Safe Zone for the outpost

  • Hello Fellow Pirats

So i always feel like that som people just sit and wait at the outpost either to sink your ship or steal all your stuff when you are trying to sell it and it makes it not just hard but also a bit toxict so why not make the outposts list below a safe zone so you can be sure that no campers/griffers will destroy your ship/steal all your loot it would make a bit nice knowing that you don´t have to fear that some griff/camper will still all your loot when you are trying to sell it and also would help in away to get more plays back because some people don´t enjory spending alot of time to get chest/skulls and more. Because you don´t know if som person is going to be sitting at one of the outpost ready to steal all your hard earn loot so you just feel like that you have wast so much time doing all of those voyages just to get all of your stuff stolen so i would love to see that the outposts will be Safezone.

Outposts that would make sense as of a safezone:

    Sactuary Outpost
    Port Merrick
    Plunder Outpost
    Ancient Spire Outpost
    Galleon´s Grave Outpost
    Dagger Tooth Outpost
    Morrow´s Peak Outpost

    Those should made to safezone´s

    Thanks for reading my syggestions

  • I think this post might end up getting locked due to this being brought up many times already and i belive Rare's stance is not having outposts as safe zones. (of course i could be wrong)
Perhaps having a more social aspect can make a difference like certain things you need to do that require you don't fight at least for a while or you can't complete them might work but not a definite safe zone.

  • @rickinatordk refer to this post:

Outposts are designed specifically to be known turn-in points. There are no 'safe zones' (outside of Maiden Voyage, certain Tall Tales and the Ferry) because it is a PvPvE game.

Turning in loot is SUPPOSED to be risky.

Even if Outposts WERE places where PvP is disabled, what would happen if someone stole the loot off your ship?

They would be free to turn it in and you couldn't do anything about it due to not being able to damage them.

If Outposts, again, WERE PvP free....what would stop those that wanted PvP just essentially 'embargoing' or blockading them by parking just outside the 'safe' zone?

Long story short, there are no Safe Zones because it is intended. You are vulnerable whilst turning in loot because loot is not yours until you do.

Same answer as this post asks, and it'll be locked too. Sorry, PvE safe zones don't belong in this game.

  • Think about it this way:

You can't have any Loot Turn In spots be a "Safe Zone".

One of the tenant of the game is thievery (It is in the title!) and one of the risks of hoarding treasure, is people are going to try to steal it.

If you can only fight for treasure up to the outskirts of the Outpost, then there is no risk with the turn in process.

And also think about this: How does it become "Safe?" do cannons shot from a boat bounce off of an invisible shield? Do they just not cause damage? can you not fire from your boat when it is docked? 10 meters off shore? 20? 50? a square away?

Is it just standing on the island? so people could be on shore, grieving people spawning on their ship which is not safe?

I could see an isolated island being a "Safe Zone" like put an island on one of the corners that has a veil you sail through designating it being "Safe" but you can't have a treasure turn in there... and it would just be a social place.

I totally understand what and why you want it... but that would not work in Sea of Thieves.... because it destroys one of the aspects that makes this game special.

  • @tesiccl Yeah, how frustrating would it be if someone was tucked on your ship, and as you are pulling into the safe zone, they snag your Ashen Athena chest, and start running around with it boasting how its theirs now, with nothing you can do.

  • @reverend-toast EXACTLY!!

I’m personally down for it but only if Rare adjusts the speeds of ships to be much more similar to each other AND implements a mechanic to counter a ship that just runs away.

Like I’m down for the hide and seek with a base style gameplay that offers a safe zone at outposts IF simply running away from an engagement wasn’t nearly as effective as it is.

There needs to be a way to slowly catch up to other ships that are running away regardless of the size of the ship that is running or chasing.

Something that facilitates parallel broadsides or a ram.

So perhaps the small boost in top speed that would occur when sailing reasonably close and directly behind another ship that is sailing in a relatively straight line would slowly increase as the gap between the fleeing ship and the pursuing ship narrows eventually enabling a ram to occur or a close range parallel broadside.

In other words, running is no longer a viable option for longer periods of time. A pursuing ship will eventually catch your ship unless you start turning more. It would be much better to sooner rather than later turn and face the opposing vessel while maintaining a safe distance as the chase mechanic speed boost only kicks in if you’re sailing in a relatively straight line.

Basically this new mechanic’s purpose is to eliminate running away as an effective option because of the newly requested and theoretically added safe zones that mean if you do happen to make it to an outpost your crew and ship are immune from taking damage and your treasure can only be picked up by a member of your crew.

Fully embrace the spirit of piracy everywhere else in the world and I’m down for safe zones at outposts.

This is just a theoretical concept. A discussion. I’ll continue to play the game if running remains as powerful as it is I just personally feel like it detracts from the game and goes against the spirit of piracy and lessens interaction between crews.

  • As has been stated by several users above, there is no intention of introducing any 'safe zones'. The dev team have given their thoughts on this before. As such, we will go ahead and drop anchor on this here. Thank you.
