Ahoy!!
Happy New Year to all!!
After returning to the seas after the holidays, although I noticed this just before too I wondered if anyone has noticed too, a fewer players on high seas? Is everyone over at the Safer Seas or just simply taking a break, or stopped playing completely? I'm on Xbox, usually play with Xbox/controller server, however I've had to change over to both console and PC option for the possibility for an encounter. I find myself sailing for hours, without seeing any ships in sight. Server merge is regular too. Last nights server, somehow there was 2 Athena and 1 Merchant on the server, NO WHERE TO BE SEEN! I mean, I can finally do solo veils in peace haha... But, it's getting rather lonely, missing those busy seas, meeting scurvy pirates.
Where are the Pirates?
@lj-marst0n Players are clearly just good at hiding from you since you will never be alone in a server, the server triggers a merge once there are very few ships on it. Meaning as long as there are at least 4 other crews playing the game when you are, you will not notice any difference. As for many merges - time of day definitely plays a part in that as for example late at night, a lot of pirates will be selling and hopping off triggering the servers they are on to merge.
@HiradC UK. I usually find mornings are quiet for us, it’s our evenings/nights that get busy. I’ve been sailing in the nights hence why I’m so surprised it’s been quiet.

Yes, Yes and Yes.

This a very rare thing to read. Most of the time its, "I cant play because there ships everywhere trying to sink me" or something to that
But, it's getting rather lonely, missing those busy seas, meeting scurvy pirates.
You say that...but its always seemed to be the opposite to many others, which is why SS was partially created.
@sneezymanx51987 Mike Chapman on twitter did mention can't wait for people to hear the music of season 11 in 'a few weeks'
@hiradc Do we also get to play that music on our instruments then? Otherwise i wouldn't get much hyped over music for the menu, since i start the game up to play, not to keep the main menu open :-P
@hiradc That is always something to hype about. Even if there are not that many interesting new features, you at least get to 'grind' a new seasonal pass.
When exactly did the new season start again?

….or they all went safer seas!!
i would be actually interested in the safer seas numbers, its mind blowing why most of the players would go there but watever. i rly cant imagine alot of the playerbase enjoying safer seas over high seas.
speaking for me the game gets boring constantly, i love the game and always come back but i surely need long breaks in between, cause like there is nothing to do, and all i do is repetitive. this time i came back for barnacle chests and i was glad i was done after doing skellyfleets over and over. then i grinded hourglass, but yeah after a couple of weeks it just gets dull.
for me adventure servers are dead since season8. double gold/rep events beeing the exception to this. and yeah ofc u find a crew here and there but they are usually newer players. i rly miss the days before season8 when the whole playerbase was on one server creating havoc.
I have noticed that people on na servers seem to be more active than eu I tested this with a friend we server hopped on eu servers 20 times and then server hopped 5 times in na servers having 3 servers stacking fotd if you are on console you can't switch servers unless you join a friend on the targeted servers on pc you can use a VPN to switch servers
@lj-marst0n This game promotes Horrible and Toxic behavior. Most players looking for a fun game don't want to deal with the abusive toxicity present in this game
if u think stealing from other crews is toxic and abusive this game certainly istn for you.
@lj-marst0n my crew and I haven't noticed any significant decrease to the players. In fact I think we've been having more fights on average every night and it's great
@gunnner1 You know sometimes the veteran players just want to get things done. There is no logic in sinking a new player with starter loot, only to have them leave the server, uninstall and be replaced by a new crew that wont leave you alone.
I have been on this game long enough to recognise the importance of the new player, they take up a slot that could be occupied by a more aggressive crew, better that they fall in love with the game and come back to be tomorrows target.

@locke5474677 Rare places new players with veterans who have 1,000's of hours of game experience. It's not just the stealing, it's the unlevel playing field
What games don’t do this? What five year old game can one join and not experience a skill gap? I’ve played a lot of StarCraft and that game certainly has a ranking system, but it’s also completely different than SoT. Any time I join a game I expect to be humbled because obviously those who have been playing it are far better than me. This is normal…
Also, I see you mentioned toxic in your previous post. Well, one thing I’ve learned on these forums is to almost entirely disregard the word toxic, because too often I see people using that word to merely describe actual gameplay as intended within the SoT world. Players attacking other players, no matter how new they are or where they’re parked, is not toxic. It is allowed within the game rules, game mechanics, and is not a reportable offense.

@lj-marst0n all of them ran off to safer seas
My sessions haven’t changed, just last night I had a two brig two sloop battle. As has been pointed out on these forums a couple of times, it’s not difficult to fill up 5 ship servers. Even if the game were very nearly dead (which it is not) we’d still be able to fill a server per region. With that said, I’m on servers sometimes that seem “dead” but I always just assume that everyone’s doing their own thing and/or not running an emissary. It’s not hard to avoid players in SoT if we really want to. I hardly ever get merged and if I do it’s off hours.
@capt-greldik maybe, but it is really annoying that you actually need to search for players in order to interact with them. Makes it no different than safer seas tbh

In my experience it just depends on the server. Sometimes everyone seems to be out doing their own thing. Other times they can’t be avoided. Nonetheless, there’s no reason for a 5 ship server not to be filled up currently. Even if there are only 15 crews left playing in the world we’d still have full servers.

So you can understand when I say this game promotes Toxic behavior. If So many players Report "intended gameplay" as Toxic, perhaps the game itself has a serious problem
What is even more sad, and i am not aiming an arrow at you , is what you said about those mini adventures ... Back in the day , say the first year of this game , Pirates had adventures , Epic ones even , with eachother . Yes , there was fighting , and there will also have fallen toxic words as no game can completely wipe out toxicity , but we made the adventures with those that sailed around us . Today it is already hard to find another ship but what is even harder is trying to communicate with them. i mean , people lock themselves away from others by using the Party or Discord Chat, yes not to spoil tactics yes yes , i heard this before but do Pirates know that you can whisper with thy speaking trumpet?
This is not only a disease that plagues SOT , it is everywhere in any other multiplayer game as well. When i first could talk in a game , i never would have thought to write one line of text in a game anymore . Today however , you have to be happy if someone takes the effort of typing or you have no communication at all.Trying to roleplay in such an enviroment , and with this attitude that knows it's origin because people have simply taken too much toxic comments during all kinds of games , so that the fear of taking that first step into gamechat proves of a huge amount of courage .
i have loved this game with all my fibers during many years but when i find myself today in a random crew talking for hours towards written answers , then that fun has been seriously schrunken.

I don’t agree in the slightest. I’d go as far as saying that the internet, or better yet, anonymity fosters toxic behavior. But one doesn’t even need to join a game to find toxicity on the internet. I think that my meaning was pretty clear: people come to these forums and call players playing the game as intended toxic, because they don’t like losing, and to them, getting sunk in a game where everyone sinks tends to be interpreted as toxic. I’ve seen just about every in-game action defined as toxic on these forums. For that reason, I typically translate “toxic” to mean “I got sunk and didn’t like it”.
Also, you chose to ignore the first part of my post that you responded to. Care to answer that question? :)
These past few months there has been a lack of meaningful updates so I've decided to take a break from the game and play other things. Adventures have been boring for me, the monkey island tall tale was disappointing, that new Briggsy quest was repetitive and similar to the basic gold hoarder voyage, so I took break. I came back for a few days around the holidays but going back to take a break until more meaningful content comes out. that aside...
Another reason why you'll find less players is because of work or school. Even on weekends they might have some form of responsibility to attend to. As for holidays, most of them at the start of the year aren't as big as the ones at the end of the year so they still be busy throughout those days. Overall, finding friends and others to connect to who have similar free schedules for game play might be difficult to find. I'm sure lots of like minded players have reduced their playtimes due to life complications as we start the new year.
