I think Rare turned up aimbot for Xbox players a bit too much

  • @gunnner1 I would be interested to know how many good players are actually using it. I've turned it off, def don't claim to be good but I suspect a lot have.

  • @hiradc I didnt realize it could be toggled off. I'm just venting. 2 fairly new players I matched in HG just hit me over and over no matter where i was on the boat. Sent me to the ferry multiple times

    1. how do you know they are Xbox
    2. how do you know they are using aim assist/aimbot?
    3. are you sure it isn’t a “skill issue” as some would say
  • @burnbacon I talked to them, It's widely known Xbox uses aim assist for its players, And you are correct, im not the most skilled, but these new players certainly had skill

  • Well, I am playing on controller without aimbot, so I don't see any problem. Plus, I have heard that PC recieved it too.

  • Imo it doesn't change much at all

If people aren't strong in tdm this won't change that at all

If people are strong in tdm they would have to re-adjust, it's not something that makes someone better, even if they are already good

Streamers have been going on and on about it

Season 8 made all these sharpshooters, aim assist is morale and a bit of qol for some players in reality. Even cranked up it's not anything that changes anything in these fights.

People can pistol hip fire some skellies better, that's about it. It's too random and chaotic for consistency outside of that.

New players have been cracking random shots for years, it's been meme'd for years. Assist isn't changing anything in the kind of tdm that is happening these days.

  • Ok, I don't "understand" the settings, is it on by default? And when it is at 1 what does that mean? 🙃

  • It's not a very strong aim assist, I doubt that's the reason their shots were so good. It occasionally will slightly lead your gun for a very brief moment when you aim, that's it.

  • @foambreaker it is on by default, when I did originally try I turned off hip fire aim assist and another like that, otherwise anything running in front of you drags your aim. I think you ideally want to choose a target then when you start to aim down sight it help you refine aim onto that one

  • I tried it, but man does it change how combat feels. More power if it helps players, but for me it just made combat feel too “different”.

It's just become the new "sus".

If someone gets outplayed or an opponent does something well there often has to be a reason other than just someone playing well.

Now it's "assist is so overpowered it's so much stronger than other games etc etc" (not talking about op, talking about narratives from influencers in the community)

People (including controller players) are just significantly more skilled than their pre-season 8 selves.

As the game gets older the average pvp skill (of people that want to fight) goes up.

Some will talk about how people aren't good at this game but that comes from people that are regularly hunting inexperienced pvers and/or those that over power their ship and then sink less experienced or smaller crews.

A lot of people are solid+ at pvp in this game now, m/kb and controller. SoT assist isn't making anyone a better fighter, it's just slightly bumping up qol for some casual players.

  • @wolfmanbush I’m not advocating to change it, I just had a hard time adjusting from how combat “felt” pre aim assist and I still like that feel so I just keep it turned off. I agree I’m sure it’ll be the COD “Controllers have aim assist” and new “sus”

It's so inconsistent and awkward that it almost requires having zero controller experience when starting it to allow it to be viable months and months and months down the road for pvp.

I'm glad they added it for people and I do think there are situations where it will somewhat help people in general play but as far as something that goes beyond that? no way imo

I'd support them working on it even more to help people out. This doesn't really help many out but will get everyone accused of assist, might as well help people out if they gotta hear that all the time anyway, lol

  • @wolfmanbush ya I’m with you, I’ve played so long without it just feels wrong, but if it helps newer pvp players or players looking to pvp more go for it.

  • Unless it defaults on I'm not using it because I still miss pve shots.

  • I hate how strongly it pulls you in to the target, especially hip fire. Just ended up turning it off.

  • I have no problem with aim assist. PC players typically are at a huge advantage in any FPS game because you can literally train a monkey to point and click with a mouse. Levels the playing field at least a little.

  • In what I have seen these past weeks is the aim assist is completely broken. The blunderbuss is god tier with that aim assist. I play fairly competitively and good xbox crews are impossible to board and if you let them board, they can easily wipe your crew with a blunderbuss. I have spoken with many of these crews, and the general feel is that it works more the closer you are so if you are point blank, its always dialed in for a one shot. The strategy seems to just be run in as close as you can and kill instantly. The first thing we do now when we are sizing up a boat is determine if they are xbox because if they are, then we have to play completely differently because tdm is basically not an option. I get fixing the weapon exploits, but adding one is this brutal is crazy.

Most xbox ships are still completely beatable, but the really good players now are essentially playing with an aimbot that you cannot beat.

    None of this is new.

People have been better at guarding ladders for a long time at this point, people have been one blundering for a long time.

Assist is far too clunky to be reliable, it's far more of a hindrance to skill than anything else.

and blunderbuss is super inconsistent in general with reg issues

HG shook up the wrecking-pvers meta. Skill went way up with those that fight, the old tricks rarely work on people that know how to fight, fights are long and drawn out even against crews that just repair/boarder guard.

It was a different pvp environment before assist.

It's why solo pvp has become even more of a -glutton for punishment- style. It's just a different fight environment because of the skill increase.

  • @ogron2358 I agree. I never 1 shot kill with the blunderbuss even when i shot center mass on a guy at my helm, yet I ALWAYS die to 1 shot blunder. Frustrates me to no end.

  • @foambreaker Yes, "aim assist" is "on" by default. it's up to Xbox players to turn it off

  • @gunnner1 are you not aiming down sight with your blunder before you shoot?

  • @wolfmanbush its super different than the old "good" blunderbuss people. There is no ads that xbox needs, and that moment in time matters a lot at the high end. We pvp a lot, I felt the difference in the weapon switch stuff and it took a bit to get used to, but then we started encountering this. A good xbox crew is a completely different meta. you are playing with a built in aimbot, it feels much less like people that are good with blunder and much more like the last couple seasons when you would hit aimbot cheaters. They are still beatable, but you have to do it differently and hope you are better at the other parts of the game. Jumping around and swording block jumping through their body do nothing, so your skill at low range doesn't matter. Good players still miss. We still beat or are at least competitive against gold ghost/skelly crews. We just cannot beat some of the new xbox crews that in the past, we could have easily. The strong indicator for me that it is problematic is that its very easy to tell if they are on xbox, and you literally have to play completely differently. Also, messing with xbox galleys as a solo along with other adventure shinanigans are so difficult because they have the blundy skill of a god literally built in.

  • @gunnner1 I have aim asst. on and still can't hit the broad side of a ship they may have just been more skilled
