Every 20K Gold Coins should be 1 Ancient coin, I think its fairly balanced and its a more fun way to get free ancient coins than running around on an island waiting for a sound to come to kill a skeleton that you might not get in time.
Gold Coins - Ancient Coins Converter
After doing some calculations, I don't think this idea is so absurd, to get 1000 ancient coins, which is the price of any costume, you would need 20 million gold... I have 110 million gold and with that I would only get 5500 coins
The only obstacle is the alliance servers, this could unbalance things, but once that is resolved, the idea of converting gold into AC is plausible for that value. It would help rebalance the game's economy.
@lleorb Have you also thought about the real world economy? Rare needs to be able to pay the bills. The selling of Ancient Coins is the primary source of income for the game, so it would completely wreck the profitability of the game and would only result in the game being shut down...
@Super87Ghost Look at the values, 100 million would only give 5k ancient coins(That doesn't even buy 2 full sets of ships) how many players are there and would be willing to spend all of that on AC. Getting 20 million is not that quick, especially for most players.
And they could balance even more, perhaps a limit of 1000 ancient coins per month, 20 million gold to exchange. It would have virtually no effect on the amount currently spent on the game.
The only problem is alliance servers

Sorry lad, but it won't work with Ancient Coins. However it would work with Doubloons. Just change the prices a little.
I agree with this. Rather have gold exchange be for doubloons instead of ancient coins. We already can buy gold with doubloons, so why not allow the other way around to be possible?
Okay your proposed conversion rate doesn't sound as bad as I initially thought, it seems reasonable enough.
To address Alliance Servers: If Rare considered Alliance Servers every time they added something new we would never get anything nice anymore. We wouldn't have gotten the CoF at FotD because it allows Alliance Servers to make money even more efficiently and so on and so on-
Alliance Server players are a small subset of the community. Unless they happen to a group that spends particularly much money on the Pirate Emporium we can just not consider them. And seeing as they spend their money on priority queue passes I'd think they'd actually be a group that would spend less money on the emporium than the average player. To get back to the main idea though: The way I see it we don't need a way to convert gold into ancient coins.
We have always had ancient skeletons as a way to earn ancient coins.
These days we also get a guaranteed 250 ancient coins every season from the free pass.
We've had community days with extra ancient skelly chances (where on the last one I made a chill 5000 or so ancient coins).
And most recently ancient coins got added to microsoft rewards. You can easily make a few hundred reward points per day by just playing the game. That would sum to at least a few thousand points per month. About 5000 points buy 550 ancient coins. With enough dedication you could get that once a month, not a dime spent. We have more ways than ever to earn ancient coins completely for free. If you ask me we have enough ways and they don't need to add another (especially not one with potentially unforeseen consequences for the economy).
