Matchmaking still horribly broken.

  • We've lost 12 times in a row, we dive, and instantly get matched and resurface... so one would assume they were a great match for us, the crew that just lost 12 times in a row, since we matched so fast. Nope. Champion grade 5 crew with skeleton curses that one-balled both of us with their first two shots and our boat was sunk before we got back from the ferry. That made no sense... clearly we were out matched.. having lost now 13 times in a row. Take a second, look around the seas before doing that to us. Reasonable skill-matching was supposed to be part of the gig.

  • @gatkong it isn’t broken, it’s a lack of players in the queue to match you. The system matches you quickly so you’re not waiting for hours on end till someone else of your “skill level” joins the queue.

  • Yeah… there basically is no matchmaking… hasn’t been for a whole year now. When they introduced same faction battles, they reduced the requirements for the game to match you with the best match and just finds you any match. Though even the matchmaking before that update was pretty junk too. It was extremely loose requirements, nothing even close to what you find in other games with matchmaking. But it was their very first time doing matchmaking in any game, and this being a pirate game… there’s really no industry standards so I didn’t expect much.

  • @gatkong only the top players remain playing hourglass. The casual hg crew stands no chance. The mode has so few players now.

Continue to dive and improve naval angles.

    Good luck

  • I think once again players are misunderstanding HourGlass.
It Main function, has and always will be. For those who wish to skip the "Sailing around the map looking for a fight" to either find a ship that doesnt fight or one that does.

But then again, if that one that fights...what is the % of them being better than you? It the same result with HourGlass. If you found 13 times, and lost 13 times. To me...that could be you sailing around the map, finding that 1 ship who also wants to fight and still..Losing. Its not the "matchmaking" fault, it just bad luck.

Your finding Pvp, your getting Pvp. But your Losing....so what does that tell us? There is no other ship/crew out there who is close to your level of battle skill? Or you just have bad luck always running into a crew who is better.

  • That's strange that it would be instaqueue. Usually when I get instaqueue it is a tough fight as a bit more balanced and longer queues mean it could go either way in terms of balance as the window has widened due to time waited

  • @tesiccl I see. That probably explains why I lvl 42 with little to no skill match against pirates with lvl 200+ n lots n lots of skill.

  • @selgewick yeah, it depends the time of day you play too.

Yes, in theory hourglass is for people who are looking for a good PvP fight but there is something that you are forgetting, the Hourglass Curses!

So many people want the curses so much so that some people have resorted to loss farming because they lack the PvP skills. There are players well above LV 1000 who still play the hourglass looking for a fight. Others are only playing until they get their level high enough. A guy I occasionally play with is looking to get his guardian level up to 200 at which point he will stop hourglass all together. With no rewards past 200 with the exception of the gold curse no one wants to play.

Matchmaking is simply failing because of the lack of players. Once Rare introduces new cosmetics and commendations people will become interested in the hourglass again, at least for a little bit.
