Send Gifts from the Pirate Emporium to other players (friends)

  • good night!
I have an idea that I have been discussing for a long time with the friends I play with (who are getting more and more).
Is it possible that you enable an option in the Pirate Emporium, that when purchasing an item (whether paying with ancient coins or with money) you could give the option to "send as a gift"?
For example, my cousin who I usually play with, really wanted to have the item "spring floral fishing rod", and I would have liked to be able to buy it and send it to her account.
As an example, tell you that the Wargaming company that manages World of Tanks/Warships/Warplanes has that option in its Premium Store, that when you go to pay for the item it gives you the option to "send it as a gift" to any player on your friends list. .
I would really like you to value that option.
    thanks a lot!

  • Yeah it'd be cool if they added this option. Right now all you can do is gift from the Microsoft store. But you can't even gift ancient coins. Has to be one of the "bundles".

  • I play with kids sometimes and have wanted to buy them things and cannot.

I mean technically I canny them Microsoft gift cards, but that is not the same.

  • I think the fear here is a gold market for real world money like in WOW. Also I have more money than I can spend but a new player may want to buy a blunder pass to get those extra ancient coins to get the item. This is a income stream that RARE uses to keep the lights on and give us more content. Removing it would hasten the day when SOT is no longer supported. When that day comes I will be very sad, I hope they make servers open source so a few of us die hards can still host.

Since we are talking about the emporium how would that work?

Starting a bunch of alt accounts. Completing the season rewards (not plunder pass) & farming ancient skellies.

There is also side that RARE wants a large player base, part of that is people doing the grind and getting sunk by the likes of me! To be fair if I see a noob anchored with the sails down I no longer attack, too easy. I warn them THEN sink them of they act salty.

  • RARE may not want to lose the opportunity for people to continue spending money buying OLD COINS for real money, which is a form of income for them,
but they could set a maximum limit for giving gifts with old fashions obtained within the game (for example, not exceeding 500).
Going back to the example that I had proposed, my cousin wanted the spring floral fishing rod, which was 249 coins.

Using a bunch of alternate accounts you could in theory steal ancient coins this way. The best way to stop this is to just gift ancient coins or emporium cosmetics directly. In other words, you can only gift something that costs the player actual money. You won’t be able to gift the ancient coins you already have. You would have to buy new ancient coins and give them away.

In which case cut out the middle man and just give them a gift card.

Since there is no trading, you can only give things away, how would this lead to those kind of issues?

Who cares if you give away your coins, you can't be paid back so there is no issue like in games where trading is allowed.

  • Have a falling out with a friend and you demand they return the item you gifted. Or they don’t even use the gifted item.

    Friends or real life friend.

Not the same, let's say I want to give children who play SoT in my family something. If I give them a gift card they might spend it in Fortnite plus the denominations to do not match the prices. What if I want to buy my wife the new dress costume, a gift certificate is not the same thing.

All the other games I play regularly have this.

  • good night pirates!
I think things are getting a bit off track!
The idea IS NOT TO TRANSFER OLD COINS BETWEEN FRIENDS.
The idea is to BE ABLE TO BUY ITEMS IN THE PIRATE EMPORium, EITHER WITH OLD COINS IN THE GAME OR WITH REAL MONEY, AND BE ABLE TO GIFT THAT ITEM TO A FRIEND.
We are not talking about currency transfers.

  • It’s the same idea Apex implemented at the end of last year. And they came up with rules to keep people from coin farming and exploiting it much. Here are their requirements:

To send your friend a gift, you need to:
*have EA Login Verification turned on,
*be Level 10 or higher in Apex Legends,
*have enough Apex Coins on your account for the gift,
*add the person as a friend in-game,
*be friends in-game for at least two weeks - platform friendships don’t count,
*have sent no more than five gifts in the past 24 hours,
*have an account in good standing.

*things you cannot gift: coins, items already owned

SoT could require similar to avoid abuse and I think it would be a great idea.

    as simple as this:

  • Not sure if they could use that method with the emporium. That’s basically how gifting through the Microsoft/Xbox store works already. So that exists already, but is very limited with the offerings. They’d have to build a new store to work the way that game does, the current emporium wouldn’t be able to handle that. Not sure they make enough money from the emporium to incentivize them making a new cart system. Easier to just keep using Microsoft’s system and putting bundles there.

  • @abjectarity Elder Scrolls does it on Xbox so it does work.

  • So... sending money through PayPal, Venmo, Zelle, or basically, any other way to gift money to an individual too far away for you to physically hand them isn't the better option?

The emporium shouldn't be too difficult to tell your friend to navigate. I don't want to dismiss this, because it feels like an honest suggestion that would make some level of a difference, but like, preferred emporium items aren't too hard to find, especially if they're recent or featured. Gift them some dollars!

  • @nex-stargaze not everyone can use these, especially if they live outside NA/UK. Not everyone who plays this game is an adult. Plus it’s a lot nicer to gift someone an item than money to buy the item, it’s a thought thing.
