[Suggestion] Flames of Fate

  • So when you die and spawn aboard the Ferry of the Damned, there's a flame above the hold(where all the phantom hands are locked below in the hull reaching through the bars, in the center of the ship). When you hold your lantern up to that flame you can receive a different color flame for your lantern and spread that flame around.

I think a cool feature(getting to my suggestion part now) for the Flames of Fate would be that when you get the flame it shows your last death location and/or marked/put a target on the ship that sank you. This would actually fit the lore a bit more as well. 'Cause when you talk to the Ferryman at the helm of the Ferry of the Damned, and ask about the Flames of Fate, one of the main things he says about it is; "The Flames of Fate show you how you died. And they show you how you live." So with that statement, showing you how you died should mark on your map either where you last died or mark the ship that sank you thus also "showing you how you live" as if it's giving you a new voyage to go on and the option to sail back for an attempted vengeance lol. Obviously, there'd have to be some kind of balance to this though, otherwise it'd get annoying for people that keep killing someone and having them come back over and over. Maybe make a gold payment for the Flames of Fate or limit it to 2x per IRL day per targeted ship or something. /shrug Any thoughts on this?

  • @trollerton what would be the point of that? If you’ve forgotten where you just died 15-30 seconds ago then what makes you think you’d want to go back? Seems pointless I won’t lie.

    I respect your opinion.
My points are; ties in with the Ferryman's lore, something other than just a cosmetic, and I personally could see it being useful in a case from experience such as; intense ship battle, paying less attention to what island/landmarks your close to and more attention to the battle at hand, lot a loot to lose(been trying to get the 20 chests on a ship at a time achievement), so yee forgetting where you're at tends to happen sometimes, and when you've got a lot a loot, you at least want to try to get it back.

  • @trollerton if you’re struggling with that achievement, may I recommend doing a few sea forts. Each piece of loot if it’s a skull or merchant crate counts as a “chest” and you don’t even need to put it on the ship, as long as you touch it. That’s how I got it done but that was a while ago and may have changed since then. If it hasn’t, you should easily be able to do this.

Yeah I understand some people forget where they are in the heat of the battle, but I wouldn’t exactly call for a marker to make it super easy. I think it’s not in the game already because Rare want you to explore, to go and find the place you want to go back to and have it add to the chase and exploration aspect instead of handing it to you on a plate.

  • Outside of fighting over something specific like a Fort of fortune, chances are they moved on after getting your supplies regardless.

  • So with that statement, showing you how you died should mark on your map either where you last died or mark the ship that sank you

    "How you died" Not where.
and so far this only works if a player kills you...what about Blue, Purple, Red, Green? Mark places where a shark, snake, fire or skeleton killed you? Meh

    "showing you how you live"

You lived poorly to die by poison snake :P

giving you a new voyage to go on and the option to sail back for an attempted vengeance

Pretty much giving a player a perm mark just because they killed another player...so you can send out a signal to other players to hunt them down and harass them. Until the player who has the voyage "seeks victory"

  • For PVE this would be just annoying and pointless

For PVP, you do have this already (at least I do) - You remember the players/ship cosmetics so if you want revenge after sinking you know who to look for and using maths and logic you know where they will be going, if it's reapers they are already marked on the map.

Also, I'm sure there are more people like me who appreciate this game for the very reason that it doesn't hold you by the hand and this game doesn't have big massive GO here indicators, the reaper chest beacons for their value are a bit much imo, imo they should be distance related or have more value added to them.

There’s a Daily Deed that cycles around occasionally that says I must die by poison and collect the purple flame to receive my reward.

As for the location thing, I am on the side with the posters who don’t see a point to it. But I’d like to see the flames used more, especially with the skull of destiny voyage making them obsolete.

  • Fair points, all. Thanks for chattin'! 🍻
