Larinna has a thing where you use Doubloons to buy Gold, so maybe buying Doubloons with Gold would help if a player were to purchase a Ashen Voyage, Skull of Destiny or Legend of the Sunken Kingdom Voyage from her.
Purchasing Doubloons won't give you a lot, if the value given would be probably 25 or 50 and would require a good amount of Gold to use.

I do wish they’d add it back, especially now that they are making doubloons useful again.
Doubloons are useful again and I understand why you are asking this. However, those are cosmetics from other seasons and they are not cheap for that reason. If you want them the only possible way is to sell Reaper Chests or do World Events that reward with ashen chests. Is going to be grindy but is a price to pay if you were not playing during the season itself.

I do get this perspective, for sure, but I also see adding the option back as a way for people who have played a long time to convert some of their gold to something else. We talk about “gold sinks” quite often as those of us who are in the thousands of hours played have hundreds of millions of gold, even after purchasing everything. Everyone in my crew owns every cosmetic and trinket currently in the game, but the one with the least amount of gold is currently at 140million. They have all the seasonal items and so don’t need doubloons for those, but the new pirate legend voyages cost doubloons and it would be useful to be able to convert some of that gold to doubloons to purchase them if they run out. Admittedly the lowest of us in doubloons right now is 4k and that’s the same person already mentioned. Personally I have 40k doubloons, but I’d still like the option to covert some of my gold to doubloons, if not to do anything other than visually change the numbers and make me feel less like a gold hoarder 🤣

I don't remember that at all :).
The exchange rate should be bad enough to offset the bonus you get from Community Day and Gold Rush turning in doubloons for gold.
But I don't think they should do this at all - besides the 25 you get from a Reaper chest that are a plenty, a crew can do a Skeleton Fleet which gives you ashen chests (with most of the time some doubloons worth in it as well), ashen keys and ritual skulls - plenty of doubloons to get.
Do some quests from killed random captains for gifts or vanquish ashen key masters or the ones that give you a riddle to an ashen chest quest.
Doing the 100 levels each Season for renown also returns doubloons for just playing the game.
For newer players, they still can get doubloons for doing some of the Bilge rat things.
Or be nice to people who still need their gifts turned in 😁.
People just shouldn't have exchanged all or most of their doubloons for gold.

Ain’t that the truth! I held onto my doubloons as I’m the type to believe eventually something good will come, but I know tons and tons of people who exchanged them every gold and glory or community day, especially back when gold rush bonus was still active on those days.
And yeah, doubloons aren’t hard to come by, it’s more that it would just be nice to have the opposite exchange still available. Currently you get the exchange rate of doubloons to gold at 25=2500 35=5000 50=10000 and they could do it so it penalizes you to exchange it back, just like a normal bank where 2500=10 5000=20 10000=40 or it could be where it costs twice the gold to covert back to doubloons, so 5000=25 10000=35 20000=50 then I’d have to spend 1million gold to get 2500 doubloons, which would only be enough for one or two of the seasonal items or 25 skull of destiny voyages.
