Don’t nerf Hunters Call to 30% in Safer Seas, leveling Hunters Calls essentially is just sitting in one spot for hours catching fish. Making Safer Seas level Hunters Call at 100% would make the long boring experience less stressful for the player by not having them worry about other ships. It would ensure that everyone on the High Seas servers are actually getting loot and fighting other players instead of having players just sit at a Sea Post for hours.
Hunters Call in Safer Seas
@smashemerald you’re not supposed to sit in Safer Seas forever. If you choose to do that, you’re taking the penalty for doing so.
In a way i agree and disagree. What i would suggest is keep the rep lowered(as much as it hurts me saying that), but at 60 percent of original rep earned, but remove the rank 40 cap. Fishing is probably the third hardest thing to do in sot, after fotd and fof. I cant recall how many times i have been attacked while fishing for pondies, then sunk and losing 2 full crates of fish. And that's before i learned that its apparently bad manners to attack people fishing. Seems 8/10 people don't get that memmo. And yes i have told the attackers i was just fishing, and to take any keys or treasure i might have had. And aside from the screetching 12 year olds using basic slurs(which is funny imo, its something about that high pitched voice trying to be aggressive) or people actually being toxic, seeking me out after i respawn. I have yet to meet a person just going "understandable, have a nice day".
@tesiccl I’m Pirate Legend and have already beat all the Tall Tales I’m not looking to hang out in Safer Seas all day. I just think that giving a dedicated place to fish would be a smart move due to how awful leveling Hunters Call is and how someone leveling Hunters Call is essentially someone wasting space on the server.
@flanders3512 it’s not hard it’s just slow and mind numbing that’s why it should be put in a spot where they aren’t effecting the rest of the server.
@smashemerald any activity in the game is a risk vs reward experience, that includes fishing. If you want to make it less tedious, fish in High Seas. I think it’s obvious they don’t want players in Safer Seas, it goes against their vision, but they had to provide the endless spam of “PvE servers when” with some reprieve.
@smashemerald Not hard yes, annoying when you lose about 300 fish you spent hours farming, also yes. Im rank 47 in hunters call, i know just how slow it is, and the biggest bump when farming for it is other people. Which was my main point. Not here to start a pvp vs pve war like in any other thread discussing safer seas so yea. Them's my 2 cents. And gl fishing to any aspiring pirates.

Your doing the hard part. You can find more fish by checking ship wrecks :P
Making Safer Seas level Hunters Call at 100% would make the long boring experience less stressful for the player by not having them worry about other ships
With no fear and stress to worry about, why give them 100%? They will bypassing 8/10 of the hardship, the rest should be difficult.
Frankly, Players are farming these factions instead of just..Playing. Natural flow of gameplay and collecting every barrel, fishing between sailing islands and grinding. You be surprised how much quicker you lvl up when your not stressing yourself and solo focusing it.
I just think that giving a dedicated place to fish would be a smart move due to how awful leveling Hunters Call is
And..your doing it the hard way...We dont need a dedicated Place.
@flanders3512 There's a magical spot at Devil's ridge toward the north-west you can fit your sloop in. It's very close to the pond as well. People always come straight into the bay to attack, then they get confused when the island skeleton starts hitting them with the accuracy of a black ops sniper bc they're so close and slow. Then you just sail forward slightly and you can either burst through the gap in the cape at full speed while they recover or get a free sink by halting in the bay. You might get hit a little, but they're almost certain to sink before they can do anything unless they chose to run.
It's the only spot in the game I enjoy being attacked at. Because it's basically a free victory against a full stack of murder hobos that think they're sharks and you can just show them that you've got bigger fish to fry without breaking a sweat.
Somewhat off topic, but that should help you get your pondies in like two days tops.
@smashemerald touch wood they release some kind of voyage in the next seasons with an emissary grade or something, I know Rare doesn't want whaling bit hunter's call is the closest thing we'll get to that and hunting Megalodon, Kraken amd any future beasties would be a good way to go about it.
@smashemerald when you fish, you leave your view (while the fish is on the line) centred and you’re not able to look around you for danger. I’d call that a risk wouldn’t you?
@smashemerald i agree with this as fishers would not be wasting a slot on high seas for more active users win /win

There are plenty of slots.
If anything they should lower the max rep for HC on SS because it doesn't make sense to be the same as the factions that go to 75 when HC only goes to 50.
@flanders3512 When I fish I never get interrupted because I scuttle my ship. The problem is that you’d ship is a “Come here and Investigate” beacon. As long as you have a storage crate you don’t need your ship. I have even used a rowboat to move between islands so I can’t be seen easily.
I have also soloed a sea forts so I can use the 4 pot stove. I have noticed if it’s just 1 person the sea forts are ridiculously easy
I have been interrupted by fishing too but only when my ship is visible. My advice, sit at a Sea Post and scuttle your ship. You can even get the Skull of Destiny and start up the FOTD for battlegills. Just fish on the back side of the island as close to the cliff as possible on a rowboat.
Remember to scuttle your ship while fishing. It will help!
@coffeelight5545 Reason #953408707582349078502475820937 to make the mermaid only show up if you are actually swimming.
@crowedhunter I know, its where i used to fish, however mr skeleton refuses to work with me and just lets ships pass without even firing once. There's another place in the "pve zone" as some on this forum call it. A small island in the devil's roar. Can't remember the name but its far enough away from volcanoes.
@smashemerald why not just make everything 100%? If you see a legendary hunter right now you think "man ok that guy is a pve lord, i mean maybe he isnt as dedicated as an og hunter who had to dig up bait and actually identify fish on a line but he is still a legend" Soon you will see hard to get pve titles and think "hurray for the PvE kid"
They are trying to make this a tutorial period not a way to get around actually playing the game.
Fishing is spelled out as one of the reasons to play in Safer Seas, so Hunters Call being immune to reductions and restrictions would make sense. Reducing gold or reputation you earn makes no sense. In High Seas, you can pull up to an Outpost. If someone is just fishing, cooking, and selling, then they have no loot. If that's communicated to people who approach, and it's made clear that there's no good reason to attack them (because attacking them would be solely designed to target or upset them), it's not okay per the Sea of Thieves Code of Conduct:
Any activity you engage in that is solely designed to target and upset another player or crew constitutes bullying.
So why have people who want to fish in the High Seas when the Safer Seas actually makes more sense? Sure, we could argue that the first time you see them you sink them because you don't trust them, or you're roleplaying. But if they return to an Outpost, park up there, possibly even raising the Offer Alliance flag, and you see them again, then you already know there's no value, or good, in attacking them, and, more importantly, if they're a Captained ship, you know it's the same ship. They're PvEing, you know who they are, and what you're doing, and you'd be walking into attacking them with no game-based benefits to you. So after they get sunk a few times, if we're foollowing the CoC, they should be being left alone (at which point they're 'not playing the main game', so why pretend otherwise?). Since fishing is part of the game, but in such a way that it's removed from 'the main game' (PvEvP), it makes sense to me that restricting progression from it would be somewhat counter -productive.
As to processing power and overheads, someone fishing alone in the Safer Seas only requires the server to process that area. Presumably Rare don't tick every zone when the zone, or adjacent zones, are empty, and can set world event availability without people being there (to say nothing of PvE triggers which only need to check for boats in the zone you're in, and if you're in port then they shouldn't be ticking). So it's probably cheaper to have instances of people fishing outside of High Seas.

Isn't the maximum set to 6 ships and 17 players? So a sloop fishing alone somewhere is 1/6th of the server's ships. Yes, only 1/17th of the players, but if you're actually worried about the impacts on the PvEvP server gameplay loop, then if the player is fishing, as above, the CoC would suggest you're leaving them alone (or cruising for a report if you attack them 'just because'). Far better to not have them in the server so you can find 5 other ships, instead of 4.

The sloop can still be attacked so it is not a wasted slot.
@pithyrumble
Yeah, the monthly letters of recommendation will tick it up easy-peasy.My plan is to do my fishing for commendations in Safer Seas, even though I have hardly ever been attacked as a fisherman during this dry spell. (I too did gems and shipwrecks mainly, but then I needed to get specific and grind more.)
I fished far from any zone of interest. I did Pondies at Kraken's Fall. My ship was hidden along the darkest regions of Islands for my Isle-Hoppers. And where my line could look, I could spot enemies on approach. I even put down a OOS ghost fleet so it'd appear nearby and I could get a heads-up from them. xDSo while I understand people wanting full gold (ha, gold for fish?) and rep. I think you'll really just be fine with getting the commendations. I NEVER found my time spent on Hunter's Call being worth my time. But I'm a completionist, so down the rabbit-hole I went.
@subject-18-jord
Not if you're just turning in fish for commendations, thankfully.
Once you hit that number of cooked items, just don't waste your time on it.@subject-18-jord said in Hunters Call in Safer Seas:
@amendelwyr cooked gives more gold and rep
So does High Seas...
@subject-18-jord said in Hunters Call in Safer Seas:
@coffeelight5545 you need your ship for a stove
No you don’t, use a sea fort. Not only can you solo a sea fort it’s less obvious than a ship. No one is going to a dead sea fort if they don’t see a ship. Also it’s a bad idea to cook and fish. You run the risk of burning the fish.
A sea fort has 4 stoves. Fish for pondies at Hidden Springs Keep. Scuttle your ship and have a rowboat. After you’re finished, row to the nearest sea fort and clear it out. Cook all your fish and then row to North Star sea post. Boom! There is your Hunter Call reputation. Done on a captain ship will progress trinket milestones too
