Clothing Update

  • Here’s the situation. While it’s nice to get the occasional new clothing items and sets, I wholeheartedly believe that Sea of Thieves could greatly benefit from an update that introduces entire wardrobes worth of new clothing, or perhaps even a complete overhaul with brand new clothing options for the more fashionable pirates out there to choose from.

It’s been a running joke within the community that Rare have lost the “art direction” when it comes to some of the clothing sets and outfits we’ve been seeing in recent times. Put simply, a lot of people feel that some clothing items, especially ones from the Pirate Emporium, are a bit ridiculous. I mean, skeleton brides, pumpkins as heads? This doesn’t feel very “pirate-ey”, not like most of the original clothing items seen in the first few years of the game’s life, as well as other later additions that managed to hold on to that same feeling, or various pieces of concept art.

To add to this, many players, myself included, think it would be a refreshing change of pace to have brand new clothing options such as hoods, masks, capes, ponchos and more! I want to be able to make my own reaper-style costume, mask and all. Or maybe I want to make my pirate appear a little more mysterious with a hood. I do however, understand that such options would require a lot more work, but a large collection of new and fairly simple clothing items that manage to capture that same feeling the slightly older sets give off, would be a welcome addition to the game

  • Makes sense, the capes and hoods would complement my tucking outfit!

  • I could see new options, but think there is anything wrong with what was done recently.

Remember this is a kids game as well, not all fashionistas, my grandson wears the pumpkin custom.

The reason we don't have those is likely because they'd make it look like you're wearing cardboard rather than cloth. Clothing models are all static, so loose fitting things like capes/ponchos/hoods would not move very much and look unnatural.
