Customisable Rowboats

I have seen this and I’ve seen they’re going to stay on your ship but it’s not the same as being able to pick the colour of your own rowboat and I think if you could buy them from the outpost it would even the playing field in hourglass and pvp in general because if one duo sloop has an extra cannon the other should too without having to spend an hour looking for one with a cannon.

These shipwrights can make ships I don’t think it’s too unrealistic that they could possibly know how to make rowboats too.

It should spawn with some loot just like they do as well making it easier to gather a few cursed cannonballs.

I think if they add auto row and a name rowboat option as a Captaincy feature it would be awesome for QoL

I used to be against starting rowboats back when risk/reward was much different but there is so much content and people are doing enough different things to where it would be great now, as a part of Captaincy.

Having the option to customize the good boy rowboat would be awesome.

I am super in on wanting auto row added these days. I think it's huge for accessibility and for QoL without really being an issue for risk/reward because of how different the environment is now.

So basically, you walk up to the shipwright and exchange 10,000 gold for a shiny new rowboat with a cannon/harpoon/sail? and whatever lantern and hull you have equipped in the rowboat customisation chest (inside the ship customisation chest) and it spawns right there on the back of your ship, or if you don’t have a ship and that’s why you need a rowboat it spawns on the dusty unused rowboat docking station perfectly situated next to the shipwright as the new rowboat spawn station location.

How does this not improve the game in every way?

And maybe the rowboat skins you find naturally should not be purchasable from the shipwrights/emporium so there’s still a reason to go around collecting wild rowboats, maybe you could even collect the wild skins.

I don't see buying as a good option since you can lose it 5 minutes later in a sinking.

IF, big if, the rowboats were permanent, then yes, I would have liked to see us be able to buy skins in Emporium to match the hull of the ship. But they can't really charge $$ for something you can lose so quickly.

Yeah but you lose all your loot every time you get sunk just like the rowboat and it’s not much different from buying a crate of cannonballs, and the fact a cannon rowboat is an advantage like you say is the reason it should be easily accessible to everyone.

Another good reason is that if they cost 10k at the outpost when you find a wild one you will feel 10k better off. Everyone loves free stuff right. This would make all rowboats feel more valuable.

I think you’re wrong the rowboats can’t be sold they’re not real treasure and they put you at a strategical advantage in hourglass so if someone wants to log in and play a few games they shouldn’t have to spend hours finding a suitable rowboat I thought this game was all about how everyone should be on a level playing field and upgrades are just cosmetic. It makes more sense that rowboats should be made at outposts than magically appear all over the place and I think it would add loads more gameplay options like if you were stranded at an outpost and maybe didn’t want to go back to your ship yet and you need a way to go get that treasure you left behind before it sinks to the depths or make one last stand to go after and sink that ship that just sunk your ship, it would be loads more fun admit it.

If you have to pay 10k for it then you had to go out into the ocean and find that 10k so I don’t see why that should matter that’s just like going out and finding a cannon rowboat.

I’m not suggesting that every time you respawn you should be sat in a cannon rowboat I’m saying you should be able to exchange your hard earned gold for one.

@tesiccl What if I’m just a humble fisherman trader who goes from outpost to outpost selling commodities and I’ve never seen a rowboat but I’ve got tons of gold to buy one because I’ve spent plenty of time out in the world making the gold that I want to exchange for the rowboat?

@tesiccl do you not agree that all upgrades should be cosmetic like an extra cannon on your ship and on my hourglass statement that it would make it more balanced because you’re probably going to get sunk eventually and the rowboat destroyed but if you like to play with a cannon rowboat that means investing loads of time “upgrading” your boat again to get setup but thats just a tedious task and could be more fun, I think the more stuff you can buy with gold like rowboats and crates etc. the better so there’s more reason to go out and earn more gold. You could look at it a bit like repairing your ship but it’s just the tiny little ship on the back of your ship that you’re repairing or replacing. I think there’s loads of reasons it would be better if you could buy one on demand from the outpost just one of them being you could have it match your ship. Maybe it would be even better if as well as being able to buy them for 10k you could sell them for 5k so you could actually make a living stealing peoples rowboats. Rare need to hear my ideas.
