Guild System Game Mode!

  • I keep thinking about the potential for the upcoming guild system to shine in a new game mode with a larger shared world as I fail to understand how a guild system is going to work for this game endless we get a larger shared world.

This could be done through another game mode where you venture outside the Sea of Thieves into a partially procedurally generated world where guilds are vying for power while they fight the Grand Maritime Union.

In this way, the Guilds could act like a conglomerate of different crews joined in a Flag. A flag is a collection of crews who ostensibly work together for mutual benefit or protection.

The Sovereigns reveal that the GMU has been gathering the ancient coins from the pirates of the SoT to make a ship that is able to pass the shroud. But they decide to show how to make the special ship to us pirates. Only able to be built at Port Merrick dry dock!

This ship would be a larger ship for guilds to operate, and has ancient coins laced in the construction that will allow the players to go forth and defend the SoT from the GMU in new unknown seas.

No ships will be visible on the map and no emissaries are flown outside the SoT. Your guild flag now acts as a specialty emissary system.

As you discover islands the map is filled out, and guilds can take control of forts and ports controlled by other pirate crews or the GMU. But the GMU will always own all areas at the start of each session.

Crew forts and ports that are captured will display your guild flag, and be seen by all others who have discovered these locations on their maps. Along with having the ability to see details of your guild's information.

Ports must be maintained to operate clusters of islands and forts surrounding it. Islands can't be claimed and offer unique or in demand resources or items.

Every archipelago will have 3 ports.

These seas will have larger clustered archipelagoes and larger open distances of sea between each set of archipelagoes, unlike in our SoTs where almost every region has islands not too far in all directions. Open oceans between archipelagoes will be extremely dangerous areas where megs, krakens, and potentially new creatures lye waiting in the depths, assured to attack.

These dangerous open oceans areas in-between the main archipelagoes are procedurally generated so you will never know what you will encounter, creature or land.

This game mode would be more focused on territory control, resource node control, blockades, longer voyages between archipelagoes with resources needed to build and maintain your guilds fort and ship, as well as discovering new lands and places outside the SoT that will be unique every session.

A game mode as described like this would be amazing and really bridge the game into a future proof concept that can grow the game.

I sincerely ask Rare to take these ideas into consideration - Captain Tibbz

  • Please feel free to give me your opinions and suggestions,

How do you think the guild system will work in a limited shared world?

Or how would you improve on the larger shared world ideas?

  • To me it doesn't need to be extravagant and it doesn't need to change the game world.

At a minimum they would need:

    • A screen that is the guild roster, which shows who is online

    • An ability to invite, rank and remove members

    • A global chat

I could see a guildhall that was a standalone location in game but not in the regular game world. Like the maiden voyage. But to be honest those are usually mostly empty.

If I could just log in, see who of my guildies is online and form crews that would be game changing enough, the grouping mechanisms we have fail.

  • @foambreaker global chat seems a bit much tbf. Maybe best left outside the game and in discord etc.

  • @tesiccl I meant global for the guild, not everyone in game.

I don't Discord, I think that is true for many.

  • @foambreaker yeah I know, still feel the same way, especially for Xbox players. Those poor controllers trying to type full sentences xD

  • @foambreaker I believe Rare is confidentially capable of more than the minimum!

Capable yes, budget, resources, competing features all also in the decision mix.

  • @foambreaker tell that to a ue5 upgrade. ;p

I hear the customized 4, IMHO that is the road of sorrow :)

  • Rare stated before that they wanted to add more ways for players to interact and communicate. Guilds is that, you will be able to have a club where you and your friends will be connected. I don’t think it’ll be game changing as guilds really won’t bring much to the table that discord doesn’t already do. Aside from commendations I don’t think guilds will offer much to the game unless Rare has a unique idea for how guilds will work.
