Sea of Thieves: Towards an innovative and unique Battle Royale mode?

  • With a limit of 20 to 50 ships, the goal is to be the last one to keep their ship alive as the map begins to shrink. If a ship is outside the zone, it will have a higher chance of being attacked by a shark, a giant octopus, or a big storm with lightning. This allows for attracting many more people and for players to strive to be winners while working as a team. I would be delighted to have an answer from you, whether it is negative or positive.

  • How about...1 Million ships

No but seriously, there are reasons why you only have 6 ships at the moment and limited number of players also it feels like servers became less stable after going back to 6 from 5, now imagine 50 like you suggested.

  • SoT is the game that avoided being a BR to be unique (which worked) but in the end would have been one of the more fun BR experiences in gaming lol

  • HitReg Royale you mean? 🤣

  • Battle Royale’s are finally dead. Thank god.

  • That would fail so bad. Terrible idea.

  • ...So its Arena

    ...So its Arena

nah one of the biggest things holding arena back in design was that the design was to not be a BR

avoiding the closing boundaries allowed all the side activity to lower the quality of the overall experience.

it was a watered down alternative to BR and was competing against a much more appealing (for most) random adventure mode

  • Hey everyone! I recently shared the idea of introducing a free Battle Royale mode in Sea of Thieves, and I'm thrilled to see it sparking lively discussions. I genuinely believe that this mode could offer a unique experience, blending action and cooperation in an ever-evolving environment. By offering this experience for free, we could welcome new players and enhance server availability for even more thrilling matches. Your opinions truly matter, whether they're positive or constructive, so please feel free to share your thoughts. Together, we could shape something exceptional. Thanks for your support!

  • @saada7549 while the idea is cool in a sense

It is impossible to implement on a technical level.

The ships are the most resource intensive objects on the servers and the servers can barely run with 6 ships on a single server.

So an increase to 10 would not be possible let alone 20 or 50.

It is simply a HARD limitation that the game runs into

  • If you'd like a SoT-esque BR experience, I would highly recommend heading on over to the Blazing Sails page (for those on PC since I don't believe it's on console) and giving them a look over. It does seem quite similar in the nature of graphics, etc.

  • Even though the idea is most likely not possible at the moment, imagine what it would be like to have 50 vs 50 galleon battles!
With only one repair available per ship so eventually everyone starts going down if hit, eliminating the inifite repair that extends fights and last side standing wins.

  • There are plenty of br games out there, sot tried something that was almost like a br, but it failed. Arena was about as close to a sot style br as you could get without being one, and im glad it wasnt a total battle royale mode, because this game does not need one.

Its just not the right kind of game for it, and way too many people want everything to be turned into a br game lately, just look at responses to halo infinite. Halo is not something that should be a br, nor should sot in my opinion.

A year ago I would have said the same thing.

Unfortunately it turned out to be very low on traffic because of the fact that it's a BR game that you have to pay for in order to play, which made its playerbase borderline non-existent. Especially since it's been criticized as a Sea of Thieves "ripoff" due to it's cartoony style.
