Safer Seas is almost perfect, but you went a little too far with the restrictions.

  • So I've been trying out Safer Seas over the past few days just to get an idea of what the experience for a new player would be like and I have to say it's absolutely HORRIBLE.

Rare definitely went TOO FAR with the restrictions they put on Safer Seas.

Leveling up the main 3 factions (Merchant, Order Of Souls, & Gold Hoarder) without an emissary is already HORRIBLY long and awful, but to only earn 30% of the gold and rep you'd earn WITHOUT AN EMISSARY is absolutely HORRIBLE!

Rare needs to definitely change this by either allowing emissaries in Safer Seas (which obviously has pros and cons because it would definitely be helpful to teach new players how emissaries work in Sea Of Thieves and it would only allow them to make roughly 75% of the gold & rep that you can make in high seas without even running an emissary, but it would also allow players to earn all of the emissary rewards in Safer Seas which is the only real con imo) or to increase the amount of gold & rep earned in Safer Seas to 75% to allow players to actually be able to earn enough gold to actually buy cosmetics and not feel like the game is so restrictive that it's not even worth playing.

The other main problem with Safer Seas in my opinion is that you can only reach level 40 in each of the main factions. Rare how the actual heck did you manage to mess this up!

Only allowing players to reach level 40 means that they're not going to become pirate legend and they're not going to be able to unlock the ability to do any pirate legend activities. THAT'S A PROBLEM!

If you changed the max level for each faction in Safer Seas to level 50 then new players would play until they become a pirate legend and then they'd be like "YO what's this cool new pirate legend stuff? There's a whole new faction I didn't know existed called Athena? I wanna do these new Athena voyages and activities! Oh they're only available in high seas? Well I guess I'm gonna go to high seas then so I can try out all of these amazing cool new voyages that I've just unlocked access to!" Literally this is how it should be and I truly don't understand how you thought it would make sense to not allow players to become a pirate legend in Safer Seas to then motivate them to switch over to High Seas.

So those are the main 2 things I think should be changed to make Safer Seas an actual good experience for new players and allow them to actually learn all of the main game mechanics before jumping into High Seas.

So Rare just to quickly sum things up for you.

    1. Increase the maximum level that can be earned in each of the main 3 factions (Merchant, Order Of Souls, & Gold Hoarder) in Safer Seas to level 50 so that new players can reach and unlock pirate legend in Safer Seas, but then have to move over to High Seas to actually be able to do any of the new voyages and activities they've unlocked by reaching Pirate Legend.

    2. Either allow Emissaries to be used in Safer Seas (which would help new players out a lot by teaching them how emissaries work and what they do) but don't allow them to earn any emissary ledger rewards in Safer Seas, or just increase the amount of gold & rep earned while playing Safer Seas to 75% of what is earned in High Seas so that new players don't immediately become unmotivated to play the game by the ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS grind it would take to unlock even a single set of the cheapest cosmetics in the game in Safer Seas! It's absolutely absurd how much time it would take to earn even 100,000 gold in Safer Seas which isn't even remotely enough money to buy all of just the cheap regular bilge rat cosmetics (that includes all clothing, weapon, equipment, & ship cosmetics)!

So those are the main changes that I think would make Safer Seas a truly GOOD experience for new players and would actually help them learn how to play Sea Of Thieves and prepare them for the PvPvE experience that they will get in High Seas.

  • People that are trying to cheese safer seas beyond the current fair restrictions should just use the current season 11 features. They can work great for people that want high seas gold with minimal encounters.

Even has roar diving which is huge for that.

  • Wanna boost faster? Try High Seas. Trust me it’s 70% better :p

Again we are here with someone who misunderstands the full purpose of Safer Seas.

It’s in no way for you to grind up the ranks in your….safe space.

  • The restrictions are just fine and without emissary is intended to be the default for high seas. With emissary is supposed to be an even greater risk than sailing without one.

Rare did not design or intend safer seas to be a mode that people stick to exclusively and in their own words designed it as an extended tutorial or place to relax. They did not want it to be a place that you can gain rep or make money, and it definitely should not be, and if you want to reach legend you should have to put a little risk into it. Cant say there is much thats legendary about making money with pure gains and little to no risk at all.

  • @m1ke-da-1ke Sounds like you found reasons to play in higher seas. Seems to be working just fine

  • @m1ke-da-1ke

Safer sea is like a demo of what the real game is. You're not supoosed to stay there eternally

  • @littlematjab

I agree, safer seas is just an advanced tutorial, it is something to do so you can practice with NPCs so that when you do high seas, you have a better understanding about the game and how it functions.

  • I'm going to ramble, but it doesn't matter.
Safers Seas isn't just an advanced tutorial. It's more than that.
And to answer the initial message. No. Everything has been done to encourage players to go to the High Seas. Emissaries are out of the question. And there's nothing more to learn except that you earn more gold and reputation. So not necessary.
Getting 100k in Safers Seas is quite possible in a very large game session by only doing the world events. I've tested them all. It just takes a long time to sell. (+2h)

  • So you want to reach pirate legend in a next to zero risk environment?
They didn't mess it up, very intentional.

  • That's a lot to read, I didn't most people didn't. its like safer seas its there but nobody really bothers, which is good.
Safer seas is intended for people just starting the game or people who want to spend time with friends or family members, not about progression as such just learning the core game.
if safer seas had more of a boost it would just be like taking most players away to just go farm a server.
hourglass would be empty you would be in queue for hours, might be lucky and get a fast queue and find the people youre against are those that paid for premium

  • @m1ke-da-1ke It's perfectly fine how it is. Safer seas is made to get to grips with the game. Not to make gold in a safe environment. Either you play Safer seas cause you want to sail around and do voyages without the risk to get attacked. Or you want to make gold so you play High Seas. If gold is what you want, you have to play High seas and accept there is risk to it. You can't have both the PvE environment and making gold at the same time. Safer seas isn't made so you can grind gold and rep in peace, it's made to get to grips with the game and mechanics/physics. And about being able to reach Pirate Legend in Safer seas: Hell no. Pirate legend is a status for players who have been playing the game for a while and usually it means the player is fairly good at handling himself and pvp situations, i agree that lately more and more people are PL who aren't that good at the game, but still it's meant for people who are experienced, not for people who cheesed it in Safer seas. So we come to the conclusion that: No, they're not going to boost gold and rep in safer seas, and no they're not going to remove the limits to it, because it's perfectly fine the way it is. You want gold, rep or reaching Pirate Legend status? Play High seas.

  • @m1ke-da-1ke I refer you to one of the previous answers on this subject:

The game design and intent for Sea of Thieves is a shared world adventure, and it always will be. Those who wish to play in the confines of Safer Seas will always have the option but we will not bring the rewards and activities in line with those of High Seas when many of the restrictions are in place due to the risk vs reward factor that is inherent in Sea of Thieves - removing any risk means rewards must be balanced accordingly.

Safer Seas will act not only as a safe space for our Tall Tale players but also for families with children who just want to pirate, for people who want to play the game but learn the ropes and it will organically feed into Adventure mode, keeping the player pool there healthy and upskilled as they've learned the mechanics.

This is not only useful for new players but families, players with accessibility needs - the whole game suddenly become available in a way it hasn't before, letting them naturally progress to High Seas and being a Pirate Legend. SoT has grown a huge amount in 5 years and it can be fairly overwhelming.

The borders put in Safer Seas mean that to experience the full depth and breadth of the game you will have to hit the high seas BUT if you're playing with your family you don't have to, you can just enjoy the game and have fun as a family.

  • @m1ke-da-1ke earn more gold&rep doesn't help you get ready for high seas the main point is for you to learn the basics like dealing with pve based enemies on the shores or ship to ship battles like skeleton ship sure players are far more unpredictable than than the NPCs but you get the basics having anywhere close to the same gold&Rep gain as you get in high seas would only encourage players to stay in safer seas which opposite of its purpose

  • The answer is the same as it has been for the last month and a half. More gold, emissaries, captained ships, athena's fortune...... you can go to high seas for all of these things, as Rare intended.
