Is open world pvp is dead?

  • Hi! Returning player here.
I've just played Sea of Thieves today since season five, and after looking up what does the hourglass do, I wonder if open world pvp is dead, since everyone who wants to do pvp, just queue up and that's it. In my 3 hour game session I've seen 1 ship. So, is it just me, or pvp in open world doesn't exist anymore?

  • Ask the crew that sunk me this past Saturday evening.

  • @owlim nope see a ship sink a ship but hourglass is for two curses if you want them or just to find a pvp instead of chasing a crew down

  • The servers are still busy, though it can depend on your region and what time of day you sail at in terms of what you can expect. Hourglass' impact on the servers is far less that it was during the peak of Season Eight, far fewer players are doing that mode due to a number of reasons.

In a similar length session I had today, I saw every ship on the server. Mostly brigs and sloops, though a galleon logged in just as I was ending. I was sailing around the whole map though as I was looking for shipwrecks, and that makes a big difference.

If you see a Reaper's Chest/Bounty, there are at least 3 ships on the server. But, unless you are sailing in the middle of the night, servers are never "dead" - even then, you'll get server merges to move you to more populated ones.

  • Its far from dead, hourglass is for people looking to just fight and thats it. Most pvp is not just for the sake of fighting, but to steal loot or to remove a threat. So the main reason people fight is still VERY prevalent.

  • Turn off console/controller preferred and go do a FoF.

Funny I just seen three posts about how players are tired of

    • Campers at Outposts
    • Players sinking them everywhere they go
  • I think there's been a large influx of players who want absolutely nothing to do with other players and will scuttle on sight. They'll probably be gone after Safer Seas. So don't worry, you'll be back to having another ship approaching every two minutes in just a few months.

  • @owlim

it will come back, for the moment there is a bug with the SKULL OF DESTINY, and as usual it is not corrected quickly, the fix will arrive with the additions of the game... so you have to be patient

  • Hide your name/ship name and throw on sails that would peak interest, arena/HG/giveaway items/no longer around sails/charity sails

you'll get attacked quite often because pvpers will think you are a content creator
