Where's the Reward in Safer Seas?!?

  • A few interesting data points I've gathered this weekend in Safer Seas:

A Skullfort, a Skelly Sloop, Skelly Galley, roughly 20 GH Chests, 8 Mermaid Gems, and what I would estimate to be 15-17 miscellaneous crates/chests and low tier skulls netted a friend and I barely 40k gold. This was all accumulated over 4ish hours as I've been teaching my friend the ins and outs of the game.

By contrast, a Grade V Emissary in High Seas would've basically matched that with the Mermaid Gems alone, in addition to much larger reputation gains. My estimation on total loot worth, low-ball would be 325k with a Grade V Emissary.

That's not remotely close to a '70% reduction'. It's infinitely more lost given the limitations with Emissaries. Don't even count the double rewards of this event SS doesn't benefit from!

The rewards of Safer Seas are virtually non-existent for the effort one puts into them. It's nothing more than safe space for Tall Tales, but learning many of the core activities of the game are not worth the time with such insultingly low reward outcomes.

It's hard to see a sustainable future for the gamemode. The limitations and rewards of Safer Seas simply aren't worth the effort for someone who has previously engaged endgame, but wants to sail in peace. The lack of reward in SS is both uninteresting and disheartening.

The reward? You are t in here making a thread about “toxic” pvp players?

It’s an extended tutorial. It’s meant for players like YOU to tell your friend how much more y’all would have made on High Seas so once you get him caught up to speed he is down to hop over and make way more money.

If you want to stay on SS indefinitely then that’s ok too! But 40k guaranteed is more than 325k and your flag lost to pirates. Someone else in the forums called it a protection fee.

  • The reward is getting to do all that with 0 opposition or risk.

If the % of rewards bother you so much, why not go in Higher Sea then?

These endless Safer seas threads complaints are getting repetitive. for such an endgame player, a bit of additional risk shouldn't be a big deal should it?

  • As has been stated countless times before, but here it is once more:

The game design and intent for Sea of Thieves is a shared world adventure, and it always will be. Those who wish to play in the confines of Safer Seas will always have the option but we will not bring the rewards and activities in line with those of High Seas when many of the restrictions are in place due to the risk vs reward factor that is inherent in Sea of Thieves - removing any risk means rewards must be balanced accordingly.

Safer Seas will act not only as a safe space for our Tall Tale players but also for families with children who just want to pirate, for people who want to play the game but learn the ropes and it will organically feed into Adventure mode, keeping the player pool there healthy and upskilled as they've learned the mechanics.

This is not only useful for new players but families, players with accessibility needs - the whole game suddenly become available in a way it hasn't before, letting them naturally progress to High Seas and being a Pirate Legend. SoT has grown a huge amount in 5 years and it can be fairly overwhelming.

The borders put in Safer Seas mean that to experience the full depth and breadth of the game you will have to hit the high seas BUT if you're playing with your family you don't have to, you can just enjoy the game and have fun as a family.

And with that we will go ahead and drop anchor on this here. Thank you.
