Hello. Recently I've to face an issue with nVidia Highlights, such as narrowing image by width at the recorded video. My screen resolution is 3440x1440, it's 21:9 side ratio. I suppose, that SoT has no natural support for wide-screen displays and just stretching image from 16:9 to 21:9. I'd really like to ask the SoT dev team to provide wide-screen support in nearest updates, because it would be very nice for making content and game experience. Nowadays, people with wide-screen display can't even choose the correct resolution in graphic settings ingame.
21:9 side ratio and non-usual resolution support
@alienmagi yeah, sure. At least, my resolution settings are 'recommended' because there's no way to choose a side ratio and 1440p at screen settings ingame. I can only choose height, f.e. 1080p or 1200p, so w/a the width?
I also chose 1440p (recommended) and it automatically renders at 3440x1440. Is your windows desktop running in your native resolution? Did you try switching from windowed to fullscreen or vice versa?
@alienmagi haven't tried to change between windowed and fullscreen, I always prefer fullscreen. 1080p and 1200p are not to be meant 21:9 side ratio resolutions, so 1440 is just stretched image. It causes many troubles with bugged video records like in OBS and nVidia Highlights, if we talk about game capture, not screen capture. So for contentmakers natural 21:9 is preferred.
@alienmagi said in 21:9 side ratio and non-usual resolution support:
@foambreaker 21:9 screens are already supported by the game, not sure what you're talking about.
Right but not a wider field of view, just by stretching.

Based on past posts there is pretty much no chance that there will be a wide screen version.
Hmm, but does official answer to that question exist? Or is it a suggestion?
I have an ultra wide monitor as well. The Unreal Engine is made with the FOV actually being the Vertical FOV, so the stuff that go beyond the standard resolutions are just added.
The only thing that won't be shown if you center and zoom in to fill a standard video's aspect ratio in Final Cut, Premier or a Streaming Platform would be the HUD... which you can fairly easily overlay the health bar and ammo in post.
Well, look at this picture. That was made by nvidia highlights, and it looks narrowed. I don't think it's nvidia issue, because it uses 'same as ingame' settings. So, it seems that ingame image is stretched, and nvidia soft is narrowing it back to 16:9, because it doesn't count FOV, only natural side ratio.
@katakanoff That may be an N-Vidia Clips issue... though my shipmate uses that and has had no issues with his Ultrawide... But it also could be a video codec issue on your end too.
@reverend-toast so you think it could help if I change a format of record savings for next clips? Huh maybe it will really work
@katakanoff Most likely. Also make sure your screen resolution in game matches the screen resolution of your monitor. Sometimes if the aspect ratio of the resolution you chose, and the one of the monitor gets stretched instead of cropped... I haven't experimented with my screen yet.
@reverend-toast I can't do this. The only way I can make ingame resolution same as screen is to choose recommended options. There's no 1440p in settings at all.
@katakanoff AH, I would try recording from GameBar. I am able to do a screen record at full resolution with that.
This definitely seems to be an issue with your Nvidia recording software, not Sea of Thieves.
@katakanoff For NVidia Instant Replay/Recording to record your screen properly you NEED to have it set to "In Game" for the resolution. All the other settings will record at standard aspect ratios.

I set that and nothing happens xD
the image is still narrowed. Also, there's no other file format for nvidia recordings, mp4 is the only available@reverend-toast пишет в 21:9 side ratio and non-usual resolution support:

I also made a ticket for that bug at nvidia technical support, they've advised to reinstall the nvidia driver using their nvidia cleaner tool, and nothing happens after I reinstalled the driver.
@katakanoff this is the recording mode from the NVidia experience? Like with “instant replay”?
You can also record with the Xbox Game Bar
