Devils Roar revamp idea: The Dragons roar

  • Currently the devils roar is a barren wasteland with rarely any reason for pirates to sail there. It is in dire need of an update so I’d like to suggest my idea for what I like to call The Dragons roar, a revamp and community choice to decide the fate of the forgotten devils roar

It would start with Madame Olga, (the current order of souls representative of the devils roar) leaving her shop and instead being found at a makeshift dock by a nearby sea volcano (she would still work as usual giving out quests and stuff). We come to learn she is attempting a ritual to calm the spirits of the roar and she needs our help collecting relics (more on those later). The community would help collect these relics and after a while

Meanwhile flameheart would send Warden Chi, the ashen lord to begin construction on a new outpost for Flamehearts return. Chi will act as an npc on fetchers rest who will also task you with hunting down relic stashed in order to currier them for flameheart. This will be the crux of the choice, Save the roar or give it to flameheart

[Now for the fun stuff and new additions]

Once a choice has been made regardless the sea volcanoes will stop completely, giving the sky a bluer hue but still slightly smoggy however island volcanoes will still continue to erupt to keep that exclusive feature of the roar. The grass and foliage will also become more akin to that of the wilds so while not completely regrown it still maintains that tropical aesthetic. Then comes the big stuff; a new style of architecture and a second outpost. I think an East Asian inspired area is definitely a must for sea of thieves, opening a whole new door for styilized cosmetics inspired by the pirates of the East Asian sea. Enemies and NPCs could adopt new clothing styles to further give us that style we would be looking for even if the devils roar requoers a few of the buildings to be singed and burnt. This new region should also be renamed to the dragons roar to reflect its Asian roots

The community choice will come down to the fate of fetchers rest. First players will finally be allowed to spawn in the roar. Should the order win then fetchers rest will be converted into a second outpost hopefully driving up player activity. I can imagine the outpost looking similar to Singapore from the pirates of the Caribbean movies and maybe giving a special building over to captain morrow where she can preside over the roar as regional governor or something. Should Warden Chi win then fetchers rest will be converted into a second reapers hideout for players to turn in their loot and having an ashen dragon themed outpost filled with skeleton NPCs and a size similar to port merrick. Warden chi will also become the main NPC of this outpost where reaper loot will be turned in.

Relic stashes will become a new location exclusive loot item that must be collected from temple voyages which will act as mini shores of gold style puzzle boxes where you will enter an ancient temple in search of these relics. Lore wise they will be used to keep the shroud from overtaking the section of the map along with keeping the volcanoes dormant. These quest can be given by either Captain Morrow or Warden chi depending on what choice is made. A new special piece of loot from these voyages will be the cursed tome; a single use item that will “activate” any island it is used on. For example a cursed time used on a island with a volcano will cause it to erupt or for smaller islands it will cause an earthquake, For forts it will activate them with the chance for a fort of fortune to spawn and for regular large islands it could start either a phantom fleet or ashen winds event, not sure what it should do for smaller islands.

This essentially makes up the jist of this concept with an Asian inspired map expansion, new loot and a revive to the devils roar.
(Also I couldn’t fit it in but this event could also be the perfect place to implant the long awaited dark brethren faction so maybe instead of warden chi we have Wanda or Duke)

  • @illusivecash2 Hard no from me. Sorry I like the roar and the volcanoes. It makes sense geographically as well.

  • Could be kind of cool but I can’t see it happening at least anytime soon

    A very cool idea though

  • @illusivecash2 "Currently the devils roar is a barren wasteland with rarely any reason for pirates to sail there. "

This is not true, I go there all the time and I see other ships there. Keeping in mind each server holds 6 ships, what are you expecting?

I like DR the way it is as well.

    Don't fix what ain't broke.

  • Nice concept don't see it happening anytime soon though would love to see another community choice event soon

  • Ironically, as soon as the "fun stuff and new additions" started, that's where I started to disagree.

Once a choice has been made regardless the sea volcanoes will stop completely, giving the sky a bluer hue but still slightly smoggy

No. If anything the island volcanoes are more annoying. It makes little sense to stop the others but not them. It is a main feature of the Roar, so go big or go home.

The grass and foliage will also become more akin to that of the wilds so while not completely regrown it still maintains that tropical aesthetic

Absolutely not. The design of the Roar is outstanding, the plants are a further extent of that. We already have 2.5 areas of the map dedicated to "tropical lands", it's just that the Ancient Isles are overgrown and the Wilds just look terrible. The Roar is unique with its plantlife, having a dark red and green intertwined with burnt or ashen edges looks incredible.

a new style of architecture and a second outpost.

I could agree with the first, but I don't like the second, however the second is necessary to easily reflect on the first. So overall that's no from me again. The Roar is a small biome, having a single turn-in point raises the stakes even higher beyond the PvE threat aspect of the volcanoes. It is meant to be an extremely dangerous area, adding a second outpost will reduce that risk.

This new region should also be renamed to the dragons roar

    No.

First players will finally be allowed to spawn in the roar

Finally, something I can fully agree with. Add it as an option on the ship or in the menu, but turn it off by default so newbies aren't overwhelmed.

a special building over to captain morrow where she can preside over the roar

    That'd be cute :)

Should Warden Chi win then fetchers rest will be converted into a second reapers hideout for players to turn in their loot and having an ashen dragon themed outpost filled with skeleton NPCs and a size similar to port merrick

Alright, as much as I disagree with having a second outpost in the Roar I would like to see this implemented SOMEWHERE in the game, because this does sound incredible. Considering what they've done with the Reapers Hideout... hideout, the world building team has a massive opportunity with this.

Warden chi will also become the main NPC of this outpost where reaper loot will be turned in.

No, the Reapers second turn in is the same reason as the Devils Roar second turn in.

For forts it will activate them with the chance for a fort of fortune to spawn and for regular large islands it could start either a phantom fleet or ashen winds event

I doubt this will be something that Rare can do, considering how world events work and only one being available at the time.
More world events on demand are also only going to cause further gold inflation where honestly, it's not really needed.

Overall, got some cool points but generally does not sound like something I'd be interested in, as someone who now spends a majority of my time in the Roar

  • I love the idea of an Asian themed area, whether your idea happens to the Roar or not. I like the Devil's Roar as is, and would support just adding a new area of the map with an Asian theme.

  • Keep in mind the area of Sea of Thieves is geographically sorted out as being in the Caribbean. Having a Singapore/China/Japan inspired area really wouldn't work.

What I would like to see for the Roar, is have some sort of feature in the game that would cause it to get "Frozen" over... be it activating Flames of Fate on the Sea Fortresses like we had to do for that adventure, or doing Flames on islands.

Swimming would hurt, add a "freezing" mechanic to the game... treat it like drowning but if you pull out your lantern or are standing by an open flame it would mitigate it.

Have a bunch of ice bergs in the water to avoid... though maybe diminish the waves... making the entire roar act like you are in the still waters by islands.

Have different treasure you can get, add a Frozen Athena Chest voyage... but if someone then re-activates the volcano's you would have to sort that out as well.
