It's rarely used correctly but even when considering the spirit of freedom within ideas, opinions, and communication it is misused.

It is used as a manipulation tactic to hide personal attacks and harassment behind the shield of "opinion".

Similar to people using "facts" as a manipulative tactic to demean the existence of others.

The principles of freedom are founded on protecting those without power, fair and just treatment, maintaining an environment that co-exists as peacefully and civilly as possible in the situation that exists.

There is nothing about freedom that was ever built on protecting abuse, harassment and/or other mistreatment. That includes psychological.

    Facts.

Not to mention, moderation is needed in a game which is supposed to be family friendly, but is, at its core, an extraction shooter. When perceived investment of resources may be in vain, people get upset! However, it's unacceptable to act toxic or spawncamp without sinking.

Kids play this game and older people should model good sportsmanship. It's about building a community, and sure, some of us may be competitive, but it's all in good fun.

  • We already have a kind of rudimentary report a player feature. You can report offensive gamertags, ship names and pet names directly within the game.

I'd hope the next step would be to keep a certain text chat log for each players last hour and to be able to report that right away too.

This would make at least the worst of the worst types of racist or self-harm comments straight up reportable. You can't log everything but maybe the last hour or so since screenshots of someone saying something ingame do not count when reporting.

Experienced leadership through example is certainly something that can become a valuable resource for those that are open to holding themselves accountable for their current approach and behavior towards self and others.

We are all learning and we've all made mistakes. There are no perfect records in personal conduct. Today is a new day, one that can become the first day on a journey to become more considerate and consistent in conduct.

The environment improves when people decide they wanna break the habits that are harmful. It's a lot of work for a while, it often requires sacrifices to maintain consistency, falling down, getting back up, regret, frustration, social disagreements, it's all a part of it. Then it gets easy.

People carry around vast amounts of potential to make a positive impact around them, including gaming.

It's over. Anita Sarkeesian Feminist Frequency Is shutting down.

Turning off chat in PvP seems to make more sense then filling reports and your personal ignore lists. I used to say in WoW, "If your ignore list is full, perhaps they arn't the problem." The LAST thing we need in Sea of Thieves is someone trying to get people censored.

A welcoming environment is one that implements rules based on decency and safety of the community and then maintains consistent enforcement as to minimize repeated mistreatment, harassment, prolonged harm to participants.

In a welcoming and safe environment it is unacceptable to target an individual, to target gamers for specifically being female or a part of a group/community that regularly faces targeting/mistreatment/harassment specifically because of who they are.

These are random encounters, many of the encounters boil down to reactions to voices/gamertags. If someone hears a voice or sees a name and begins targeting specifically based on those bits of info it is inappropriate and should not be dismissed or enabled.

We are guests, paying money for the game or for cosmetics does not change that. It is not a violation of freedom for a company or community to uphold a code of conduct for the safety of participants.

This is what it looks like when someone is working for censorship. Take notes so you can spot it in the future. Corporations operating in a country shouldn't have rules that circumvent citizens rights living in that country. I reject your long winded and bullet pointed explanation of why it's ok to censor people. It's not.

  • @spotlores You are more than welcome to spout your mouth off and say what you like, but don’t be surprised when the consequences of those words and actions come back to bite you when you’re breaking the rules. Crying censorship when you’re rightly silenced for being toxic and abusive is the mentality of someone who would continue the abuse if they weren’t stopped.

We can have freedom of speech, but not freedom from the consequences.

I feel like your implications and feeble attempts at trying to outrage are showcasing an incorrect and potentially hostile mindset towards purchasing a game and abiding by its Terms of Service and Code of Conduct.

Freedom of Speech and expression isn't without punishment. You wouldn't get arrested for saying what you want, but justice, whether it be provided by the rules (read: Code of Conduct/Terms of Service) of a product you're consuming, or by the vigilant efforts of a passerby will result in a clash of righteousness of which the victor is likely going to be socially accepted.

Now to TL;DR that, not much of what is being discussed is promoting censorship, it is providing justice in a product that markets and promises a safe/family-friendly environment, in spite of the game's ESRB/PEGI rating.

If you want to say all the words and phrases that are publicly known to socially/morally/mentally degrade other people you do not care about, you're free to in other spaces that allow it, however:

Sea of Thieves is not, nor ever will be, one of those spaces.

  • @nex-stargaze Looks like this aged like WINE. I wonder if the censorship pushers are still employed.
