So I tucked on a guy and stole his Athena and row boated to the near by island and buried the treasure cause he was out looking for me. I mermed back to my boat and he rode by asking if I seen anyone and I played stupid. Was about to leave and go grab it to go sell it but out of no where it disappears from my inventory and must have appeared in his. We both raced to get it first but unfortunately I got outplayed. I’m wondering why it left my inventory and went into his. Any help would be awesome so I know it won’t happen again.

When you say you raced to the dig spot, did you see them dig it up? Potentially someone got lucky and stepped on your dig spot...Probably just situational awareness.

I've been involved in a lot of this lately because I am doing all 90 of my cofs this season as I waited for it to possibly be added to the fleet.
I hide them, they hide them, in the fights where it ends like that.
When someone has a lot of these encounters over the years or just is just good at guessing or just lucky, it happens.
Wanders around looking for disturbed ground and the all telling thunk thunk when you step on it 😂
Too true. It's really not all that hard to discern where people buried treasure just by the disturbed ground, even without the difference in sounds of your footsteps.
My favorite place to troll bury loot is either Wanda's lab on Wanderer's Refuge, since there are not that many people even aware of it's existence, or on Sea Dog's Tavern. There are only, like, two dig spots on the whole of the island since it's almost entirely rock. There's that tiny little bit of beach 'round the back where one of the Hoarder's Hunt digs was last year, and there's a wee bit of dirt just off the right of the stairs on the first landing where a bush is growing. You can hop the handrail and bury things there in sight of the Hideout. Used to hide Reaper's Bounties there and wait when the Hideout was occupied by other crews. Trollololol.
