Guilds Subcategory in Forum

  • As someone who finds big discords a bit too overwhelming and hard to keep up with, I just wanna try clarify if this forum will get a Guilds Subcategory for the sake of recruitment posts.

The upcoming Guilds feature really appeals to me but I doubt I have enough active friends playing this game to warrant me trying to make my own or see if any of them plan to. So, as a result, I find myself really open to the idea of looking at recruitment posts so I may join a growing guild, become a more active player, contribute to said guild and make new friends.

I would imagine this would be a no-brainer but didn't want to assume. So instead I'll just ask...
So, Rare...is this gonna be a thing?
P.S. I hope ye found my input on guild hideouts interesting 😉

  • It would be cool to have a guild-forum too. But that could also end up being bad for the community.

  • I sure hope so, I also am looking forward to guilds and would like to see recruitment here.

    Discord blows chunks 🤮

I don't see how there could be any downside to this.

  • 'allo!

So our plan IS to find an area of the Forums that can assist people with recruiting for and looking for guilds however, due to the responsibility we have to our players to ensure these spaces are safe we are currently looking into the best way to do this using our forum system.

As such, there will not be anything in place this week when Guilds launch and players should please respect that it may take a few weeks to come in and that anyone recruiting etc will have their post deleted under current forum rules.

I am hoping to build something out in the following weeks and will launch it once we're happy that it can't be abused and is a safe and secure way for players to find each other.

I know it's frustrating that it won't be ready for launch but I will do what I can to try and make sure it's in place for the ledgers launching at the start of November

  • @j0toro Thank you for the insight. Good to have a heads up of the intent and the wait. I look forward to making use of it.

Thank you in advance of this also!

  • @j0toro I guess I can see how players might lie, but I don't see how you can prevent that?

Since most games that have guilds, have a recruitment forum, you might be overthinking it 😉

The big rule you need is "how often can you bump a recruitment thread".

I'd suggest reading the forums rules from other games that have this...

  • @foambreaker I think part of the issue is that with guilds comes hierarchy and that allows for abuse because people will abuse any power they can.

  • @crowedhunter Oh I was thinking of a simple forum where people can just make a recruitment post with no real integration into the guilds themselves.

If guilds want to have their own forums for private discussion then they should use Discord or one of the other guild websites.

  • @foambreaker It's still almost smaller than that. But that's probably a good thing.
I don't think these things go super well in my experience.

  • Weirdly enough, I do actually play games and am very much aware of how other spaces run their forums for recruitment but we have a duty of care to our players in line with the Microsoft Code of Conduct - it's why we don't allow recruitment on our Forums any more.

While it may appear that we are over-thinking it, trust me, having seen some of the stuff people try to direct people towards, player safety will always be top of our minds, especially in a game that has a high percentage of children, families and vulnerable players.

Dropping anchor as you now have an answer as to how we will be handling Guilds.
