Ok, I have noticed this for a time but never really cared enough to comment. But I am done with this. Rare, you need to stop forcing HG into Rough Seas. I am getting really sick and tired of every single fight having to be a dice roll if my shots will hit. I cant even see the enemy ship most of the time because the waves are so big. Im a solo sloop, it is very exhausting when my cannon is aimed 30 feet above my enemy, but my cannonball goes straight into the water. Stop messing with the stupid microtransactions, fix ship fighting
HG needs to be adjusted
Newt cannons take time to learn, part of which is learning to adjust for worse waves. It can be done, try using WASD as its faster than mouse to move your cannon. I would also suggest streamers like IlightningZero, Idbz, and other competitive sloop hg players to learn where you should place your shots, and if you're solo remember cannons require you to keep yourself in a good angle. Gl brother, don't get too frustrated and Ps the waves are always the worst on Northwest.
@fpsnewt rough seas? Like in a storm? If not, then sail any direction but North West, you’ll have an easier time, otherwise, get out of the storm.
@tesiccl no i mean theres different variations of ocean, ranging from calm to rough. the waves will change based on your area and weather. u can sail and fight on calm seas in the open ocean, but I notice every HG fight, even if it starts on calm seas, will turn to rough seas, and force you to adjust your shots for rougher waves. seems a little manipulative
@fpsnewt The waves are based on how far away you are from islands, rocks, and other things which break waves. Additionally, 3 out of 4 regions have high waves. So what you are meaning to ask for is for all fights to happen in the Shores of Plenty.
@itzeggward I have 2k hrs, i know cannons. Its not me, its literally the waves go into rough seas, which is annoying, at least on solo sloop.
@fpsnewt that’s purely directional then. Like I mentioned, going between West and North is tough because the waves naturally travel south, pushing your ship constantly left or right and forcing you to readjust, making your cannon aim horrendous. Your calmest water is always going to be around an island or above a shipwreck but you can manipulate the fight to get the softer waves by travelling any direction other than the ones I said above. Force your opponent to travel in the direction you want and give yourself the advantage of an easier time.
@fpsnewt you know what? I see it too now. I wondered why my shots go so short or too long and you are 100% correct, HG waves are different. They bounce you way more, can’t believe I needed a second opinion to put two and two together!
@hijack-hayes Although it was not always like that, it was during the first half of season 9 when I noticed that waves were affecting cannon trajectory much more than they did before. However, it was a long time ago, so I can't say with 100% certainty. Additionally, I did not explore all of the conditions under which it occurs.
I like how it is right now, as long as all players are affected by the same conditions. Waves usually provide an opening for me against people with very good cannon aim, creating opportunities when the enemy misses their shot due to the waves.
It also opens up more possibilities for different strategies, but I would still like to hear an official statement on this issue.
I’m not bothered by the waves since it affects both parties, but one thing that we can do is choose our battle locations by getting invaded. I used to be pretty into getting invaded and my location of choice was the ghost fort south of plunder. I’d clear the fort, and right after putting up hourglass I’d harpoon everything for a tier 2 (occasionally tier 3)faction treasure trove. After that I’d hit the little island just north of that fort in hopes of getting a couple pieces of loot in order to barely reach tier 3 treasure trove.
I chose plunder for two reasons, for one it’s pretty close to the fort south of it, but also because the waters are always nice down there, meaning that every fight was in pleasant seas. I don’t recommend this method for leveling speed, but if you want to choose your location it’s a great alternative. It could potentially be good for leveling, but I think on average it’s easily not, and one would be better off just queuing, but it’s nice to mix it up sometimes. Also, occasionally you’ll be able to turn in without a fight which may appeal to some people, but again it would probably just be faster to loss farm if leveling without a fight is the goal.
