new servers

  • I think it's time RARE did something with these potato servers. I truly believe it's time to leave last gen in the dust, make all future content and updates for PC and current gen only and get on some better servers. We all know last gen is what's truly holding this game back considering the xbox one can only handle so much. it's time to dump it and put it to rest.

  • Talk to Microsoft.
I think Rare might feel the same way but as long the boss keeps paying them to make it for “all consoles” owned by MC (including One) which is still supported machine.

    They won’t abandon it

  • Baring a specific console gen from playing the game wont improve server quality or allow them to use better servers. The servers are really horrible and have a lot of issues, but old gen consoles have no part to play in that, the deal rare has with microsoft to use specific servers that are infamously low quality is the issue.

  • @goldsmen Oh were not barring a console gen from playing the game, just preventing them from gaining any more updates to the game. The game is in a good state for them to end support for xbox one and if those players want further updates (other than basic maintenance) they will need to get an xbox series x/s or PC. It's difficult for them to consistently add more and more to the game, or even expand the map, because the old gen consoles can only handle so much. the xbox one cannot handle a larger map which is probably 1 reason why they won't do it.

  • People don't realize, but it's awfull on old-gen. Do you know why I bought a Series X two years ago? To play Sea of Thieves :). Overwatch wasn't an issue. COD either. Resident Evil? Battlefield 4? Battlefront 2? Not at all. But Sea of Thieves on Xbox One, omg... I still have nightmares about texture bugs and items not loading in barrels and inventory. All of this at 20fps. Unplayable. I wouldn't even recommend someone to play SOT if they have a Xbox One even if its the S or X version

  • Servers don't care if you are playing SoT on an Xbox One, a $30k PC or a smart fridge.

  • @littlematjab I agree whole-heartedly! Bought my Xbox S a few years ago solely for SoT. The 15+ minute load time just to get into the game was atrocious. Also if you died in PvP, you were almost guaranteed to sink due to the 5 minute black screen return from the ferry. The transition to new gen was literally playing a different game. Less than a minute to get into the tavern from the starting screen, and seconds from the ferry/mermaids. I honestly commend those that play on the Xbox One still. They have more patience than I thought humanly possible 🤣

    Repeat until people "get" it.

On Xbox X I rarely see "server problems" that people on other clients see.

Which tells use "server problems" are really "client problems".

In before "I have an awesome gaming PC" because Windoze can consume and waste unlimited computing power. I had someone who was complaining about performance and when I looked at his system he had dozens of browser windows open 🤣

  • The server issues have nothing to do with the old console generation, Xbox One players already suffer from the obsolescence of their machine with loading screens and 30 FPS, but they don't affect the server, in fact, I think they are the best in sync with the servers themselves as their refresh rate (30Hz/30FPS) is closer to the server than ours at 60 or 120 frames.

The problems are due to the miserable tickrate of the servers, which register with a lot of luck half of the information that is sent to them.

I'll say it again and again, WoW in 2005 had a larger open world, dealt with maths just like the SoT servers (Parry, Miss, Dodge, Crit chance, Crushing Blows...) and never had any problems even at their maximum capacity of 3,000 players per server.

I am unable to understand how with 14/15 players, we experience such pitiful performance.

  • @burnbacon At this point I think it's impossible to know who it is that wants to keep supporting the Xbox One's.

Microsoft released Starfield so clearly supporting the One generation isn't a steadfast rule for the company, which leads me to believe it's Rare not wanting to "divide the player base" or something.

But even Rare knows that the experience could be improved if they could target higher minimum specs.

Did you just ignore the mod stating that the server quality is not because of consoles?

But still doing that will change absolutely nothing about the quality or stability of the servers. If an xbox 1 is playing on your server, it wont affect you or the server, rather the other way around, the state of the server will affect them worse.

Its a server issue, not a gen issue. Barring old gen to older versions will change nothing about the server state ever.

Im just imagining him being like "I dont understand what the issue is! Why is my $20k pc so slow?!" and he just has every website with all of the ads open on chrome!

I know its a bit of a meme at this point but that man needs opera gx if hes doing that!

  • @guildar9194 My apologies, I didn't realize the forum's mods were briefed on all of the technical details (and limitations) of the game! That's cool that the dev team and mods work in such close conjunction.
