As myself and alot of other player have noticed. There is no way to dock your ship without it moving besides sails up, anchor down than anchor back up. while this works it gets very annoying at some outposts that the boat doesn't sit up to evenly making it hard to unload loot. having a simple rope system to anchor your boat to a dock would be awesome. Why is there not a crouch option? the game movement is very good and adding this would add another aspect to pvp that is missing.

One word: teabagging
If you are looking for a way to unload loot and dont have a captain ship yet, i recommend stacking all loot on the bow, checking horizon real fast to make sure no one is near, and if its safe, drift in and nose the dock with the sails mostly but not all the way up, that way it will hold against the dock. If you do this you can quickly grab and drop all loot onto the dock, then when done raise sails and pull your ship out, then go start selling.
This is how many, my self included used to sell loot before captaincy was introduced.

Raise sails and wait for it to stop.... a lot of players dont need to drop anchor

Be smart, aim the front of the ship at the Dock and boom, you got a walk on and walk off platform.

Hehehe. Ill be sure to sink your "docked' ship and prevent you from leaving :D

But why? What the purpose?
I dock my ship perfectly at like every outpost. Pretty fast too.
Daggertooth is the only one I really won't ever use bc the dock is so long. But even that one can be docked at even though it's kinda jank. Ancient Spire also has a little too much wood beam at the end of it but you can use sovereign to get aligned easily. No matter where you're docking, it's all in the approach. You either wanna be perfectly parallel or perpendicular. If you bank off it just slightly as you're stopping, you'll be almost touching it. Honestly, I dock closer than the game spawns you. I would still dock manually if they automated it.
Galleon's Grave and Morrow's Peak are great for learning to dock or doing fast anchor tap docks.
Also, I just remembered that Sovereign docks are all basically the same dock so that would be even better to practice on. They're especially appropriate height for brig and galleon.

When you get a captained ship and are using Sovereigns you will be a happy camper!
