alliance betrayal

  • no one wants to join an alliance becuase no one trusts anyone and makes the game toxic and unfair for solo players who are easily overwhelmed so please add some sort of penility to those who sink allied ships like a 70 percent reduction in all gold and rep earned

Here's a tip. Join the alliance, head to the opposite side of the map. Turn in frequently so they're less likely to think you're stacking and worth more sunk than earning...

It's not toxic to sink someone in your alliance. especially if they're leaches

  • @pithyrumble i was only fishing and decided to help then clear an fort of fortune before they sunk my ship

  • I join alliances all the time. Some are good some betray me. You’re playing a pirate game, pirates are going to pirate.

  • @wonderwaffle559 if thats the case then there shouldn't be an alliance system to begin with

  • @cyrus3681 why not? As I just said some are good and help me make a decent amount of money. It’s a risk some players are willing to take. Just because your experiences have not been good does not mean they should take it away from everyone.

  • @wonderwaffle559 everyone will sink a solo sloop if it means more gold for themselves i know from experience

  • @cyrus3681 I solo very often and have joined many alliances. Just yesterday I joined up with a Galleon and we did a skelly fleet together and they did not sink me

  • You don't have to trust someone to be in an alliance with them. The most interesting alliances are the ones where you can't trust your alliance members. In my experience, alliances are all about convincing the other alliance members that what you can offer is greater than the security they would have if they sink you or chase you off.

  • The possibility of betrayal is the only thing that makes alliances balanced...

  • @gaudierpuppy866 and tell me how exaclty are solo sloop supposed to convince them when they can easily be sunk when they are away form their ship at the very list traitors should have an aura around their ship that last for one or several days showing everyone that they will betray when they get the chance

  • @cyrus3681

Lol probably had the same situation reversed on them before and lost the CoF.

That part about heading to the opposite end of the map? Yeah...

I would have helped with the battle but as soon as It was over leave.

  • The losing crew wants to punish the winners in PvP.

Nah. Someone just got an intro to SoT Alliances lol

  • @pithyrumble @gaudierpuppy866 doesnt change the fact the solo sloops are easily sunk by just about everyone if their not gods at the game which most aren't and @Lleorb how exaclty does that make it balanced when only a few solo sloop would be able to even put up a fight, that counting that their even on their ship

  • @cyrus3681 The other alliance members don't know you are a solo. You can tell them you have a crewmate waiting on your ship that is ready to sail away at the first sign of trouble from the other members of your alliance.

  • @cyrus3681

I'm only a minor deity at the game and not in the combat way. You can fight in other ways besides using your weapons. It's hard to sink you when they can't get range and angles because of your position.

I'm curious tho... did they leave the alliance immediately after sinking you?

  • @gaudierpuppy866 that will maybe work for like 10 seconds

  • @pithyrumble no but they undoudingly planned to after they finished loading up the loot form the fort

Yeah. It happens. Someone wanted to play villian for a bit. You walked right into the trap. Did they promise you loot? It happens. Laugh about it. Well played! Love (hate lol) being on the receiving end of a good ambush. Even if I totally see them coming and just play along.

Anyway better luck next time tho. Seriously, read my alliance advice and apply it. You'll be dodging sketchy Alliances easily very quickly lol.

  • @pithyrumble no they did not, I was just fishing for battle gill before I thought to help them beat the boss

  • @cyrus3681 said in alliance betrayal:

I respectfully disagree. If you threaten to leave the alliance if they try to board your ship, there is no risk free way for them to make sure you really have a second crew member, since said second crew member could sail away and leave the alliance if he or she exists.

  • @gaudierpuppy866 all It takes is one person to take a quick look to see there is no second person, and if their is the person has the drop on them becuase the other crewmate gave her away, and if they see your lying they drop your anchor and sink you, your argument is rendered moot

  • @cyrus3681

You should have left immediately after the boss fight. They were protecting their loot. Probably been sunk by an "imjustfishin" pirate before.

There's sometimes a back (stab) story you don't know about.

I'm not saying you were in the wrong for wanting to help out. Use your mic and tell then you want to help, heck admit you want a completion. If they don't talk back leave asap after the pve threat is gone, or even a little sooner if you're trying to get a completion. You don't have to be there for the pve kill to count to your total.

Did it suck? Yeah. But it's all part and parcel of the game.

  • @cyrus3681 betrayal is part of the system iv been in plenty of alliances that worked out great and who came for us it's all part of the risk and reward system in the game but as for being overwhelmed as a solo player SoT isn't meant to be played solo it's meant to play with a crew and there's tools for finding crews and guilds but if you prefer solo then KNOW your playing on hard mode that's your choice there's zero reason to make the game easier for someone who doesn't wanna play with others in a game designed for multiplayer....nothing against you personally

  • @pithyrumble i did tell them and guess what they went back to their ship and sunk me becuase I was away there needs to be consequences otherwise new players will either be driven away becuase they cant do anything against other or become toxic themsleves

  • @pithyrumble and the fight was still going on when they sunk my ship

They can only get the drop on your second crewmate if they know where he or she is. There are plenty of places where a crewmate can hide using emotes and keep tabs on what happens near the ship. Furthermore, you can put loot on your ship to create spaces to hide with emotes. Your alliance members may get lucky and guess where your crewmate is hiding, but the odds favor the alleged crewmate far more than your alliance members. Furthermore, they have no idea how good your crewmate is. It makes sense to have the person who is best at PvP stay on your ship, so for all they know, they could be taking on a 5000 hour PvP god.

  • @cyrus3681

You need to lose the whole "they didn't do what I wanted so they're toxic" thing.

You were toxic for bothering their fort. You could have stayed on your ship fishing for battlegills, but you tried to steal their fort. That they paid 100 doubloons to get a Skull of Fortune or actually bothered to gather all the lights to start it with a ritual skull.

The toxic door swings both ways and you were the one being toxic.

Hyperbolic, but then so are you currently.

Sucks for you that you interrupted someone's fort and they decided to deal with you instead of sharing.

It's all a matter of perspective.

Calm down. Have a cookie. Take a deep breath. Leave game, come back later.

    ✌️git gud

  • @pithyrumble i was there before they were and it was a naturally occurring fort not the fort of the damned

  • @pithyrumble and they left me alone for a bit as I caught fish but instantly when I left my ship after saying I would help them they sunk me, they wanted the alliance and I never said once that I wanted any of their treasure

  • @cyrus3681 said in alliance betrayal:

Maybe leave when another crew shows up? You wanted to fish battlegills right? Wouldn't have gone ashore had the other crew not shown up?

You do understand the betrayal looks YOU were giving? Because I would have (attempted, I'm bad at pvp) sunk you without forming an alliance if I were doing a fort

You can fish Battlegills in SS btw.

  • @pithyrumble hard to do on solo sloop seeing how you have to keep repairing becuase of skely ship and it is impossible to just swim to an outpost

  • @cyrus3681

And another layer of the mystery unfolds.

Take an L. Bye. You refuse to learn and I have Christmas venison chili to make.

  • I've been betrayed every time I'm in an alliance.
But, as people like to say 'Pirates will be pirates'. Which translates to 'People can be toxic and you have to accept it'.

So now I don't join alliances. Because they're used as an easy way to track and sink a target.
