Changing Ship type mid game.

  • I think it would be a good idea to be able to change your ship type mid game from the sovereigns area or the shipwrights. Or better yet. The currently unused shipyard area at port Merrick formerly golden sands. Picture this: you're on a gallon 2 people ditch you & leave 2 of you stay but you want to keep going but not on a bigger ship. You could pay the shipwrights or sovereigns say 5 -10k or so gold to be able to upgrade or downgrade your ship type. You'd keep the captaincy & guild status if it has it and any cosmetics stuff that is saved to the boat. BUT. You would lose all or at a minimum half of your supplies to be able to do this and you'd lose all crates & rowboats. A short loading screen later or maybe the hourglass scuttle/lose screen you'd be downgraded from a gallon to a brig or a sloop or a sloop up to a brig etc etc. You'd lose all loot as well from this & your emissary flags so it couldn't be used as a scummy way to save loot or remove risk from emissary play. After the load screen is finished you'd be able to continue as usual. Thoughts suggestions?

Honestly, if you don't keep your supplies and (maybe) emissary flag.......what's the point? Lose those things and you might as well just ditch the ship and start up a new one with the person you're playing with.

I do think if this is implemented it should force you to dive to a new server, and you shouldn't be able to dive if a ship is close.

Yeah that's uh, that's why the current way is ultimately superior, you run out of crew for your ship/gain more crew than your smaller ship size? It's time to wrap the session up, or open up your crew for randoms to join and fill in the spots.

It's also likely that this concept (without the forced switching servers) would make server limits quite broken since it's currently strictly limited to ensure 'stable' server performance.

Aye. besides the loss of resources and loot can be circumvented by filling a resource crate and dropping loot on an island, after the new vessel has entered the server sail back to the location of the scuttled one.
If loot (and nearby resource crates) would disappear this could be abused to remove loot so any other crews can't take it away from you.

  • @lem0n-curry There would definitely need to be bug fixes & cheats sorted out if added but it would be a cool feature
