Scale down the current map.

  • Adding additional areas to the existing world will only create more sailing across an already large world.

If all islands were just brought a little closer together while keeping the same layout would reduce time it takes to get from point A to point B which could help retain players, as well as make expanding the world more sensible.

  • The map size is designed for 6 ships to have an optimal amount of interactions or meetings with each other. Reducing the map size would upset that balance once the servers get back to 6 ships.

Also season 11 (out on Tuesday) will reduce your initial travel time to start a given mission by allowing you to 'dive' to it. (The ship will dive into the water and then come up by the initial location for the voyage).

  • Megaladon spawns and immediately despawns due to the close island distance

  • @tek-lt naaa the world is great size with 5 ships to a server it give plenty of room to roam or chase down some one having to small means you'll be running to others with no room to breath between fights I'm all for pvp but sometimes you wanna avoid it

  • @tek-lt move them closer again? we already did that when the roar was added.

  • They just said S11 will have Diving to location mech. So why do you want to shrink the map, they already gave the players away to skip around the map.

  • I disagree with shrinking the map.
Doing so would also make it harder to avoid PvP by those who may not wish to do so, either by nature or by just not wanting to at the moment.

I don't necessarily want the map shrunk down either, but this logic seems a bit flawed. It doesn't seem like it would help or hinder PvP one way or another. Sure there's less space that another ship needs to cover to find or close the distance to you........but you'd have less distance to travel overall to reach an outpost, thereby reducing the total time you'd have loot on your ship anyway.

  • @tek-lt Yes, let's have less sailing in the game about sailing around the world. 10/10
Can we also reduce having to find treasure as that takes too long and just have it teleport onto our boat? I'm bad at navigating so can I just have a big blue arrow that shows me where to go? That way I don't have to read a map which is quite tedious. I'm sure all of these things will help to retain other players that don't actually want to play the game but feel for some reason they should play it.

While I would like to see more players in and on the game, I do not believe shrinking the gameplay area is the way to do it. This game the Sea of Thieves not the Large Lake of Thieves. Many (most?) players what more crews on the Seas (though hardware/software constraints seem to be preventing this) and making the play area smaller would leave less space to battle between crews if they are ever able to increase crew numbers.

Also, I personally like the large open area to sail and don't want to feel like I am going to run aground all the time or sail off into the red sea accidently.

  • This sounds like an idea a PvP player would have, honestly, since you'd find ships to fight easier.

Not sure if that was the intent, but if so, hourglass exists....

  • @mrat13 Not sure if just a pvp idea possibly just a time convenience idea for pve and pvp and RL time constraints and someone wanting to be able to do more "meaningful" things in the game with the time that they have to play with.

Correction, the original map before it was expanded was designed for 6, but seems we are lucky if there are 3+ per map.

  • @burnbacon Personally, I don’t care about saving time. I was just thinking if they ever wanted to expand further it would make sailing more tedious due to the size. Scaling it down slightly could solve this and it would be as simple as moving all island just a bit closer together.
