Three Idols Voyage

  • So, this is a suggestion for a new piece of content. It would be an "emergent" piece of content, similar to skull forts. Its designed to reinforce the 3 design pillars of SOT.

    Keep players moving
    Encourage cooperation
    Encourage skullduggery

The goal of the content is to collect 3 idols scattered across the map, and place them in an altar to unlock a vault. However, in order to advance the quests, players must reveal their location (and the fact that the idols are in play), encouraging other pirates to try and claim the prizes for themselves.

The content starts, at random, with a message in a bottle. The message looks like a standard Gold Hoarders quest, but instead of digging up a chest, you instead unearth an idol.

As long as any idol is held by a player, a reaper chest like light pillar appears. In addition, identical light emenates from the other two idol locations as well. (Even if buried) These lights are only visible to the world when a player is holding one of the idols. This means that to find the other idols, you have to reveal your location by holding an Idol.

Once all 3 idols are brought within a short distance of each other, they will shoot up a new light (different colored), and a matching light will also appear over the island with the vault.

Placing all three idols on the altar of the vault will unlock the vault.

The idea is that once one idol is found, it creates a rush to find the others. Likely the other 2 will fall into the hands of other pirates. This means fights or parlay. Of course one you find all 3 you risk someone being at the vault too.

    What do you guys think?

  • You lost me at ribbons.

I'll wait 3 months for the content to die and then try. Maybe.

Nobody said you had to go for it if you are too afraid.

  • I like it, but only if you can learn the vault location by getting an idol. So that people can't just wait for you to do all the dirty work and swoop in last second. If someone digs up an idol just to check the location of the vault, it will appear for everyone to see so if it was not you, you know someone else at least knows the location even if they didn't end up taking the idol.

So, the vault light won't show up until someone has all 3 idols. Then, both the ship and the vault are visible to all. Once the idols are placed, and the vault is opened, the light will go away.

So, it IS possible for an ambush, but your window is small, and of course, they are liable to see you as they approach the island with the glowy ribbons coming out of it. Head on a swivel shipmate, head on a swivel.
