Idea for transferring wealth, and to make Port Merrick a center of attention.

  • The Port Merrick looks AWESOME, but also unfortunately, vacant.
This idea starts out for all of those streamers and players with hundreds of millions in gold, but with nothing to spend it on, for them to create their own adventures. It would also allow a friend with 1 million in gold to share to a friend who was broke in the game.

You should also be able to transfer "wealth" other players, just because you want to, here's how:

You should be able to go to gold hoarders at Port Merrick , and (because it looks like a bank) "withdraw" bags of gold (similar to the pouches of gold, but bigger).

That you could then hand to another player (or someone could steal it). And they get equal gold for turning it in at any OTHER outpost other than Port Merrick.

This allows now a way for pirates to transfer gold between accounts, and is an easy, fun way of doing it.
Perhaps you could fit 3 of these large bags of gold in a chest and burry it if you wanted to. I think you should be able to take out 1k, 10k, and 25k bags of gold.
Also at Port Merrick you could allow the merchant to sell the open and close empty treasure chests, so that the gold bags could be placed in them, for easier carrying.

I can just picture not only people using this to share/transfer wealth, but also streamers using it to take and burry treasure, to create their own adventures.

  • We don't have gold sinks and having millions has no real meaning or purpose.

That is because there is no player economy.

Adding trading of any kind would in essence create an economy which would then make all kinds of things "problems" that would have to be solved.

Also this would be hugely abused, for example cheaters could funnel wealth back to a "main" account.

That's like saying we shouldn't have guns, because cheaters may have aim bots. Cheaters are always a problem, we just need them eliminated either way.
Irregardless, this would open up many fun things with non-cheaters.

  • @admiralcorporal pirates by lore standards and
fairy tales are notoriously greedy, why on earth would we share our hoard?

Port Merrick shouldn’t be the centre of attention, every outpost should eventually become a port. We don’t need 1 centralised hot spot to hang out in, that would kill the seas.

    Also, it’s just “regardless” ;)

That was one example in 1000s.

Also building on @Tesiccl there is no point in making any place the center of attention when the servers hold a maximum of 6 ships.

  • @tesiccl Why not make somewhere the center of attention when usually the servers feel dead?

  • Basically, because it feels like we are on a ghost sea, a dead sea, and viewing what it once was, yet there are 5-10 NPC's at each outpost, so it isn't completely dead, which removes the ghost sea view, yet this giant, gorgeous, beautiful Port Merrick sits empty, no one else walking around, no one to bump into. It feels like it should be a bustling town, yet whenever I am there, I am the only one there, other than the shop-keeps. We never see anyone in the taverns, other than the bar-maid, we never see anyone anywhere. I want to walk into a tavern, and see to pirates sitting and having a drink, I want to be able to walk up and play darts (but with daggers), I want to be able to roll dice, like in Pirates of the Caribbean on ship of Davy Jones, I want to be walking past people in the streets, and there is none of that, because I usually play for 8 to 10 hours and only pass 1 or 2 ships out in the distance any given play session.

  • In before the cash for currency bots running invincibility cheats make sure no one can ever do a FoF again.

  • @admiralcorporal because that’s just going to encourage less PvP between crews if they’re just hanging out together the whole time. Do not like the slippery slope of discouraging players to sail around.

  • Abuse aside which has been mentioned. I feel like this ruins or negates a lot of the potential interactions with newer players. Instead of helping them with voyage, giving them loot etc people would just transfer gold

  • What if we could sell our fingernail clippings instead?

But yeah, very bad idea, no need to create a gold farming black market.

  • I can only see this feature being abused by larger crews, cheaters, and players bullying others. Imagine having to pay a crew for that FoF, or to allow you to complete your FotD? That's just the tip of the iceberg. Not a road you want to go down.

  • Happy for the players with bajillions in gold but they must be a decided minority, despite the streaming and video-making wing of the player base. Any design that caters to this cohort of players is bound to be another near insurmountable wall for most everyone. Suspect this playstyle is completely outsized in the online world to reality.

  • The fact that you cannot impart gold to other players is about the only thing keeping the bulk of cheats and farmers away, and there are still plenty of them.

    No thanks
