Loot nerfed into the ground?

  • Ahoy!

So I'm in the early stages of testing out the new update. I figured I'd try an Athena Sea fort raid.

Gotta admit, super underwhelming. I understand balancing, but now that Athena can go to 100(x5) you guys can do better than 3 pieces of loot.

Minimum 10 pieces of treasure, even if they are low value is better.

No harm tossing in some miscellaneous treasure opposed to NO additional treasure either.

After looking through the form briefly it seems most voyages and loot has been significantly reduced.

As someone who WAS max level this is super discouraging, and I hope Rare addresses this quickly.

  • Loot inflation looked to be getting a bit nuts. To the point where you needed sovereigns just so people could hoover up everything off the decks of their ships with a harpoon.

If they did reduce the amount of loot people find it’s a good thing as that will make getting loot more rewarding and meaningful in the end.

  • What is the point of wasting resources on a ship with 5 pieces of loot? Seems like this update encourages non PvP environment.

  • @mrestiercol many people seem to like sinking lootless ships that have spawned at an outpost. From playing today it seems the faction specific world events pose less of a risk from what I've seen so far because you are raiding an empty event. Seems fair that the loot pile is less if its less of a risk to complete it.

Well tbh they did say in an interview that they realize the game is mostly played by casuals rather than people who want a serious competition so I imagine the game is going to be developed for casuals from now on.

Depends on the value of those 5 items compared to a dozen trinkets worth a few honderd each, wouldn't it ?

  • @yoshometsu Did you sell the loot yet? I noticed that the values went way up and the number of items when down.

  • @foambreaker No! Clearly MOAR LOOT IZ BETTA!

Don’t give me 2 pieces worth 1000g each! Give me 20 pieces worth 100g each! That way I get more loot! (Sarcasm btw) Totally agree with you.

  • @yoshometsu

Was there any Hidden Treasures or did the nerf make the Master Burglar commendation unachievable?

  • @softwarengineer no hidden treasure or loot in top storeroom for raid sea forts.

Doing normal sea forts still seems like a better option. Haven’t tested to compare them 1 to 1, and you obviously don’t get Athena loot from normal sea forts. But from the two sea forts I did do so far, diving didn’t seem to be the way to go for that specific event.

  • @yoshometsu so you are only just testing it now... I wonder where you could have done that and provided feedback.

    Eliza!

    I know they do.

  • I don't think so Lad. Ye see, I have tried the Gold Hoarder Raid on Spanish Fortress and have recieved only III Chests. II Sailor's Chests & I Treasury Chest with 2 new pieces of Loot and 1 Old One. All this got me to Tier II Emissary and I have earned 10k for 10-15 mins of gameplay. I dont know ho much ye can get from Spanish Fortress right now, but with raid it is quite alot. Especially for 10-15 mins of gameplay.

  • I think that the sea fort thing is a bug, especially seeing that no loot at all spawns in the top floor treasure room even though you can find the key still. But yeah, low tier stray loot would be nice with even just a little decent loot when it comes to all ghost fort raids. Something is a bit off with them.

  • @foambreaker

Yes it was roughly 5k worth with a level 2 emissary. So maybe grade 5 it might be good? But needing to dive Everytime to get an Athena version seems so tedious.

    Back to veils, again...I guess?🤷‍♂️

  • @softwarengineer

Zero hidden treasure. Only bags of gold. I checked the entire fort.

  • @captain-coel

I do not have that much time, and if this was common knowledge for insiders I find it crazy that it wasn't addressed already.

  • @selgewick

Sure but not for Athena. Athena was only 5k for 3 items.

It's fine if it's balanced for Athena, but it should have additional loot for other factions then to make it worth the time.

  • @foambreaker No, the only values that went up is the new loot. The loot that was already in game seems to give the same amount or less. And gives less rep. I had to do 7(!) OOS ghost ship voyages to get grade 5 emissary as opposed to 4 before, and i only got 100k gold from 7 voyages as opposed to 150k from 4 voyages. It's ridiculous. The only loot that's worth it is the new stuff and world events, cause they want to make everyone fight over 1 batch of loot thats not even worth it. Its tedious if anything.

  • I have been testing for a couple of hours the different voyages of the merchant alliance ... it has left me quite sad.

It seems that the amount of gold earned is similar to what we were earning before, the reduction of crates seems unnecessary to me, it takes a lot of risk out of the voyage.

I understand that these are changes to speed up the game and to focus on more casual players, but the feeling is a bit strange.

I think the change to animals is a very good decision.

I haven't tried all the events, but receiving less loot (even though its value is the same) the feeling of emptiness it leaves is quite strange to explain.

Yes, 5 loot pieces give the same gold as 20 pieces before, but filling my ship with those 20 pieces gave me a feeling of "Happiness" and "Reward for the effort invested" that I don't feel now when collecting 3 crates of a skeleton galleon

I guess it will be getting used to this new system, but personally I don't like it too much.

  • @softwarengineer said in Loot nerfed into the ground?:

    @yoshometsu

Was there any Hidden Treasures or did the nerf make the Master Burglar commendation unachievable?

It is not unachievable. The key to the empty storage room counts as a hidden treasure, you just need to find 100 of them. Probably easier to sail to a fortress and get Master Burglar there.

  • The point of reduced treasure quantity but increased value has many reasons.

You need to do more than one voyage to hit grade 5 now, they dont want ppl diving to their target and immediatly being at full bonus to sell, as it presents little opportunity to be atacked.

Less loot but more value = less server lag overall (lol @ map lag glitch tho)

    Individual pices feel more impactful

It may take some getting used to, especially for veterans used to the giant lootsplosion we are accustomed to.

Lastly; you are recieving loot customized to your chosen emmisary. Risk vs reward applies here.. rather than a big pile of loot with only a few for your emmisary, a smaller pile of loot that all applies. Balance.

Normal WE and loot sources are unaffected and drop normally.

  • @softwarengineer said in Loot nerfed into the ground?:

    @yoshometsu

Was there any Hidden Treasures or did the nerf make the Master Burglar commendation unachievable?

It is still perfectly achievable for now. Even with the raids to sea forts. The thing is that it is better you don't activate the voyage and dive, instead you should sail normally to the sea fort and clear it. You'll get the normal loot there including the small pieces of treasure stashed for the commendation.

  • @dragotech123 eu ataquei mergulhando e veio o loot normal.

  • @soulstinger2k20
I understand that you get less loot because of server reasons and that the money per item might have been buffed. But the grand total you make as opposed to before Season 11 is significantly less, it's not the same anymore. I made 100k yesterday after 3hours!!! Where as i made that in 1 hour before. As long as it stays this way i'm gone.

  • @grisch1801 its not more rewarding in the end, you make significantly less. Reducing quantity is not the same as increasing value. If you cant see that , we're done.

  • @soulstinger2k20 said in Loot nerfed into the ground?:

BS it’s not balance. It feels less rewarding than before. That’s a downgrade. And the new treasure does not look anywhere near as good as the old treasure minus the new hero items.

Rare has ruined voyaging for me personally.

  • Faster progress for less reward sounds like balance to me.

Dont want tailored loot in smaller quantities? Do naturally spawning world events and things like seaforts/skelly ships.

Another point to make is perhaps the quantity of reward will improve once you continue to level up approaching and past distinction 1.. tho of this I have no idea.

  • @soulstinger2k20

What progress is faster? Spent 3-4 hours yesterday and this morning running Athena Voyages at level 18, still level 18...

Knocked out a Legendary Voyage in the Roar, did a Sunken shrine, and did the Weeping, Grog, Rage chest Quest. All three of these items combined maybe moved the bar 1/4 -1/2. Didn't even get close to Reaching Emissary Grade 5 (maxed at 3 1/2 after the the full 8 quest w/ all loot sold and delivered)...

Where is this so called Progress found?

What's an "athena sea fort"? 🤔

Doing an Athena Fortune dive to a Sea fort - should give Athena items instead of a mix.

Aye, AFAIK diving for an emissary should give you (mostly) emissary specific loot.
