we were really stumped, we had to get creative when other crews came after us, and we had never read any of the Sea of Thieves lore before doing them, so the stories were completely new to us. Doing those tall tales resulted in some of the best experiences I have had in Sea of Thieves.

You did.
It's called Sea of Thieves.

Just to be clear, you are complaining about Sea of Thieves content that is handcrafted by the developers of Sea of Thieves, which you presumably bought.
There are three story lines brought in TT form.
Shores of gold: 9 Tall tales
A pirates life: 5 Tall tales
Monkey island: 3 Tall talesSo there are 17 tall tales.
And all 3 story lines have an inpact on the sea of thieves world and lore.
Then you complain about not wanting to play puzzle games… well in that case dont play the tall tales, that is the great thing about a sandbox game like Sea of thieves it is all optional
I have done them all and still play them. Mostly with those who have not played them and see them struggle with it. XD
Not all of them are perfect. The maiden voyage could be a little better. It's still a great cinematic introduction none the less.
The first 9 are a classic. Doing them 5 times is a little tedious, but I understand why they did that. Some are a little harder to understand. Mostly the 3rd one and stars of a thief.
The ashen age TT are also very nice, a bit smaller, and wish there were more, but they are nice.
The PL one's are all awesome, I played them so many times and still enjoy every single moment.
I don't know about others, but I love the monkey island TT. I never played Monkey Island, but man, these 3 are amazing. The first one is a nice short introduction, the 2nd expands on that, and the 3rd is just a great finale.
Hope they can make more soon!
Ahoy @captjackbull !
