A Noble Sacrifice

  • Ahoy Matey's!

Today I want to tell a story that I hope will give some people some faith in this community. A few times now I have read posts from others talking about the bad things in this community. We're all so quick to point out the bad and rightly so. But I think it's also important to give credit where credit is due. So that's what I'm doing now.

For the past few days I have been attempting to get to level 100 in Guardians of Fortune. Sometimes I dive and sometimes I wait to be invaded. Today, I decided to do a few voyages while running an hourglass. Normally, it takes some time for anyone to invade me. I activated the hourglass at the outpost and continued to stock my ship up. As I was doing this I had to go AFK to answer my phone which was on the other side of the room. As I answered the phone I saw that a battle had begun, I was being invaded. I thought "No biggie, I haven't got anything to lose at this point so this person get's a free win I guess" I was still at the outpost, hadn't even moved my boat. But as I sat there, waiting for my inevitable defeat, my opponent surprised me.

This individual had stopped their boat next to mine and boarded my boat, they used my cannons to shoot their own boat, sinking themselves and losing the battle. This person didn't have to do that and I know there are a lot of people out there that would have just taken the free win. Maybe this person didn't need the rep and they were just doing it for the fight, maybe they were just feeling generous, or maybe they just took pity on a man who wasn't ready. I'll never know why they did it, but they did.

I hope this gives some people some reassurance that not everyone you meet on the seas is out to get you. I know the individual mentioned in this story will probably never read this. But if you do, Thank You.

wouldn't surprise me if it's a loss farmer

plenty of the encounters I have seen have shown them to be pretty pleasant/generous about it

  • @wolfmanbush maybe. What do they gain by losing though? Surely it would make more sense to take the win?

loss farmers are more varied than some suggest

lots of different reasons and approaches, to some they very well may see it as "I am giving back for doing what I am doing"

Plenty of people also believe in sea karma, the energy and activity they put out influences what they receive in their view.

  • @wolfmanbush ahh, gotcha.
