The eye of reach is a great weapon that I never use purely because aiming it SUCKS with no actual reticle or cross hair and the only thing you have to aim with is the crack in the glass! If this was an actual weapon from back in the pirate days it would have some kind of actual reticle! The least they would have done is scratched some kind of sight into the glass (like a +). They wouldn't be aiming with nothing but a crack in the glass! Please change this and give this weapon a real reticle or cross hair to actually aim with!
Please change the eye of reach scope to have some kind of an actual reticle and not a crack in the glass!
The crack in the glass is a unique thing to do, and it's pretty much a reticle, so there's really no need to change it. If you're having problems aiming with it, use the intersection of the all the crack lines to aim.

If it was an actual weapon from the pirate days there would be no scope. There would be an ironsight and reduced accuracy.

Yep! People don't seem to realize that rifling; The groove in the gun barrel that imparts spin to a bullet & thus makes it more accurate, was not in heavy use until the 19th century.
Yes, it was invented in the mid-16th century (And the Golden Age of Piracy was from 1650-1720), but rifling did not become commonplace until the 19th century. So if OP wanted 'Actual weapons' from the Golden Age of Piracy; They would feature round shot and be horribly inaccurate!
@m1ke-da-1ke that's the point it's supposed to be busted piece of glass besides be happy a telescoped weapon at all sot is set during the golden age of piracy which is the mid 1600s and scoped weapons don't really make an appearance till the 1800s as far as I can find
@m1ke-da-1ke You basically just responded the fix yourself. Use the broken glass, thats how it works. It's always been like that and its a cool touch.

To make it clear, I can aim with the crack when the server is loading properly. But there are some times when the server is lagging and the textures won't load and when that happens the crack is one of the textures that DOESN'T LOAD so at that point you have literally NOTHING to aim with. This is why I'm saying there shouldn't be a crack and instead there should be an actual reticle/crosshair like actual period correct scopes of the time had. They didn't aim with cracks!

They didn't aim with scopes, period.
Rifles of the time did not have the range or precision to make optics necessary. Most projectiles were round balls with relatively poor range and being fired out of smooth-bore barrels. Crafting the glass and scope tubes was also a very involved and costly process. The first commercially successful scoped rifles only hit the market in 1840. So around 100 years after the golden age of piracy, which is roughly the time period SoT is loosely based on.
The eye of reach we use in SoT can most closely be likened to a prototype crafted by some forward-thinking Charles Wilson Peake-style inventor who ended up in the Sea of Thieves. And it was probably stolen from him because, pirates! We're lucky we even have the crack to aim with :)
@vakrisone the problem still exists that when the game is not running properly and won't load all of the game textures like it should (which I'm on an Xbox Series X and I run into this issue A LOT) that the crack is no longer visible and doesn't exist anymore so you literally don't have anything to aim with at all. Either Rare should remove the scopes entirely and replace them with some sort of iron sights that would be more period accurate, or they should replace the crack with some kind of reticle that isn't dependant an the game fully loading the textures to be visible. Because it's EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING when I'm playing and I try to snipe an enemy player only to find that when I aim down the sight of my scope I HAVE NOTHING TO AIM WITH BECAUSE THE CRACK IS GONE BECAUSE THE TEXTURES AREN'T LOADING. That's my main issue with the crack, it's not highly visible enough. It needs to be more substantial and more highly visible to make it so that even when the game isn't loading textures properly you can still see the crack and where your point of aim is at.
@guildar9194 I believe with my entire heart, that all the hitreg issues could be boiled down to "historical accuracy" XD

So, if textures from that crack doesn't load properly, you think a reticle's textures would load? Nice assumption...
Now this is something I can get behind. Give us things like tinted glass for the sight, and let us remove the scope and make it a rifle
