  • What difference would a new flag make if the ship has decided it’s going to steal your loot and sink you?

  • So you want a flag that basicly says "target me, because i am easy prey!" ?

  • @skli2076

Honestly, flags are virtually useless in game, as they are virtually un-readable unless you are already too close for comfort.

Sails? Yes. I can see Rare introducing "Chicken sails" similar t the middle mock-up in this link:

Sails can be seen from a distance, and these could be agreed upon for people who want to give up without a fight in hopes of not being sunk.

Yeah, render distance makes flags other than the baby reaper virtually useless.
And people already use "friendly flags" to attack people, so any cosmetic promising your intentions is meaningless.

  • @tybald But again, so what? Most sailors I find on the discord decide whether or not to sink you long before they see your sails. Sinking is usually the choice.

    I agree with @Tesiccl, what's the difference?

  • @lordqulex
There is none. It's all community dependent.

If someone wants to use the chicken sails to tell people thier intentions it's upon others to decide what to do with that information.

I have to laugh at this only because of the sheer volume of content creator videos online on the topic of "this is what you can tell about a crew that uses these cosmetics."

The contradict the heck out of each other because cosmetics mean nothing. I could fly the chicken sail as a red herring, or to mean I won't fight back. This is a pirate game, trust no one, and there is currently no cosmetic or mechanic in the game to convince me otherwise.

Until players have to actively play a certain way and maintain that style of play to keep a cosmetic unlocked (like the reputation system I've recommended in the past), cosmetics tell you absolutely nothing about the crew sailing that ship other than their choice to use that cosmetic.

You want a chicken sail? Sure, you can have it, I don't care, costs me nothing. But I'm telling you now it won't change the game play one bit.

  • @lordqulex
I don't disagree at all. My post was simply that the flag idea wouldn't work because of visibility. I offered the sail as th alternative, I didn't claim that the idea would work.

  • @skli2076 as others have stated, flags mean jack in this game. You are better of raising a reaper emissary and have everybody avoid you.
