Allow alliance flag to be set via the ship customization chest

  • I think we should allow the alliance flag to be able to be set while at port. When customizing the ship, there's a tab for the flag, but that flag promptly gets replaced when you climb the mast and offer an alliance. This functionality implies that the two are interchangeable, since it's either one or the other.

It would be nice to be able to set the alliance flag from the ship customization chest, rather than having to climb the mast. I'm a very friendly player and try to treat everyone kindly. The first thing I do every session is climb the mast and set the alliance flag. I've wished, since day one, that the flag were set-able from the customization chest.

Now that we have captained ships, we could take it to a whole other level by allowing the alliance flag to be saved to the ship, just like all the other customizations.
That would be my dream scenario. Haha

  • Eh. Mild nah. I mean.... I wouldn't...buuuut. Marge groan.

  • yeah I support this

alliances are a part of the game and people are free to do their thing.

This helps some and doesn't hurt anyone

  • @cramjambler can't hurt though I'd be curious to know how often you find it makes a difference

  • I would not want this, because:

    • if you don't allow duplicate colours: this would give you the option to see if there are already alliances on the server, since you can check for unavailable colours. Not only can this then be used to see if there are alliances or not, but it can also be used to hunt down streamers who are in an alliance, because with the combination of world event on that server and the unavailable alliance colour, you would know if you are in the same server as that streamer.
    • if you would allow duplicate colours: this would mislead people thinking someone is in their alliance while they are not. This could also lead to problems.

For this reason i don't think it's a good idea.

  • then were gonna have players who forget its up there and Unwanted alliances.

I may have worded my post incorrectly. I meant the alliance offering flag. The in-alliance flags should definitely only be obtained by accepting an alliance offering (functionality remaining the same as it currently is).
The flag I'm referring to is always the same color: white and red with a red heart in the white portion. This flag can be manually set by climbing the mast and selecting it, replacing your cosmetic flag.

    Alliance Offering

In the rare occasion of forgetting and someone accepting your alliance offering, you can just climb the mast and remove it / disband the alliance. Easy peasy.

To clarify, the flags should still be set-able by climbing the mast. I definitely would want that functionality to remain in the game.

  • @cramjambler I like this idea, right now there as 7 different available names for alliances and adding the colour co-ordination could be a neat little feature to distinguish un-customised from one another;
White with Red Heart - Offering an Alliance
    Blue - The Resolute Scallywags
Black - The Terrifying Powder Monkeys
Brown - The Fearless Soap Dodgers
    Green - The Spirited Landlubbers
    Yellow - The Undefeated Grog-Swiggers
    Grey - The Unstoppable Skinflints
    Purple - The Renowned Scoundrels

It doesn't feel that different than a Reaper logging on and checking all the emissary tables to see if there are any sailing in your server before raising a reaper emissary of your own and reaching grade 5 though

    This is a fair point
