Xbox Cheating Minors

  • I’m kinda surprised that after an entire season and a half break from this game that I’m encountering a lot of cheaters on x box with 90% of them being under 14 years old. It’s becoming a very common occurrence that when I join a LFG there is at least one minor who is actively using some type of device or program on their x box remote to use aimbot. I’m probably using the wrong words but I’ve been told they bought something for around $113 USD that is aimbot for their remote? They say stuff like “they can’t run scripts to detect it because it’s on my remote”. I’m sure I’m butchering the actual words they used. I’m not salty about it, I’m just kind of sad that the culture of SoT is becoming so saturated with either speed hacks to essentially teleport or using some type of aimbot.

I hope these kids get their satisfaction at some point and go to a different game, it’s just sad that this is becoming so normalized, especially for the youth.

  • Aww, got beat by children and blaming cheats are we?

  • @robby0316 I think you are a little more than confused here, as what you state is not possible in the way you state. More likely what they are referring to is an XIM which is a keyboard/mouse adapter for the Xbox (and other consoles). This device allows for keyboard and mouse use on the system and is practically undetectable as anything other than a controller. However it does not enable cheats such as aim bots or anything else, just bypasses the controller only limit on the Xbox Only servers. I do not know if it allows shortcut scripts like can be done on PC but I don't think it does.

So they are not using aim bots as you claim but are likely using a keyboard/mouse combo via an XIM or similar device which would give them an advantage in CQC situations, not so much in naval combat. But the high cost of the item will assure that it is not a common problem and it is something Rare knows already (as they have made comments on said device). I think you are greatly exaggerating your encounters with "cheaters" on Xbox....or are actually playing on Cross-Play servers with out realizing it.

  • @dlchief58 There are devices that allow you to run scripts on console, which include recoil control and other functionality. I'm not sure what would be possible on Sea of Thieves, outside of quick swap scripts, since there are no automatic weapons and no need to control recoil.

Cheaters are all over this game. I just ran into one yesterday after taking a month off. He climbed aboard and drained every barrel on our ship. When I tried to kill him, he would disappear and pop up around our ship. The person was using an alternate account that only had a few days of activity. Cheating has become a real issue in this game. [mod edit]

  • @jester1027 And that is on PC, not the Xbox only servers as the OP claims.

  • @dlchief58 His post doesn't specifically say Xbox only. He just said that on Xbox he encounters a lot of cheaters. He also made the point that it's sad that the culture of SoT is becoming saturated with cheaters...which I agree with.

He mentions it TWO times in the OP. Reading and comprehension are essential!

  • The joys of crossplay options

-play with crossplay enabled, go to PC matchmaking and deal with players with better controls

-play with crossplay disabled, and you have a smaller pool of players with a higher chance of cheaters and sweats because all the casual players have crossplay enabled

I just gave up trying to play on the Xbox side because it's lose-lose

Again....he doesn't specifically say, "Xbox ONLY" servers. Reading and comprehension are essential. You are assuming that it's Xbox only (which it very well could be), but he didn't say that. Try to read what is said rather than assume. Regardless, my original post was about cheating, not about Xbox servers. I was only pointing out that cheating has become a problem. I didn't think it was right for someone to respond to the OP with "you got killed by kids and think they were cheating".

  • Ahoy @robby0316 !

The best way players can bring cheaters to our attention is by raising a support request here. This helps us assess numbers, categorise issues and develop solutions accordingly.

We addressed this several months ago in our Podcast and we are actively working to mitigate the issues people are seeing. We can not go into detail on our work in this area but rest assured, we are committed to doing our best to give all players the best experience possible.

As the links have been provided to both our support website where these problems can be reported, and to our response as a studio to the problems we know our players are facing, I will be dropping anchor here.

    Thanks!
