This would remove spawn camping, people asking every boat they come across to leave so they could invite their friend, and much more
Just add custom servers that anyone can start
@Foambreaker @Captain-Coel , yeah that would be the thing, no earning any rewards or anything. You could possibly do tall tales so people can stop complaining about killing them while they are on a tall tale
This would remove spawn camping
Why because it be full of either your friends or nobody?
people asking every boat they come across to leave so they could invite their friend, and much more
I rarely see this happen. Even if it does, they sink you once what is the % they will find you again? I dare them to check the whole map just for a single sloop who refuses to leave :P
What about just adding a new game mode similar to arena?
We have Hourglass....
@dr-loveb0ne Servers and resources are not free. They don't just magically appear from nowhere.
If everybody was capable of creating their own server whenever they wanted, it would cost a fortune.
@triheadedmonkey a self hosted server would cost nothing
Client-Server Hosting Model: In the client-server model, the main host (such as larger game publishers) controls the game servers. This means that the main host directly manages individual connections for all players and that individual players do not have control over all aspects of game configuration. This model works for many recreational online gamers, but it doesn’t allow avid gamers to control their gaming experience at a granular level. It also leaves players at the mercy of the main host’s servers should an issue occur.
P2P Hosting Model: In the P2P model, the player who initiated the game or has the lowest latency is selected as the host for all other players. This means that the host player’s computer must have the processing power, bandwidth, storage capacity, and a strong Internet connection to maintain syncing and activities for all players within the game. If the player-assigned host has an inadequate device or spotty Internet connection, all players in the game will deal with lags, glitches, or worse, the entire game crashes.
However, by creating your own dedicated server for gaming, you gain access to a private server (a server that does not share the same resources with other websites or applications) that provides you ultimate control over game configuration with more performance and connection stability.Dedicated servers made Minecraft a better game, it made Left of dead a better game, it made Ark a better game. More options are better, playing a game the way you think it should be played shouldn’t be the only way.
@dr-loveb0ne ...it wouldn't 'cost nothing' ...again...things don't just materialise from nowhere.
Either A) someone would have to pay to self-host or B) Rare/Microsoft would need to charge for server access.
In the case of A) they would likely need to have access to the source/game code etc which....is unlikely.
So again 'just add custom servers for everyone' is not as simple or cheap as it sounds.

Now you are talking about private PvE only servers. Which of course is where this was going all along.
Now where is that anchor monkey?
Having played a full year in private servers on a weekly basis helping PvP communities/events happen as both a competitive player and a referee:
Private servers are a dumbed down version of what adventure servers currently are.
Theres no captaincy, you can't buy crates at the merchant (Cannonballs/storage etc). And last time I checked around a month ago they were bugged in setup for quite some time, where you choose say 2 sloops and 2 galleons, and I kid you not, those ships would spawn in different private servers meaning you had to waste time to restart the process all over again and get lucky next time that all ships spawn in the same server as intended (Idk how they messed up this badly out of nowhere).
All that being said:
-
Private servers are not fully updated to the main game, and haven't been for ages.
-
Custom servers is the thing that people want, being able to customize what you want to fit your playstyle needs:
Turn on/off PvE, weather. Select starting supplies in ships and spawn locations and what happens when a ship sinks for example, having tools such as freecam to shoot cinematics or enhance viewers experience for a twitch in game event such as PvP battles etc. -
As stated maybe have a subscription of say 10 bucks a month where one can access private servers for their community's/friends.
All chip in for a private server membership. Have progression disabled so any meaningful account progression is still in the main game keeping it alive! -
Like @triheadedmonkey stated, it costs money, but Im also not buying into the excuse either. Indie games offer private servers that aren't big companies like RARE literally sponsored by Microsoft. This game has money. This game has the player base. They simply choose not to for whatever reason, and unless you have connections with SoT Partners 99% of the playerbase will never experience a private server session.
-
A bonus point, private servers shouldn't be made for a sole PvE free get away to grind with no consequences, I think there vision/purpose was community first for streamers/partners to share with their fans doing events and what not.
That being said private servers are still limited in what they can and could be.
For example, the PvP community have been struggling since Arenas closing in making things work.
Relying on a single Tall tale for supplying a PvP event is shameful. It's been a year, treat them better please...-

Still waiting for private servers to be more widely available haha. It's also annoying that the Custom Server feedback Mega Thread got locked...
It's not coming, it had it's moment and is now obviously going.
I don't know how much resources would cost to host your own server in your machine but it would be difficult I can tell...
Servers are expensive and giving any player the tool to create their own server would saturate the system. Imagine the ammount of solo players opening a server to just take some screenshots (because for obvious reasons, private servers wont have progress).
I don’t understand why people post about this all the time. If you want to play in private servers with just your friends, join an alliance club, or make one yourself, and sever hop with your friends until you have the server to yourself. Folk have been doing this for ages. Literally what you ask for exists, in a capacity that isn’t programmed in to the game 🤷♂️
i don't see why people wants a server custom. what should you do with it? i don't like too the PVP mode, and yes because i am a bad pvper, but i'd love to play with other people doing their buisness, or mine. it can be a dead server, a bad server or it could be a great one, where you can find new friends, do an alliance and know new people, maybe an important for you, how can you don't in your private server. more of that, what are you disposed to remove by your gameplay to do a private server ? if you can do a game full only of your friends, without threads, you must have to sacrifice something, like reputation gain or gold, so, what could be the point of all that? there are many ways to find friends in the same server BTW.

Only if achievements and commendations for those was also disabled. No threat, no credit.
@pabio-escobar Your simple mind can't understand that people who enjoy pvp, want to be able to have their own server to pvp eachother whenever they want to? Not everybody wants private servers so they can stack loot. 90% of the people asking for private custom servers come from the Competitive scene, where we're looking to get practice without having to load into 100 servers to try and get 2 boats on the same one just to fight eachother.
@burnbacon does hourglass have 5 ships fighting eachother, or just 1v1? Just because you don't see it happen, means it doesn't happen all the time?

See that is different.
The key is you don't want to be on a server with certain players, you want to be on a server with a demographic.
That could be a choice in the master matchmaking preferences: Prefer PvP Server, similar to Prefer Xbox Server. Preferred, but not promised.
It could work for RP servers as well.
These special servers would have no loot, limited supplies, no events or unfriendly NPCs from Skeleton to Kraken. No bosses.
This wouldn't work for PvE because the whole point is the items the server would not have.
@foambreaker I don't want to pvp random people in a "prefer pvp servers" mode.. I want to be able to practice with other competitive teams. Yes, they have hourglass, no, it doesn't work the way I'm explaining. When I can get 3 ships on the same server, all of which are competitive teams and have a practice with them with 5000+ cannonballs for as long as we wish, it doesn't even compare to hourglass, or eve a "prefer pvp servers" mode.

Idk why so many people want the game to be so easy, what pride do you have in unlocking an item where there were no risks?
I am not against private servers, I am against private server progression.
I'm under the impression they still want to "complete the game" but in their own slow, boring, unfulfilling, low risk way that isn't disturbed by people taking advantage of their poor communication and lack of critical thinking.
People like these may struggle on full nights in Minecraft Single Player in comparison.
@dragonborn12940 a dit dans Just add custom servers that anyone can start :
Did the guide I linked to get removed because it was promotion? Or was it something else?
Rare doesn't officially endorsed Alliance servers. I assume that's what you linked. :p
Why not private instance, like other "game as a service" are offering?
For example, Fallout76 offer a private instance for players, with progression and gold enable.
Or Elite Dangerous, you can either plays open, solo or private group...
It just a managed instance, it hosted like any other public instance, so the game remains up to date, there is modding allowed that prevent exploit...
And it could also be a revenue stream if plyers have to pay monthly fee for their private instance. I rather pay for a private instance to play with my community than a useless “Plunder pass”.
At the end, money is king. Like any game editor they need money to continue to develop the game. Micro transaction for cosmetics is an uncertain way to generate revenue. But monthly subscription is a better way for a company to generate ARR.
This way is satisfying every bodies. People who don't want to pay or love wild pvp can still play in open mode. And peoples who want to play with their community can still have their private instance to play together in any type of gameplay they want.
I still not understand why some of the community are still afraid of private session.
It won't reduce the amount of player base. In fact, if it increases the revenue for Rare, it means more investment in the game and more new content for all players, that could leads to attract new players.
It's a kind of win-win situation for everybody....
