Additional Ships in Safer Seas.

  • I'll be honest. I, as a PvE enjoyer, am totally fine with all the negatives applied to Safer Seas, if I want anything specific Ill just jump onto the High Seas and grind for a bit. But I can't help but feel as though there's a waste of potential here with the Safer Seas.

Safer Seas as I see it is designed to be an extended tutorial for new players, and a sandbox for experienced players, at the cost of the usual rewards gained from playing the game being greatly nerfed or outright removed. But as an extended tutorial there is something missing for what is a giant part of the game's identity, PvP. I SUCK at PvP and its the main reason why I rarely play anymore. However, if there was the ability for me to practice my PvP on the Safer Seas, I feel like I would be willing to jump onto the High Seas more willingly.

Now I'm not saying "Safer Seas should be removed", what I AM saying is there should be the ability to invite players into your session and provide them with their own ship, and allow ships to take damage as is normal in the High Seas. At the other side of the coin, Any PvP related commendations should be disabled, You gain nothing from killing other players or sinking ships. Having other ships and a larger player cap is used solely for practicing PvP, or screwing around with a larger friend group. That's it.

Having this added does more than just provide the ability to practice PvP though! Consider, You and a bunch of friends could play a bunch of different and varying mini-games together with the additional ships! Team Death Match, Sure! Manhunt, Sure! Hide and Seek, Sure! It would add that extra spark that I feel was missing from Safer Seas when it was announced.

  • If you really want to improve your PvP the best way would be to go to High Seas and try your best.

You need to actually fight other crews to improve yourself. I really recommend you to load in a server, pick some supplies and set sail without a Reaper emissary. Try by yourself or with a crew to look for other ships and fight without any fear of the final result. While fighting be self aware of how are you steering, how is your sail and your cannon gameplay. With those 3 basic things you have 90% of the work done in terms of PvP. If you are aware of what are you doing and improve it you will be competent in no time.

Then just take the right decissions on when to board, when to drop their masts, etc.

Just don't rush, be patient and everything will happen.

  • @capt-pilotes
That's really useful advice for me, but it might not be applicable for other players, hence the idea of additional ships in Safer Seas.

Granted, High Seas are better option for learning the finer points of PvP, I can't deny that, but it's also filled with people who have a tendency to be salty and toxic, something I and many others would rather avoid. Safer Seas with ships allows us to learn the muscle memory, and the finer points of cannon aiming and mast dropping and so on and so forth.

Still, when I play next I'll take your advice at heart. Thanks! :D

  • This would defeat the purpose of Safer Seas for the vast majority it is designed to help. What you propose, should be another option named - Mild Seas or something (obviously as a joke ^^)

As Capt Pilotes mentioned, just plan to go on Higher seas and practice PVP there, if you are constantly encountering toxic players and you just want to practice skills, disable voice and text chats and you won't get any of it. Maybe a few Rolls on deck laughing but that's not toxic, just annoying imo.

Besides, if you would go up against someone unskilled, you would never improve. If you are just talking about your own ability to get around the ship, use cannons, sail, repair etc, I can honestly advice to participate in as many Fleets and Flameheart events as possible and fight every single skeleton ship in sight and do the OOS fleets voyages. Even if you are solo and you see a skeleton Galleon, don't be afraid to sink as it will happen, but just remember that it will surely help you to be more efficient and understand your ship better.

I was thinking the same. A great idea would be to be able to add the players in your guild to the game your playing and their ships. That would be a blast. Pun intended.

  • Haha...Not even released and the Restrictions SS has already being questioned and wanting change.

Players want a place to just Pve, they got it. But now realizing they can't pvp (practice)...they want more 'friends' to join them on this lonely sea world.

But here the thing. Fighting your friends vs fighting untrusted person are two different things. How do you practice? Best practice is jump into the deep end of the pool.

  • you can go hourglass - the matchmaking system is designed to rank you with players of more or less even skill.
Be it unintenionally, but you touched a mayor point: PvE Servers.
What you are asking for is essentially: Being able to play with friends in safe waters. Thats PvE server with multiple ships basically.
And this is not going to happen. There are not going to be PvE Servers in the game.

  • Nothing is static as some players think , Rare made it clear. People should wait SS to be released , play it or not and then complain...or not.

You can learn all the basics except boarding by doing skeleton ships. It is perfect the way it is.

  • I'm for this. People use punching bags all the time. So if a literal dead weight can help people train, so can someone of their skill level. I would even argue that it's more beneficial than fighting against someone you can't keep up with.

If they disable alliances and commendations, then what's the big deal?

If they never add it though, Hourglass is a great way to practice PVP and actually have a bit of matchmaking to even the odds.

  • @foambreaker You can def learn boarding from skelly ships. Easiest way to sink a galleon. But you can't break their masts or learn to death circle.

  • @crowedhunter I didn't include boarding because whacking skeletons is so easy compared to players.

  • @foambreaker I meant more like the very basic stuff like paying attention to the water and holes and stuff. focusing on cannons if you're on the broadside.

(Unless it's the specific case of a clueless player vs a tanky skeleton)

  • I completely agree. Most replies I've seen have focused on improving at PvP, but I think it would be a great idea just to allow for larger groups of people to play together. I've had times when myself and my friends wanted to play together but have had to split up into 2-3 different ships on different servers. We talked about how fun it would be to just sail on the seas as a little fleet and just mess around with no goal, maybe fight each other and maybe stack some loot. I know this is possible with server hopping and I agree it would be not fair to have this as an option for regular servers as then alliances would bully the servers and would suck for solo players. But as an option in safer seas, I think would be really fun.
