Season 10

  • I wanna hear about what you enjoy from season 10 so far.

Changes, features, experiences, cosmetics, whatever it may be. Big or small I'm happy to read 'em all.

I find myself very much enjoying the rowboat changes. I love that they are in adventure now and it gives me another thing to look for and look forward to. I enjoy everything about them in season 10.

I enjoy thinking about all of the QoL that has been added/improved while sailing around over the years/seasons. I remember sailing around with a nameless sloop and no cosmetics just scavenging for anything I could find/sell, so much less to do, so much less QoL in the session to session experience. Always enjoyed it and now it's easy to appreciate how far the game has come. The day to day experience still feels like SoT to me and I enjoy that.

+1 for rowboats. Lots of great QoL. Friends returning to the game to sail with. I'm finally getting around to getting my gold curse after 5 years, and it's giving my guild at least a smidge of rep in the process.

  • I really like having another pun on my ship in writing.

  • I have a purple rowboat now. 🥰

Also new season. It's nice to have the numbers get bigger at a brisk pace again.

I love their current RNG for them

I feel like it's perfect as it is

It's fun to replace them from time to time depending on my mood.

Season 7-10 have been so great for individuality. Such a difference to load into a server now and have that personal experience while getting ready for adventure.

  • I like the rowboats.

I love the 2x stoves because by habit I always buy some meat.

This seasons renown rewards are nice, wearing the monocle and the wind vane on the capstan is a nice touch.

The guilds of course was a failure.

  • @foambreaker

I don't think a failure. Geez look at all the 'join mah guild" threads. Been holding off on playing for the Ghoul and Gory weekend tho lol.

  • @pithyrumble Did you also notice the people asking for a list of who contributed the most? They want that so they can kick the people who are not working enough out. 😟

The grind made guilds a high pressure deal, instead of a chilled group.

The extra stove is a big win. It's unfortunate it cost a trinket spot but the stove is not only great for efficiency but also for duo sloops that are more into a casual or even RP kind of style of play. These kinds of qol features are huge for a lot of people in this game.

Oh yeah. I've already seen the guild toxicology I expected to see. Gotta find the right one.

  • @foambreaker
I'm sorry about your initial experience! I'm not sure if you'd be interested, but you're welcome to join our guild! (It's called the "Skull Island Outlaws") I can promise you that we don't expect anyone to "pull their weight" or anything like that because I wouldn't stand it. We're collectively working towards Level 15 right now, but we have the "We'll get there when we get there" mentality. (I would also extend the same invite to @WolfManbush and @PithyRumble as well; we have plenty of room!)

  • I really love loot scooping and dual stoves. Takes me back to when you could siphon supplies with the storage crate. I love that I have a rowboat saved to my sloop now (I just wish you could change the color from presets once docked).

I'm ignoring the whole double gunning discussion because I have always played sword and pistol, so I feel great about that becoming the meta for a bit.

I will also say that players like us appreciate the QoL changes even more so because we remember a rougher, more tedious time.

yeah for me as a solo that only plays organically it's just constantly a part of my perspective. I've just played through it all for such a significant amount of time I don't often see things how some see things in the feedback areas. They have made so many improvements to QoL that really worked together in the last few seasons as well as making so many improvements with risk/reward and pvp scenarios.

I'll often see people talk about different times they preferred to be a part of but to me this game is always the best it's been right now, as far as overall organic and casual adventure experience goes.

Such an incredible experience to have been a part of and to be a part of.

  • I'm enjoying the aim assist for controller.

I'm enjoying the aim assist for controller.

for pvp specifically or in general?

Personally I am glad they offer options to improve the controller experience for some. I think it will help a lot of people feel a bit more comfortable/competitive in the experience.

  • @wolfmanbush
I have yet to try it with pvp. I'm sure it will help level the playing field somewhat. It's good that its not an overwhelming boost and you still have to have skill to be competitive.

  • I try to enjoy the games these days the way it's meant to be played. I do enjoy Sea of Thieves a lot, but I have completed a lot I wanted. The only current goal I have that I actually want to achieve, is get another 30 Chests of Fortune.

So now the captain voyages for skulls gone/broken
Larina still sells 1 ritual per month.
The voyage from pirate lord is 300 doubloons.

So this game does not really want me to 'start a world event' each time I log in, the game wants me to 'grind' for doubloons and then grind the fort. Really a lot of effort is going into limiting my choices in game. I mean I get it if I could make 500 doubloons each time I play, but this is not the case. Why make life in game harder?

I'm just wondering, what is the purpose of 1000 guild levels or even 100 when the progress is so slow. We did in 4 days more than I have achieved in my first year maybe 2. And we are level 5. So I hope new pirates will appreciate their 'fundamental' level 3 by 2024 summer..( I will make sure to remind them if they post here that they have at least 97 more to their first distinction.....So I am just trying to figure out the logic behind these changes against players, it's not like we have anything new to do and why everything recent is a grind/chore to a point where it defies logic and is not fun.

I've already been critical of the guild design in other threads so I am not gonna do it here but to the point of new players, fun, and pirate life in general I try to create an example of individuality and independence within gameplay.

I go through moments, days, and even occasionally weeks where I'm trying to figure out how I am going to approach a season or content or even if I can adapt as needed to still enjoy the experience in a way where I remain optimistic and helpful to others while finding ways to enjoy my time.

I haven't really gotten into new content since I adapted to Captaincy. Didn't grind Hg, didn't grind cofs, not grinding guilds, still finding ways to create rewarding scenarios though.

I want to see new players succeed in their goals but more than that I want to see them do their own thing in this game, expressing themselves through piratical style, far beyond just grinding content or unlocking rewards. People can tell their story here in their own way, I wanna see more of that. I'm hoping that all of the content succeeds in season 10 so that improved retention leads to more storytelling through gameplay.

  • I would say the reliability of sword blocking and keeping the advantage during a combo is the best thing so far about s10.

Controller aim assist is the second best thing. I recommend turning hipfire rotational aim assist way down.

The skull of siren song voyage looks a little intimidating for a solo slooper main lol but it wouldn’t be that way if solo players were put on servers with other solos by default while keeping the option to play on servers with full crews if desired.

This is one of multiple examples over time that show an improvement with issues like this.

Acknowledging an issue that popped up, communicating that they are working on it, and taking a clear stance.

In my view this goes a long way in the community. Many of us are already aware that they are always working on things behind the scenes but this helps maintain morale, imo.

  • In the game menu, I accepted the invitation to the guild, but after a few seconds I was expelled from it. Please tell me, is this a system error or not? As far as I know, there are no restrictions for joining the guild.

  • @wolfmanbush They'll probably delete or reset the guild but I'd be surprised if they ban anyone, which means absolutely nothing.

The least they should do is give the members a few weeks of yellowbeard and reset their guild commendations and hourglass progression back to zero.

Removing progress is at least something.

I wouldn't be surprised if they do go beyond that for accounts that are found to have done this to an extreme degree.

  • @wolfmanbush

I really like the guilds. I made one and I'm trying to get more members but it's a process. I'm also excited for the PvP changes, but they're coming in November. I also like that rowboats save to your ships, but I don't like that they made it to where if you sink with a rowboat. It won't be saved to your ship anymore, it's stupid.

I wouldn't get too frustrated over losing the rowboat.

All of the good boy rowboats I've lost have been just because of saving issues, not sinking.

The cool part is that the rng is high enough to see the arena rowboats regularly so it's not a big deal, just an opportunity to find another one and replace one.

I was a bit frustrated to lose my first to a saving issue but after that now I just see it as time to find a new one.

  • Again... can burn 2x the meat. But on a sloop, could we switch the barrel sit point for another trinket since the stove one was lost?

Sit points need to be deleted except for the commendation required ones lol.

    Is it twice the fire?

I stopped cooking a long time ago, every piece of shark cost me a boat.

  • @pithyrumble

I forgot there's more stoves on ships now

  • I like the guild system for what it is : giving a sense of collective purpose to our play group.

That being said, it doesn't offer something new to do so I hope they expand on it further. :)

  • I don't really use rowboats any more but being able to get the color that matches my ship is nice. But now I am struggling with it feeling like a temporary ship cosmetic. I finally got a while one which looks great but now if I hourglass or sink and lose it? Would have been better if we all have rowboats at the start of each session even if we sunk last time. And finding the different colors commendation just unlocked the ability to save that color to your new spawns rowboat. I am feeling overly attached to a feature I rarely even use any more lol

For me playing with a friend and not losing captaincy status if I have to afk for a bit is amazing. It used to ruin long sessions if we would lose captaincy status. Though since my guild is small only 6 members maybe adding 2 more in the future and only 2 others play and not frequently this 1000 level grind is going to be rough. I think the guild achievements are the worst ones they ever added. Worse than the ones they nerfed back in year 1 of "sell 1000 castaway chests" it's weird they keep adding these insanely long grinds as an attempt of player retention. I get guild play is meant for large active groups but it shouldn't be punishing to smaller groups. I think the grind would be intense even for a full active 24 person guild.

The bulk of the positive changes weren't even mentioned in their youtube videos which is really odd. I thought they were holding these features back to try and hype up s10 more since Guilds is really kinda shallow. Instead they were just like "Yea here's your in game friends list, that's it. Season10 everyone!" I had wondered for months how they were going to PR spin s10 and the reality of... They just aren't. They talked about the idea behind the feature and glossed over anything factual or fun. Like they didn't state how the emissary functioned, if selling to reapers progresses your guild rep slower since its a competing faction. It appears to be 33% slower? base off 1 quick little minimal effort gem test

I saw a goonies guild the other day and I think that's pretty much exactly who will benefit the most (in a substantive way) from guilds

the groups that have been friends for quite some time, have bonded over the sea and all the different happenings and changes that they have worked through together

the grind and design aside I think that's where guilds will likely shine for people on an individual level. An in game feature to acknowledge the friendships that some have brought here and/or formed here along the way.

I don't really see it as a situation where they gotta spin anything about season 10 for PR

At worst they just don't get as much attachment for guilds early on (that could change later)

the pvp content coming up will be something to do and add to the environment and the side effect will be that pvers have even less pressure on them

safer seas will be popular and in general the holiday season has more people playing the game, which helps high seas.

People loved this game when there was barely anything to do in it and when everything revolved around extracting a bit of loot out of one spot. Now that there is so much for people to do and a wide variety of ways to play/enjoy the game they don't have to spin anything really.

Season 10 has a bit of something for most people, even if not directly from the content people still benefit from the effects of the content, as well as more qol being a part of the sessions.

  • Now that I am back to selling a bit for the new ledgers I have had the chance to enjoy pac-man feature for treasure convenience

Awesome feature, love that it opens and closes.

So many convenience features that have been added since season 7 that make overall play and specifically solo play more pleasant.

In my style of play I have been seeing a lot of FotD activity and stacking so there appears to be solid interest and activity there.

For me the server performance has improved in the last week or so.

As always, I love the new ledger rewards, they are always such appealing designs imo. Merchant cosmetics are so great imo.
