Backstories for legendary characters

  • I feel like when I explore the story given by the rare team, we are given a simple description of how the sea of thieves came to be… specifically how Ramsey a common explorer found the shroud and journeyed into a land unimaginable however we don’t know anything before that. Like for example we don’t know how he became a said explorer or how he had a family, or anything like that and I feel that if we get more story elements explaining how these characters came to be then it would probably make the lore much easier to describe for characters like flameheart, how he became greedy and attempted to take over the sea of thieves but failed, for characters like him with no explanation of how his character came to be then how do we expect to understand these characters and how do we relate to them. Anyway this is just for fun and I hope we get stuff like this soon

Hmm, I think we did have a pretty detailed backstory on these characters, jist not on the game itself.

If I remember, Rare published a couple of Sea of Thieves comics in the past about some of the named characters.

  • @siegnard

    Those comics still available?

  • Chris Allcock has also written, Heart of Fire - available on Amazon for all Cap'n Flameheart followers! I believe he also wrote "Athena's Fortune" too.

  • Huh… I’m gonna have to check them out, but a reason I am bringing this up because of something I mentioned in a previous post. I want to have it where we can see first person views from legendary pirates like Ramsey and flameheart and I feel it would be important because from our point of view we see Ramsey and flameheart, 2 characters fighting for what they believe is important for the sea of thieves however it is our decision to decide which side we choose to be on and I believe for a story purpose if we can see this through THEIR perspective it can Let us see through their emotions, their hardships, their ways of thinking and why, stuff like this to help explain a character’s point of view and to help us understand these characters entirely, plus I always feel stuck staying with our pirates all the time usually I like to see through the perspective of other people so we get a better understanding of what the creators of a story want us to see in these characters.

  • @raven-knight810 There is a lot of history about these characters, but it's all outside the game.

Heart of fire shows flameheart's peak, it's an interesting and essential story to understand this character's arc.
(Unfortunately, it doesn't go much deeper into his worldview to make it understandable and defensible.)

Athena's Fortune tells the story of the Pirate Lord coming to the Sea of Thieves, the early years, battles, shows the story of the gold hoarder and the story of Larina.

There are comics too, including a series that tells the origins of characters and trading companies.

I recommend read some of these stories, but if you want a quick way to learn about the characters, each character's Wiki helps a lot.

  • @lleorb

Thanks for letting me know, I hope to read them

  • @raven-knight810 The audio book for Athena's Fortune is on Sea of Thieves YouTube channel for free....it's the full book great listen

  • @otherfanboy

Thanks for letting me know, I might have to check it out

  • @otherfanboy

Wait is it only audiobook or are there actual comics? It’s ok if you don’t know I am just curious

  • @raven-knight810 it just the book not sure where you can find the comics

  • Ok, I read Athena’s fortune and I admit the Rare team did a good job describing how Ramsey became the pirate lord and how the gold hoarder came to be, I am still yet to read heart of fire but I have a question as to how Ramsey was able to get Demarco into the sea of thieves, did he happen to give his son a map like Larrina? Or did Demarco head to the sea of thieves to find his father only to find a good area to start an arena?

  • Can any of the rare devs explain it for me because I have no clue 🤷🏻

  • Heres a fun one with a chilling end

Captain Saw: The Greed of the Barbaric Serpent

Born under the name Sawyer Whittaker in a small fishing village, the man who would become Captain Saw was once a humble fisherman's son. His father taught him the ways of the sea, but Sawyer yearned for more than the simple life his father led. He was captivated by tales of treasure and adventure, and as he grew, so did his ambition.

As a young man, Sawyer left his home, seeking fortune on the high seas. He joined a crew of privateers, quickly proving himself to be a cunning and ruthless sailor. His sharp mind and sharper blade earned him the nickname "Saw," and it wasn't long before he led a mutiny, taking control of the ship and rechristening it the Barbaric Serpent.

Captain Saw's reputation grew with every plundered ship and ransacked port. His greed knew no bounds, and his crew followed him, lured by the promise of endless riches. The Barbaric Serpent became a symbol of terror, its black sails a harbinger of doom for any who crossed its path.

The Sea of Thieves was Captain Saw's chosen hunting ground, a place where lawless men and women sought the fortunes that legends spoke of. It was here that Captain Saw heard whispers of an ancient gold, a treasure so immense that it could satisfy even his insatiable greed.

Ignoring the warnings of old sea dogs and the superstitions of his crew, Captain Saw led the Barbaric Serpent to the heart of the Sea of Thieves. It was there, on that fateful night, that they found the Golden Fleece and Captain Saw succumbed to the curse that turned his flesh to gold.

Despite his transformation, Captain Saw continues to command the Barbaric Serpent. His crew, now more fearful of their captain than of the sea itself, still sails under his command, their fates intertwined with his cursed existence.

The legend of Captain Saw serves as a cautionary tale to all who sail the Sea of Thieves, a reminder that greed can lead to a fate worse than death—a life trapped in golden immortality.bolded text
