My Safer Seas Kraken Question Was Never Answered

  • And since the discussion has been locked...
I will ask it again, and hope a mod or dev can chime in:

So, when a Kraken spawns on HS, it's got a 1 in 6 chance of spawning on you. (I think the servers are 6 ships max?)
But you're alone in SS, so does that mean you have a 100% chance of the Kraken spawning on you if it decides to spawn?

Or is there a kind of dice roll system? For example:

    • Game checks for World Event: Yes/No.
      If Yes: No Kraken.
      If No: Roll For Kraken.
    • Roll for Kraken: Yes/No
      If No: No Kraken spawn.
      If Yes: Roll 1-6.
2-6: It does not spawn on player (This simulates the Kraken spawning on someone else)
1: Kraken spawns on the player.

Because without some sort of system in place, every Kraken spawn in Safer Seas is 100% going to spawn on the player, making Safer Seas a bit more dangerous than High Seas, due to the lack of other targets.

  • Not more dangerous because there is no pvp.

My guess is that people will see the kraken about the same amount on safer seas. Krakens aren't after every event so just like high seas a lot of people will only see them once in a while depending on how long they are on a server.

  • Depending on the wind and your direction you can sail through faster than fighting too lol

If it spawns after every event players will learn to be prepared. It'll make Safer a little more interesting.

Yeah if it does spawn every time, people will know to anticipate it.

It is indeed easily and rapidly escapable, and the event itself scale as well depending on the ship and crew, so a solo sloop would only need to kill 2 tentacles to defeat it anyways. (5 cannons each if I recall?)

  • I don't see why it wouldn't. It's not an especially challenging fight. Sometimes the tentacles that pull you off the boat bug but aside from that it shouldn't be sinking anyone. Maybe if it attacks in the Roar. Which would be pretty cool too. I'll bet a caldera makes it release your ship.

  • I wouldn't be too concerned even if it's 100%. You'll very quickly get to the point where the kraken is a no more than a minor inconvenience.

Not gonna lie, sounds like a cheeky attempt at making the encounter looks scarier than it is to tip the risk/reward scale :D

True, and despite the encounter scaling in difficulty for 1-4 player crews, the main factor that made any kraken a potential deathtrap was the possibility of other crews taking advantage of your predicament to sink you (which can't happen there).

  • @bloodybil Maybe I'm just hearing what I wanted to here but I totally agree that Kraken rewards should increase.

I'd be more concerned about farming Kraken commendations.

The fight, if players don't want it they can just stay below and repair until they sail out.
