Hourglass, xp gain change

  • A simple change for those who lost, receive half or 1/3 of the value of sequences when sunk.

    Receive 1 lv when sinking a champion.

    Not having this really seems pointless to me, it would give an incentive to do more streaks as their loss wouldn't be total and it would add value to sinking the champions.

    Their intention with the Allegiance gaining is to genuinely reward players who succeed through the challenges of PvP. The fact they reward losses at all is a blessing to those who struggle or have a bad day with the game's combat.

    You've GOTTA win those fights lad, as it is currently designed. The best players in the game had to do this, you're no exception.

    The road to the sea of the damned is paved with good intentions. Just because something is working as designed/intended, doesn't make it a fun and engaging ruleset to a wide spectrum of pirates.

    Functionality that is only fun for 3% of the player base will only be engaged by 3% of the player base. Just like arena when it was retired. I agree with the OP's premise: in order for hourglass to thrive as a game mode, it needs to appeal to a wider audience than the "best players in the game" that you're referencing. I may not agree with the mechanics they're suggesting, but participating needs to be more appealing to more pirates. Right now it does seem like only "the best players in the game" are the ones playing HG which is causing HG to collect dust for most pirates. Getting curb stomped every match is no fun.

  • @nex-stargaze I'm not asking for a defeat to have more xp, I'm asking for a defeat with STREAKS to give part of the xp that would be obtained by resetting the hourglass. half or a third would be good.

    The player would still have to win battles to have streaks, but it would give them more security to try to risk higher numbers, consequently increasing the number of champions.

  • @lordqulex Gaining Allegiance faster would not make HG more fun. It would probably make the feature less used because many people stop when they get the reward they want.

    The true success of the feature is to really make it more fun otherwise it is doomed to fail just like Arena.

    But it's also about the fun you had along the way. While I agree with your statement at face value, we also need to remember the psychological effect of positive memories. If people grind for the reward and think "man, that was miserable, glad I don't have to touch that again," then you're probably right. But if we make the initial rewards easier to achieve and less of a grind, there will be an equal number of people who think, "that wasn't too bad, maybe I'll stick with it a bit and see where it goes" past level 100.

    Rewards are fun for most people. Evolution wired our brains that way. Improve the rewards, it is true that some pirates will stop playing sooner if they're only in it for the rewards, but other pirates will have an improved experience and keep going with it. It's a balancing act.

  • @lordqulex Just adding more rewards to the lower levels would help. The Season tracks would probably also feel pretty terrible if you only got something at 100 renown, but because you're unlocking different things at frequent intervals it doesn't seem as bad.

    This is the road it is going. I would like to see the percentage that plays it atm. I honestly think HG is really boring. Circle and shoot. I really wish OG Arena was back. That was fun until Rare decided to change something that worked really well and was fun. The new one chest system caused the spawn camping or grab and run it was known for. Then the TDM side effect came in and also being able to res your pirate. All unneeded changes that werent asked for. I do believe HG will within the next 6 months to a year become the barren wasteland arena became after Arena 2.0 arrived
