Q.O.L. Idea. The ability to keep our inventory if we are disconnected from the session and rejoin the session

  • The title explains it all. I was playing the game and an hostile player came and attacked my ship. I disconnected from my session and had to rejoin. Unfortunately, I lost the last of my firebombs because my inventory was wiped out. This needs to be fixed!

I love the ability to rejoin my previous session after getting forced out of the game. Unfortunately sometimes when another player ship is near the servers become unstable and people can get booted from a session. I genuinely carry cursed cannonballs with me so my opponent can’t steal them. Unfortunately, if I get kicked from the server, I lose my inventory.

Rare, can you please look into this and find a solution?

  • I think its a technical issue rather than any sort of deliberate action on their end

Firebombs are so easy to come by, it hardly a issue losing them over disconnect. Always keep spares in barrels.

Really? Sounds like your connection stains from the extra player encounters.

I genuinely carry cursed cannonballs with me so my opponent can’t steal them.

Keep them in hidden cargo crates.

I partially agree with the topic of this problem. Only here's a good thing would be - if at a loss of connection, the crash of the game will be saved inventory. Especially this problem interferes in PvP, let's say you took the cursed cannonballs before the battle, pineapples, chainshots, and when you emerge from the water - there are cases that at this point you kicks out of the server. When a person kicks out for AFK, or he goes out and comes back through the invitation - I think that the inventory should not be saved.

  • With the amount of disconnects happening still, I would love if we could keep our supplies. It’s so bad lately that each person on my brig crew keep a spare storage crate next to our positions. We put our pockets into the crate when getting near ships in Adventure PVP. Once we start getting close we’ll grab cannons, fruit, and planks. Then once we start to engage, we’ll grab chains, throwables, cursed, and meat/pineapples. It has definitely helped multiple times now.
Nothing is worse than pulling up on a crew flying a grade 5 flag and a ton of stacked loot, to then have 2 people get dashboarded with an Anchor ball, Meg, 5 chains each, and 4 pineapples.

I saw that this was worked on in a recent update, but the problem still happens frequently. I’d say it’s a 50/50 chance 1 person dc’s upon entering cannon range with another ship containing 10+ pieces of loot, and probably 95% when entering another crews veil location on the last part of the voyage.

  • I don’t see what’d be so hard about making players inventories dump into their ship’s barrels when they leave or disconnect. I would seriously love that.

DRG drops a backpack full of your Dwarf’s goodies when you disconnect. Cut out the middleman and send the supplies straight to the barrels, and that’d be a godsend QOL feature.

One thing I've learned over years of working closely with IT people, is never assume something is easy. Even when you are least passingly familiar with coding, it can give you a general idea of how hard something "should" be, it doesn't mean that your assumption is right.

In many cases, a choice earlier in the code has created a situation that cannot be easily rectified without re-writing entire swaths of code, which is not always an easy proposition. If that code then touches (or is touched) by other code, you have a jenga tower of potential issues.

  • This is obviously something all can agree on is frustrating, I suspect they would always choose to focus their attention on server stability in order to reduce the instances of disconnects. I know at times when servers have been less stable I've actually stopped carrying curse balls when dc is so frequent

  • I like the status quo, as some of you know…, but I have to agree here. The tech is in place to let us rejoin our session so the game knows the difference between a disconnect and a ‘left game’ situation so this should extend to your inventory.

I carry empty pockets unless I’m getting into a fight for this reason cause disconnects happen, even full on crashes of the game (another story) so it’s unfair to lose all your good supplies by being ready for the fight. I’ve even found myself in the middle of a fight and it happens, all my good stuff? Gone.

Wholeheartedly agree this should be implemented.

That would be a bit of a problem if for example, you boarded an enemy ship and emptied out a bunch of curses and alt-f4'd. This would make those curses instantly available to the rest of your crew because they magically appear in your ship barrels.

If they are able to maintain player inventory during a disconnect, it should stay with the player and only reappear when they reconnect.

  • @d3adst1ck Something i did not even think about. Good call.

Yeah, whatever it ends up being, I just need my items to not be deleted when I disconnect lol.

I agree. My point is, if you are able to join your previous session then your inventory should be saved. If you choose to leave and return then you should loose your inventory. The same thing goes for people booted for AFK
