How can I report cheaters if I can't see their gamertag or ship name?

  • Took a long, long break from Hourglass due to the cheating epidemic that hit this game. Came back today - 3 fights in, I go up against a ship named [][][][][][][][][][] captained by nobody, apparently. Never got close enough to see their gamer tag because they literally only shot Wraith Balls at me. No exaggeration, about 30 of them in a row. Nobody showed up on my recent players list. I have no names to give. How can I report a player like this? This was a blatant inventory cheat. I refuse to believe someone took the time to do 10+ Flameheart world events just to burn all those Wraith Balls on a single Hourglass battle.

I've seen screenshots of this kind of thing posted on Twitter recently. Seems like it might be gaining some traction.

  • @actuallyeric840 this doesn't sound like cheating, this just sounds like the individual spent hours collecting resources and went into hourglass to dump them all.
That said, they should still show up on your recently played with list

  • @actuallyeric840 nothing you can do sadly. This isn’t a you issue, it’s Xbox’s and Rare’s fault in this instance.

  • @actuallyeric840 I can confirm, this game is FULL of cheaters

  • rare doesnt trust its customers with ingame-reporting apparently. instead you have to fill out a supportticket like its 1996 all over again. and provide evidence. imagine...

  • @locke5474677 The problem is evidence is not always easy to collect

Can't say whether they were cheating or not, but names displayed like this are often just in another language, like Mandarin.

  • Record the clip and send it in anyway.

  • Ive ran into the wraithball spam twice in the past 48 hours. We boarded them; they had no crates aboard. Simply shooting them out of their pockets, about 20 to 30 per match.

People with aimbot, fast ladders, invisibility, the works.

Also I think theres a new captaincy supply exploit out there too, as I am encountering more and more crews with literally thousands of planks and cannonballs, who I highly doubt had won enough matches to naturally acrrue them.

  • I saw that on Twitter. The cheating boat got sunk and they had more than 700 wraith balls. I think there is an exploit, hopefully it gets patched soon.

  • Also; just witnessed the return of the "launch your boat into sommersaults" cheat the moment you load into a HG match.

Not only do you lose, it doesnt count as losing in a match, you respawn at an island rather than an outpost.

  • @phantaxus
    Wermux Twitter post?
He said it was cheaters that spawned in those wraithballs.
Those cheats where you can spawn infinite supps has always existed btw.
Not an exploit, just hard cheats lol.
I've been out of the loop for a few months, but cheating has gotten so bad at one point cheaters could spoof their gamertags, change it before diving to a new gamertag, essentially avoiding getting banned.

  • @ix-indi-xi Aye. I've been sunk by Wermux, he is a skilled player

  • @soulstinger2k20 Did that happen right after you were boarded by a player with the ghost curse?

If it did I think I can see how that might be possible.

I won't post the possible mechanics on here for obvious reasons but I will do some testing tonight and if I can get it to work you can rest assured that I will file a report explaining the mechanics to SoT support

-edit- I tested my theory and it didn't work

  • No, we never actually got out of the "rising from the ocean" phase.

As soon as we faded in from blackscreen we were spinning and got the ship sunk notice, faded back out still spinning

  • just feed them and start another 4 hour farm to feed next cheater

Wow! they must be able to conjure supplies they want. No way they could complete 700 flame hearts!

  • I just hat the same experience, dozens and dozens of wraiths fired at my crew, nearly perfect, no matter the distance.

The only issue I can see with this is if they do not have the capability (system hardware) to record and play the game reliability. I would also add that it would be helpful along with the video (if not added to the video already (timestamp) the time and date on the video where the cheating happened.

Do you just admit that you deny the possibility of a person obtain 50+ Wraith Balls with cheating?
    You're truly delusional and blind.

It could be they just sank a cheater with 50+ wraith balls and took them from their inventory, a report on that crew would hopefully Rare investigating how they came into possession of that many wraith balls and take appropiate action if needed.

Rare should warn people never to pick up weapons from a cheater, or they risk being mistaken for one...

I'd pick them up, just in case we encountered them again. I'm just saying that having possession of loads of wraith balls doesn't mean you are the one that cheats.

People have been stacking loads of forts, they could have been stacking loads of ghost fleets and/or encountered someone who did that, mixed in with some hyperbole from OP and a situation that comes across as suspect might not be.

Hopefully Rare can determine what ship and crew they have encountered even if the names were not readable by OP and investigate.

  • When the original supplies glitch was a thing we sunk a boat in hourglass with over 4000 cannonballs using stock supplies.

Fun Fact: each cannonball barrel can hold 3168 cannonballs

We took those resources out of hourglass, did voyages, avoided PvP and sunk in the red sea at the end of the night

Bruh the solution is pretty straightforward... Rare, just limit the damn curse balls on a ship. Already got 30 of those curses? Too bad, can't drop off your 999 wraith ball storagecrate aboard.

There have been issues of cheaters spawning wraith balls lately some how to my understanding. This is far from the first time i have heard this, but it is definitely difficult to prove.

  • @littlematjab having spent the time to do somthing like this, yes it is very possible to get that many wraith balls. Excess resources is not by itself a sign of someone cheating.

  • @goldsmen I haven't seen any cheating software capable of this. Not that it doesn't exist but it seems unlikely considering the information is stored server side and not client side.

That being said, as soon as someone rolls up with massive stacks of wraithballs and starts doing hourglass, there will be a larger than average number of people talking about it because they will most likely be successful in spamming them against multiple players. If they somehow do get sunk the winners will most likely harvest them and then use the resources themselves.

Again it's possible it's a cheat but is seriously unlikely.

  • @littlematjab that's not a very easy fix. Would it be 30 per ship or per barrel? Is that 30 per curse ball type or 30 total? What about storage crates filled with curses? What about the curses in each crew member's pocket, do those count toward the 30 balls?

There is just no way to limit it and it's far fairer to just let people collect and earn the things they find.

I also had a better solution: make sure that all the ship's cannons can only fire a curse ball at intervals of a few seconds to limit spam. So even if, for example, you're a cheater and you have 500 wraith balls, you can only shoot 2 or 3 per minute. And if cheaters are able to modify the time to reload a wraith ball, well, you see right away that they're cheating.

  • rare should pay for the reporters with this aweful report system.

Stuff being server side doesnt mean inaccessible, im pretty sure that sot is a packet based game seeing reg issues act a lot like packet loss, and much like any packet based game, all it takes is triggering the right packets to get something to appear.

I could be wrong how its done, but i can say for sure that cheaters are doing something to get more wraith balls than is humanly possible.

How do you explain the 700+ Wermux got from the crew his friends sunk?

Assuming 3 wraith balls per Flameheart fleets that is 233.3 fleets
If you do one fleet every 20 minutes that is 77.7 hours or 3.2 days to get that many wraith balls
No wonder they sunk they were probably sleeping!
