Chest of Fortune

  • Hello mates,

I really doesn't understand why the Chest of Fortune was removed from FOF and only way to get it is doing the FOTD. Just the name tells you where you can get it lol, maybe FOTD needs a new treasure but not the chest of fortune..., what do you think guys?

  • I believe Rare are experimenting now with world events and trying to boost fotd popularity. I think once they release the full cosmetic set, it will probably return to FoF and if they continue to add nothing to existing content, fotd will be forgotten again by most ^^

  • @gattsujim imagine trying to tell the game devs that you know better 😅

  • Yeah, FOTD was forgotten because was superseded by FOF, but in this point I think the best option is add a new chest to FOTD and let the Chest of Fortune in FOF.

At this point there is a special case and that is that you can do the FOTD as many times as you want but the FOF cannot, so the value of the chest should not be the same.

well this is what I think :D

  • @gattsujim

The reason why the Chest of Fortune was moved to a new location is because Rare told us it would move to different locations with each season. The reason why it’s in the FOTD is because this current season was in the month of October.

The Chest of Fortune will continue to move to different world events in order to keep each world event relevant. It will most likely return to the FoF but only after cycling through the remaining world events. The Chest of Fortune will never have a permanent home even after all 5 grades of the commendation have been unlocked and available to be completed.

  • @coffeelight5545 Well, atleast this sounds a bit better than I expected, a rotative chest of fortune ;) Thank you for the info.

  • I’d prefer it to say permanently at FOF but happy for a 2nd location to offer it on a rotation

  • Some pros and cons to it imo

Also, adding a new sought after item post season 9 is very different than adding one pre season 8

Pros would be you get stacking, easier stacking because of the nerfs, some nostalgia for some, takes even more pressure off surrounding pve . A lot of players are significantly more skilled now and will do some pve grinding these days which creates a bit more challenging and interesting player pvp content. This becomes more interesting when the new pvp content hits this month, it'll be interesting to see HG/FotD/new pvp content working together.

Cons would be it's not really that interesting to many that aren't in that fotd style, more hopping for targets, fotd stacking is terrible for servers, I can feel it every time it's happening.

Personally I'd prefer them being randomly spread around for interesting adventure scenarios but it is what it is, CoFs seem to have done pretty well the entire time they've been around so far. They have made so many improvements with risk/reward in the last year that my days of being critical about stuff like this are pretty much over.

The game went from pretty terrible risk reward to solid and sustainable risk reward balance with improved pvp through leaning into opt-in pvp scenarios. So I'm much more supportive of this decision now than I would have been in season 6/7.

  • I liked the change, it was faster to complete the commendations since you don't have to wait for an event to appear, but I think you should be present at both events.

  • @gattsujim tho whole point of the chest was to cycle it through world events every season in hopes to make these events feel relevant again.

  • I had my doubts before the release of season 10, but now I'm sure. Putting the makeshift chests in the fort of the damned is the worst idea ever.
As for the alliance servers, I don't need to spell it out for you.
But above all, there are hardly any active forts of the damned.
I've seen it with my guild. 4 ships, 15 servers each and only one fort.
    It's a real nuisance.
And don't get me started on it myself, there's no way I'm going to farm (again) 60 forts of the damned for one chest.
I can't wait for season 11 to see where this chest will go.

are you hopping to steal them?

I see fotd quite often, really since season 8 settled in they've been pretty common as far as organic play goes

I've seen quite a bit of stacking. I play a lot and invest in servers though so I'll see things hopping and short times on servers won't show as much.

18 minutes from this post a ship just started a fotd on my server, which is pretty typical of what happens. I'll be on for a server for a while and then one pops up.

  • @gattsujim The Chest of Fortune was always planned to migrate between world events over time and never planned to be a mainstay for any single event.

in a while it will maybe be in regular forts or in skelly fleets.

  • Totally agree CoF should return to FoF.
FotD can have its own rare treasure as the Skeleton Fort can have its own as well.

  • I think it is fun that Rare rotates the CoF through different world events. However the loot in the FoF could be boosted with some more of the "normal" loot to keep it a valid option.

Also, as someone already said, moving the CoF helps to make old places "interesting" again.
