Team Death Match!

  • I notice many players in the SOT community excel at naval but lack in hand to hand combat skills due to not having many opportunities to fight hand to hand. I love to board ships and fight people on their vessels, most of the time they will stay very even with me in naval but once i board i can wipe them out easily as if they where new players. I noticed a good amount of “Looking for group post” on Xbox that have to do with players actively wanting to fight in hand to hand combat on an inactive skelly fort. It’s continually growing as well in the number of post that I have seen. I propose that a game mode should be added that has to do with hourglass that allows us to fight hand to hand on an inactive fort.

  • FoV requests and now a tdm mode?

    inserts bugs bunny NO meme

  • @tesiccl So you don’t want players to get more practice in with hand to hand combat? Why is that? Does it make you nervous you may get boarded and sunk quicker lol. All kidding aside, a tdm mode would be dope and everything I have said is the truth, there’s been way more tdm LFGs on Xbox groups now, and majority SoT players aren’t good at hand to hand but are dope at naval. Lol

  • @rarepineappless I’m fine without aim assist and I play on controller, it’s more of a skill issue for anyone to really want aim assist. All the other points you made are valid tho. The servers are horrible at the moment and hit reg is worst than ever before but back to aim assist . I don’t need aim assist but it took me 126 days played to actually get good at PvP and I’m still far off from some of the best players the SoT community has to offer. It’s all about putting time in and practicing.

  • @rarepineappless This isn’t your everyday first person shooter, You can honestly get good without aim assist. It feels much better anyways when you hit your shots without it.

  • @vupzy "lack in hand to hand combat skills due to not having many opportunities"
@RarePineappless "The reason why a lot of people including me aren’t great at close quarters combat is because Sea of Thieves has NO aim assist at all."

Both wrong, the reason is we LIKE naval combat and DON'T LIKE sweaty shooters.

Nobody wants to practice something they DON'T WANT TO DO.

  • Maybe a small boxing ring where it is limited to sword fighting only.
Have another scenario in another location for guns and one for mixed weapons.

  • @vupzy I don’t need a mode that was looked down upon by Rare during Arena that got shut down. Set up your “tdm’s” in game naturally, the way the game is supposed to be played. SoT isn’t an fps so it won’t treat itself like one.

  • Isnt every match already tdm? I mean boarding is beyond simple.

  • not having many opportunities to fight hand to hand.

Are players avoiding those npc mobs on islands? The many skeletons and phantoms you must face?

I notice many players in the SOT community excel at naval

Ive seen the opposite, they lack naval combat.

Until the DG and hitreg is fixed...no.

  • @rarepineappless this isn't a first person shooter and i know from playing against them in TDMs that xbox players are not hindered by the controller whatsoever. some of the best aimers in sea of thieves are on controller. your post feels more like an excuse. i'm sorry.

  • @vupzy i propose a game mode should be added where 5 or 6 ships all spawn in close quarters and have to battle it out over 15 or so minutes. this would allow players to increase their skill level and competence at shooting cannons and getting used to player interactions where they might have just been running away from pvp in the past. there could also be a main goal to these 15 minutes like trying to find a single valuable piece of treasure or something, this would be a risky find as more players would come over to try and sink you but i'm sure it could be outweighed in some way. possibly the piece of item could be cashed in to earn silver - a brand new currency only found in that game mode.
i'm trying to think of what to call it, it's an enclosed space where people fight for the win, they aim to get points, the people fighting are pirates. i think a good name would be the "Sea Dog's: Arena."

  • @rarepineappless an FPS game isn't as simple as a game where you shoot guns in first person. an FPS game is centred around high-paced weapon combat against other players. sea of thieves isn't that. sea of thieves is an action adventure game.
it feels like you're sort of going down Rare's route of "let's remove skill gap because the players that are bad at the game can't kill the players that are good at the game". If aim assist was added to the game, it would be added to make a more level playing field between PC and Xbox players - not save the bad players. If a player is bad at the game then they deserve to die to the good player, because that's what the difference is between the two. the bad player needs to learn game mechanics and get better aim in order to stand a chance against the good player: thats how video games work.
video games should be fun for all players true, but players shouldn't have things handed to them on a plate. you risk the computer playing the game more than the person does if you add something like aim assist.
sea of thieves does not need "super human reflexes", it's an adventure game advertised for 13 year olds, its a pirate game.

  • @rarepineappless oh "joined a day ago" you're just a troll pretending to want a skill gap lowered. doesn't matter.

  • @rarepineappless "No no no buttercup I’m not stupid enough to log in to my main to discuss anything on here."

Why? With 6 ships per server the odds of running into anyone in game are almost nill.

  • I don't want to use my main account sounds very troll-like. Also circumventing bans. What are you hiding? 🤔

I thought I was paranoid lol.

    Th3 Tater
    PithyRumble

Go ahead. Look me up cuz. I got nothing to hide but two 6-figure gamer scores lol

We can name and shame ourselves right? 😅🤣🤪

  • @pithyrumble "Also circumventing bans."

I'm going with this one, but:

"oh "joined a day ago"" Is aclose second :)

  • @rarepineappless

A bunch of suggestions will introduce new problems and trolling opportunities. I am against those. I suggest silly things I enjoy and actual suggestions to mitigate issues.

TDM, Bounties, Solo sloop servers are problematic in their own ways.

I do try to discourage ideas I think would be detrimental to the game. It's a public forum. Defend it or drop it.

  • @vupzy

I agree with this 1,000,000% cuz I love doing team death match in CoD Black Ops 2, and I would love for that to come to Sea of Thieves. Also, I did not know that there were posts like that on Xbox. I'll have to look into that so I can improve my PvP cuz I want to be very good at hand to hand combat with a sword and pistol so that I can hunt down hackers and toxic players and board properly. Rare, get this man a position on your team that thinks of ideas for the game!

  • This is how this unfolds:

    1. They introduce TDM
    2. People complain about the PvP quality, only 4 weapons, cheats, double guns, etc.
    3. Sweaty PvPers bad mouth SoT on the net for not being a great TDM game, which was NEVER THE FOCUS
    4. SoT gets a bad reputation
    5. Developers are forced to focus on non-naval combat to the exclusion of content the majority wants.
    6. The queue is slow in a few months for the EXACT SAME REASON that Arena and Hourglass failed/are failing: The vast majority of SoT CUSTOMERS are just not into FPS style PvP.

Talk about a nightmare for SoT.

  • I feel like hourglass in general would continue to thrive for months/years to come if more modes were introduced, and rewards added to pad level 200-1000, and then 1000+.

TDM, CTF, KOTH, 2v2 ship battle, 3v3 ship battle, etc, etc - the possibilities are honestly endless.

  • @foambreaker Your #3 reason made me laugh due to how true it is lol.

I'm all for more hourglass modes being added, but hard-core PvP players need to eventually realize that SoT is not, and never will be a hugely/largely competitive FPS title. SoT isn't CoD, CSGO or other, more harder-core FPS games. It's a pirate adventure, and the quicker people put their expectations of this game in check, the better.

Same thing with exploits and animation cancels. Just because other FPS games allow for it, and even celebrate players' usage of them, doesn't mean SoT needs to operate similarly. Can't tell you how many whatboutisms I've heard people say, anytime exploit usage is talked down on.

There is some responsibility for it getting to where it got on the development/marketing side as well. Not only has it been a main part of marketing through player content creation there have been many decisions made in game that amplified it. Chain shots, the anchor change, making boats tanky to where deck fighting/tdm became necessary in many cases.

It's much less a case of tdmers being wrong and much more a case of for a long time they were catered to and as the game becomes more casual they are in a situation of adapting or moving on (or doing what y'all are talking about on social media)

Which is true for any of us on the more extreme side of sot, pvp, pve, doesn't matter. If we did non casual stuff, that is getting pushed out so we are all in a situation of figuring out how to adapt to that or just gotta switch games.

  • @wolfmanbush Agreed 100%. I think it was sort of a damned if they do, damned if they don't kind of situation honestly. SoT was always marketed as the open-world pirate adventure with both elements of PvP and PvE. PvP is fun as heck, and I think Rare tried to throw a bone towards that portion of the community, and it became a "give a mouse a cookie, and he will ask for a glass of milk" situation - hardcore PvP players asking for more more more, and then getting angry when they aren't being listened to, despite Rare already doing more than they probably want/wanted to for them. Personally? If I worked at Rare, and received near daily toxic remarks on what should/shouldn't be added/removed, I'd be way less inclined to cater to that portion.

Yeah, I think there have been a few pretty big misses over the years as far as maintaining a shared environment goes but they were always trying to make it work, overall they did awesome as it wouldn't have lasted this long if they didn't do well overall.

It's a complicated process to maintain the game and the social space around the game in a way that serves totally different types of players, pirates, and preferences. On social media it never really looks great but overall they've steadily improved and made progress.

5+ years is a huge accomplishment in gaming in general but when considering how this game is designed it's an even bigger deal. They don't have an easy job, that's a lot of stress and a whole lot of reading/hearing demoralizing feedback, that is difficult for just about anyone in a creative space.

  • @devtryak There’s a certain set of rules that follow a TDM post, It’s pistol/sniper only, no throwables, No shooting people off there ship while waiting for them to shoot out to the island, don’t barrel shoot people, sometimes don’t air shoot but that’s optional.

  • @vupzy I like thos I also think team battle with ships would be epic in a pvp mode ( I can dream can't I)

  • @vupzy

The way I interpreted it was being able to use all the weapons and throwables and you could use all techniques you would use during hand to hand combat

Ahh yes, player made rules, reason #5430986753409678340595855 not to have TDM.

  • @jdge439 Yes, but when you need someone on the helm, who mostly mains helm or someone on bilge who most mains bilge, they aren’t getting enough hand to hand experience as the person who mainly boards.

  • @vupzy None of us board unless we have them sails down and on fire. Its just a cheese

  • If it means it would save us from perma tdmers that force you to scuttle ship , Im down

  • @jdge439 Yeah, That creates a lack of hand to hand and when you get boarded by a seriously good player you end up getting camped because you have no sense of hand to hand. Not saying you but just with players in general. I know some cracked naval players but if I boarded them they’d lose in a heart beat.
