Idea for SoSS

  • So I just had a wild idea. What if SoSS was a little more nautical in theme? Like what if instead of the key/chest being burried on an island sometimes it's on a shipwreck like the missing shipments are. Or even simpler, we know what island they went down at and what heading from the island they were last seen?

The coral skeletons are thematic and all, but this way we'd see more sirens on the quest.

Or maybe having the skull on board means being harassed by sirens as you sail? I'm just spitballing here.

  • Interesting ideas for sure. For me though, I think I would like for the team to consider the event delivered and focus on future projects. There are lessons to take from SoSS (like all events) but they can use them on future projects rather than coming back to faff around with the one that is already live for some cosmetic or lore theme reasoning.

  • I wouldn't mind some more variety on the activity involved, although the cynic in me thinks the work required to implement may not add enough relevant value.

Maybe have a longer range on the attack when underwater would be cool.

One of my most memorable hand ins was me on duo sloop vs brig, we sink next to the hand in island so I'm swimming the skull there while crewmate brings ship back.
Had to kill 3 people in the water (2 with skull) before dying to a load of sharks (did get the hand in). Those water fights can be a lot of fun.

  • @crowedhunter It's an interesting idea, matey. I like it. I would also recommend maybe, once in a while, hide one in Siren Shrine.

  • @hiradc Honestly, even though they're kind of clunky, it's an inuitive kind of clunky that feels very right. Like you would expect fighting underwater to be.

Some of my favorite times I've been bested have been in underwater duels where people did a spining sprint to side dodge me as I fired. Very slick. Very amusing. I laugh every time. And when the bullets run out it gets immensely sweaty compared to normal sword-fights which is also very funny juxtaposed against the restraint imposed by the water.

  • @selgewick That does sound thematic. Although my concern for that is the time it would take to circumnavigate the shrine in a timely fashion. It's possible that this could work as a deterrant to people engaging with the activity given the commitment. If it was simply in one of the shipwrecks outside of the shrines and you could just drop it and it float, I could see that working out about the same as the shipments in terms of time spent.

  • @crowedhunter I think it would be nicer if it would be inside the Shrine. By doing so, it would encourage pirates to expolre Sunken Kingdom and also create an atmosphere like in Indiana Jhones films. But with more danger since ye will need to get there quickly and find yer treasure while yer crewmates are looking for upcoming vessels or battle other ships. Such event will enchance such voyage and encourage more to pvp instead of running. Also it will bring pve side to this voyage and make it more iconic by making sirens attack yer vessel while ye there or got there and sailing.

  • @selgewick The one and only thing which convinced me to do the shrines was when there was an adventure set there. When I get a breath of the sea for a shrine, I hide it from the radial. If they made this change, I wouldn't ever go for one of the pieces as a solo. Or even as a duo because I dislike the shrines. They are hands down my least favorite activity.

Not to mention people would just lock them up in mermaids. Or with that disabled, they would take twice as long as a normal shrine manually carrying it back just to discover their ship was already sunk because they were solo. So naturally, everyone would just camp and wait for fools to do the activity. Engagement goes down even lower as a result.

  • @crowedhunter Thats why when ye put Skull of Sirens Song in it or Key or Chest, ye will meet another mermaid, which will be seen for all and acessed by all. Plus, it's only yer opinion about Shrines, there a lot of different pirates who like or dislike 'em, so it doen't affect my offer much.

  • @selgewick That's a good workaround. And while you may not consider my opinion worth much, I still value yours enough to discuss this with you, for the moment. Please refrain from dismissing my feelings. Of course it's just my opinion. I'm not talking about someone else's opinion. I shouldn't need to preface every opinion I have with a disclaimer. The only reason you would even point that out is to belittle me.
