Hello, I would like to introduce you to a new weapon suggestion that could be fun to use: a hand-held Cannon that is literally just the cannon from a cannon rowboat beind held directly as a weapon.
Specs as follows:
-
A consumable weapon similar to the Trident of Dark Tides and the Ashen Wind Skull, it is a single-use weapon that can only fire off exactly one cannonball or one person before it breaks off and become unusable.
-
It can be found being carried by skeletons and paired alongside suicidal keg skeletons. A pirate can then slay them to obtain them.
-
a quirk with this weapon is that there is a knockback just like how a cannon rowboat could knock the ship backwards when shooting its cannon, but it is heavily amplified because well... you are literally holding a cannon barrel.
-
this means if you try shooting this weapon, you will receive heavy knockback and will travel for quite a distance away, and even shooting the cannon directly upwards won't stop the knockback as you would just ricochet back into the sky, meaning that there would be a certain risk that could be involved, especially if you are shooting from a cliff or a ship.
-
as for the damage, this is a cannon that you hold on your arm, a literal hamd cannon. This means the rule of thumb when shooting cannons will also apply to this weapon, with probably some small added depth of moving around actually affecting the cannon travel trajectory.
With all these mechanics and rules in place, I can definitely see this weapon positively affect your regular Sea of Thieves gameplay.
-
You could use it as a mobility tool similar to arcade shooters like the Unreal Tournament or Team Fortess 2's Soldier Rocket Launcher where you could use the knockback to reach high areas or travel against vast distances. Heck, you might even be able to use it to jump to ships, or use it as a sort of fall protection by shooting it before you land from a high ground.
-
You could even use it as a single use high-risk chase cannon on a ship. But of course the high knockback and its single use will require a lot of planning involved lest you fall of a ship or even self-damage your own ship.
What do you guys think? And do you have any further suggestions that could improve on this?
